We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The product is flexible and compact. It has a lot of features.""The reason we went with Cisco is that it comes at a very negligible cost as part of the BOQ. Compared to the competition's products, which are incredibly expensive, UCS Director is low-cost.""The solution is helpful for centralized management.""The main feature of this solution is the integration with all the Cisco solutions and other vendors.""The most valuable feature of this solution is the fabric sharing.""Scalability-wise, I rate the solution a ten out of ten.""I can manage multiple workloads whether it's on AWS, Azure, or on-premises. They can be managed by using the UCS Director.""This is a user-friendly solution that is very good and easy to use."

"We've saved hundreds of hours. Most of the time those hours would have to be after hours as well, which are more valuable to me as that's my personal time.""The notifications saying, "This is a corrective action," even though some of them can be automated, are always welcome to see. They summarize your entire infrastructure and how you can better utilize it. That is the biggest feature.""It has automated a lot of things. We have saved 30 to 35 percent in human resource time and cost, which is pretty substantial. We don't have a big workforce here, so we have to use all the automation we can get.""The automated memory balancing, where it looks at whether it's being used in the most efficient way and adds or takes away memory, is the best part. If it didn't do that, it would be something that I would have to do. We have too many machines for one person to do that. The automation helps me in that it is done in a really efficient way and a balanced way because of the policies. It really helps.""The most important feature to us is an objective measurement of VM headroom per cluster. In addition, the ability to check for the right-sizing of VMs.""It is a good holistic platform that is easy to use. It works pretty well.""Turbonomic helps us right-size virtual machines to utilize the available infrastructure components available and suggest where resources should exist. We also use the predictive tool to forecast what will happen when we add additional compute-demanding virtual machines or something to the environment. It shows us how that would impact existing resources. All of that frees up time that would otherwise be spent on manual calculation.""I like the analytics that help us optimize compatibility. Whereas Azure Advisor tells us what we have to do, Turbonomic has automation which actually does those things. That means we don't have to be present to get them done and simplifies our IT engineers' jobs."

Cons
"We cannot depend on this solution to manage all of the data center's infrastructure.""The product could allow more programmatic opportunities through better development of the API.""The areas where this product can be improved are the integrations and the UI. These features are not as friendly compared to VMware products.""The tool should be a lot more intuitive and make it easy for us to understand and migrate.""It is not easy to add or expand the product.""There could be an improvement with the integration with the newest solutions from other vendors' technologies.""Currently, Cisco UCS Director is unable to integrate with another product or with a server from another brand.""The product's pricing needs to improve."

More Cisco UCS Director Cons →

"I do not like Turbonomic's new licensing model. The previous model was pretty straightforward, whereas the new model incorporates what most of the vendors are doing now with cores and utilization. Our pricing under the new model will go up quite a bit. Before, it was pretty straightforward, easy to understand, and reasonable.""The management interface seems to be designed for high-resolution screens. Somebody with a smaller-resolution screen might not like the web interface. I run a 4K monitor on it, so everything fits on the screen. With a lower resolution like 1080, you need to scroll a lot. Everything is in smaller windows. It doesn't seem to be designed for smaller screens.""It can be more agnostic in terms of the solutions that it provides. It can include some other cost-saving methods for the public cloud and SaaS applications as well.""They could add a few more reports. They could also be a bit more granular. While they have reports, sometimes it is hard to figure out what you are looking for just by looking at the date.""After running this solution in production for a year, we may want a more granular approach to how we utilize the product because we are planning to use some of its metrics to feed into our financial system.""While the product is fairly intuitive and easy to use once you learn it, it can be quite daunting until you have undergone a bit of training.""Some features are only available via changes to the deployment YAML, and it would be better to have them in the UI.""I like the detail I get in the old user interface and will miss some of that in the new interface when we perform our planned upgrade soon."

  • "We felt the pricing was very fair for the product. It is in no way prohibitive for larger deployments, unlike other similar product on the market."
  • "Contact the Turbonomic sales team, explain your needs and what you're looking to monitor. They will get a pre-sales SE on the phone and together work up a very accurate quote."
  • "What I can advise is to trial the product, taking advantage of the Turbonomic pre-sales implemention support and kickstart training."
  • "Licensing is per socket, so load up on the cores rather than a lot of lower core CPUs."

  • "Price is a big one. VMTurbo was very competitively priced."
  • "If you're a super-small business, it may be a little bit pricey for you... But in large, enterprise companies where money is, maybe, less of an issue, Turbonomic is not that expensive. I can't imagine why any big company would not buy it, for what it does."
  • "It was an annual buy-in. You basically purchase it based on your host type stuff. The buy-in was about 20K, and the annual maintenance is about $3,000 a year."
