We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The most valuable features are that it is very simple to configure and to manage.""All of the features of Fortinet FortiGate are useful and the security protection is good.""Customers are more inclined towards FortiGate because of application control, web filtering, and anti-spam features. The support from the FortiGate team is good, and price-wise, it is affordable.""The performance is good.""It works very well. It has a lot of different functionalities. Its cost is also fine for our customers.""The product offers very good security.""Fortinet FortiGate is stable. It's used across all the countries, this is the way most multinationals run their system.""I have found Fortinet FortiGate to be scalable."

"Moving into the cloud without having to change a lot of our internal processes and retrain staff is one of the biggest benefits of this solution.""The most valuable feature of this solution is that you can start off with a simple firewall and expand it to UTM.""We have complete visibility of attacks originating from email including spear-phishing, spoofing, etc.""All the features that we subscribe to from CloudGuard NGTP are valuable. All the threat prevention and access control features give us the network security that we expect.""Check Point CloudGuard Network Security has a beautiful threat emulation different from the market.""The ease of administration with the cloud management extension and the cloud licensing model is valuable.""The most valuable feature is the monitoring. We can easily monitor what kind of stuff comes over to our network and we can then check the dashboard and work accordingly.""The feature most valuable to me is the NDTX blade that Check Point provides, and I like how the solution is not vulnerable."

"I like how you can configure the rules. There is the task for the rules and a task for the network configuration. It also provides SMD filtering, and it can be integrated with the active directory for the users, their mission, and the VPN configuration. We are here in Sudan, and Stormshield didn't work in Sudan for more than a decade. Stormshield is a very strong firewall and very easy to configure and maintain. I am just working with the firewall solution, and we don't have any other solutions like endpoint solutions or something like that.""The scalability of the solution is good.""It's an easy, straightforward management platform to use.""Easily manageable in a variety of environments.""I like that it works fine. Stormshield is a very good solution.""A very robust product.""Ease of use is the best feature of the product.""This solution is quick and easy to configure."

Cons
"The UTM filtering needs improvement.""The biggest "gotcha" is that if the client purchases what they call the UTM shared bundle, which has unified threat management on both, it's not as easy to manage if you have more than one firewall.""Sometimes you do need to know some CLI commands, so it's a bit harder for technicians or new people that don't know it.""One area for improvement is the performance on the bandwidth demands for smaller devices, as well as better web filtering.""In the balance between links feature normally you can just choose one option to balance. It would be better for the solution to have more than one option, preferably three.""There aren't really any negative aspects to discuss.""There are SD-WAN network monitoring, SD-WAN features, Industrial Databases, Internet of Things, Detection, etc., however, we do have not licenses for those features. We thought that if you bought a product, you should have all of the features it offers. Why should you need to make so many extra purchases to enable features? They should have one price for the entire offering.""Fortinet Fortigate could benefit by simplifying some of their processes."

More Fortinet FortiGate Cons →

"The challenge mainly revolves around the slower functionality of virtual IP switching in Azure Virtual Network compared to on-premise solutions. On-premise, switching between clusters is faster, taking only a few seconds, while in Azure, it can extend up to five minutes. The downtime is a concern for us.""They can improve their security features to the next advanced level so that their efficiency in catching the malware can become 100%, and there is no scope for any data loss or leakage from the system due to any issue.""There is room for improvement in the integration with PaaS services from the public cloud. It would be very helpful.""The deployment phase takes too much time.""It is a very expensive program and there are additional costs despite the standard licensing fees.""The initial deployment using the ARM template in Azure was straightforward, but migrating to Terraform added complexity, although we managed to make it work.""A threat categorization system can be added to give users the authority to define vulnerable attacks and classify areas that can threaten the workflow system.""There is room for improvement in addressing bugs and support issues."

"The SD card could be more secure.""Not all the fields are activated yet and we were informed that it will take at least one month.""Stormshield Network Security is quite expensive.""It could be better if it were more user-friendly. It's too complicated for us to use it. The price could be better as well.""This is not a next-generation firewall.""The biggest issue was their support department was not able to help us, then everything stops. This is a no-go area for me.""Improvement is needed in terms of the technical support of the manufacturer.""This solution has a big problem with web filtering and it needs to be improved."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Fortinet has one or two license types, and the VPN numbers are only limited by the hardware chassis make."
  • "These boxes are not that expensive compared to what they can do, their functionality, and the reporting you receive. Fortinet licensing is straightforward and less confusing compared to Cisco."
  • "Go for long term pricing negotiated at the time of purchase."
  • "Work through partners for the best pricing."
  • "The value is the capability of having multiple services with one unique license, not having the limitation per user licensing schema, like other vendors."
  • "Easy to understand licensing requirements."
  • "We saved a bundle by not needing all the past appliances from an NGFW."
  • "The cost is too high... They have to focus on more features with less cost for the customer. If you see the market, where it's going, there are a lot of players offering more features for less cost."
  • More Fortinet FortiGate Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "On average, it is normally on the lower end, being less expensive than Palo Alto or Cisco."
  • "It is more expensive than other solutions and would be more competetive in the market if it came down in price."
  • "We pay approximately ‎€150,000 ($166,000 USD) per year."
  • "Licensing is simply by the number of hosts that you are looking to protect within your environment. It makes it much easier to ensure that you are covering your environment."
  • "There is flexibility in the different licensing models that are offered."
  • "The pricing is pretty high, not just for your capital, for what you have to pay upfront, but for what you pay for your annual software renewals as well, compared to a lot of other vendors. Check Point is near the top, as far as how much it's going to cost you."
  • "Pricing of CloudGuard is pretty fair when you have a single account. It's comparable with other cloud providers. But for our use case, it got really pricey when we had to deploy multiple CloudGuards on multiple accounts in different regions, because you can't have CloudGuard protecting multiple regions. That's the big thing."
  • "The pricing and licensing have been good. We just had to do a license increase for our portion of it. We had that done within a couple of days. Given the fact that it's purely a software-based license, it ends up being even quicker than doing it for an on-prem firewall."

  • "For mid-sized companies, they sell their appliances for good prices."
  • "The SN200 series costs between $500 USD and $600 USD per year, whereas the SN700 series costs approximately $1,000 annually."
  • "The pricing could be better."
  • "The price of this solution and the price of support are ok."
  • "We bought a three-year license, and we renew it whenever it expires. The price could be better. It's always very expensive."
  • "I think the price is good."
  • "We chose Stormshield for its price, as the Azure firewall was too expensive."
