Pros
"Cisco Intersight has valuable features for workflow automation and inventory administration.""The tool helps to manage Cisco servers.""Provides an overall view using a single portal.""What I like most about Cisco Intersight is its manageability.""The product has good integration.""We enjoy having an inside view of all the data centers and all the EdgeX nodes within a single portal rather than going into the EdgeX connections one by one.""I like Intersight because of the integration with HashiCorp, Kubernetes, and each cloud because Intersight is the IO module.""Our organization uses Cisco Intersight since it helps manage our physical infrastructure."

"It's a monitoring agent. It's designed to do one thing. Its most valuable feature is its monitoring.""Though I downplayed the administrative NCC GUI, this is by far the strongest aspect of the Nagios XI product.""You want to monitor a specific metric that nobody else has? You can do it even with the most basic of scripting skills, and you can always share it with the vast community of Nagios Exchange.""It's great for monitoring IT services infrastructure.""The solution is pretty stable.""The features I've found the most useful are the plug-ins, the fact that you can connect almost everything to it. That's very useful.""Nagios allows us to configure any device so that we can send pager alerts when people don't have access to emails. It also allows us to schedule downtime and maintenance.""BPI: It allows defining peripherals to map business criticality for efficient monitoring, as required."

Cons
"An area for improvement in Cisco Intersight is automation. It needs more automation capabilities. Apart from enhanced automation, I want Cisco Intersight to integrate with third-party monitoring tools in its next release.""The product could be easy to use.""The solution needs some enhancement in order to build the cluster in two nodes.""It's a very complex solution.""Cisco Intersight needs some improvement in terms of stability. Hybrid cloud management and proper hyperscaler tie-up are other areas for improvement.""The product's setup should be easier.""When new features are added, the service becomes full of bugs.""In the future, the solution needs to plan on an extension to cover a broader range of objects since, at present, there are some Cisco devices within the range of Intersight UCS that it can't manage."

More Cisco Intersight Cons →

"We often need to develop custom plugins to get Nagios to work the way we want it to work because the features we need are not always available in Nagios.""The PNP4Nagios plugin not working easily with XI is an issue for me, because some open source monitoring plugins do not work out of the box. But in the end, you learn to live with it.""I would like to see more customization in the network map because it is a bit tricky to use it.""The interface could be more user-friendly.""The product uses the backend as Perl and could be modified to a more lightweight solution like what's being offered by other vendors.""The product could be optimized to improve the administrative user experience via the Nagios Core Configuration (NCC) GUI module.""There's room for improvement in the visibility, and in the ability to extract information. Stuff like this should be more simple.""The reporting structure could be more streamlined."

I have researched a quite a few network monitoring tools which can be used for various monitoring purposes of not only the servers, but the intermediate routers as well. There are majorly three types of these softwares. Ones which are completely open-source, you can do almost anything you want using these, but they require quite some expertise before you can use them. Then there are the ones that are not open source, the enterprise softwares and cost you some money, but on the other hand, they are extremely easy to set-up and learn. You can have them up and running in a matter of minutes. And then there are those which are completely cloud based. They can be free of cost or charge some money depending on the software. The good thing about these is that you don’t have to install any extra software, and it can be managed completely online but then again these have limited features and you cannot exploit them to the full extent as you can do with the open-source and to some extent the enterprise software, so I won’t suggest you to use these, because these are generally not the complete solutions and require other support software to achieve the same. Below I have listed the outstanding pros and cons of the various Network analyzers that you can look into Nagios Pros: Nagios offers an extensive set of collector plug-ins that allows users to gather performance and availability data from a broad range of operating systems, including  Windows and Netware Nagios… Read more →
