Easy to install and use with good support and
It's too early to say what improvements are needed, but I can only say we are happy with our decision to move to TMON. We haven't looked at the graphic tools so far, but they're on our to-do list for this year. We will see what happens after the move to Rocket Software. We haven't seen any missing information about our daily work and analysis of our production systems and applications. We're like it to be possible to move some more workload to our ZIIP processors to save us some billing for general workload.

Good stability but it is lacking the ability to see historical information
We can only see online information but there isn't any historical data to see something that happened a few hours previous. We don't have the ability to access that information. Previously, with MainView, we could look back at information from two days before and get information. We could easily get information from Plexus. Now, we don't have a single screen to check which has been annoying. Compared to MainView, Tivoli is rubbish. We are forced to use this solution. We couldn't stay with MainView. I would like for it to be easier to check the system performance. It should have the ability to see historical data. We can't see the percentages to see the percentages of the CPU utilized. We should be able to see how much was used by our part of the system. Now, we have to continuously recalculate that information.

Real-time monitoring has improved incident response but still needs built-in history and prediction
A long-term performance database in SYSVIEW Performance Intelligence would be beneficial to see historical performance for the long term and observe trends. Currently, a program must be created to gather data, and it should be part of the product with a built-in database inside SYSVIEW Performance Intelligence so that a custom program to gather data and keep it somewhere is not necessary. Prediction capability is not available in SYSVIEW Performance Intelligence—the kind of machine learning intelligence desired, such as the ability to predict patterns or seasonality or month-end behavior. However, if there is a chance to use WatchTower, this ability might be gained.

"We were using SDS from IBM; we switched because SYSVIEW is a better product."
"If you are looking for a good performance monitoring and system tool, this solution offers it in a very compact product suite."

"Customer Service: Excellent. No problem with asking How-To questions."
"Between the tech support and the person I was working with, they have been extraordinary."

Cons

"The actual product install is very simple. The web interface install is far from easy."
"Sometimes you think they should be a little bit faster to solve the issues, but it is also difficult sometimes to duplicate what the issue is."
"Perhaps the CPU usage: When SYSVIEW is accessed via VTAM, the CPU usage is higher than compared to when its accessed via TSO using exactly the same commands, e.g., Display active tasks."
"The documentation, like installation guides and stuff, put it all in one place."
"They are already working on improvements. One of them is the operational intelligence, which is a lot of stuff I am trying to learn and work on right now, which SYSVIEW reports to that all the system things which are going on."
"I would expect this product to be integrated with mainframe Linux system monitoring which is more popular in our mainframe solutions."
"I think they could improve the frontend action stage and alert thresholds, for a better and more-usable job action or REXX launch."
"It needs better documentation explaining the different possibilities of what you can do with the product."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Pricing is a little steep, but there are a lot of other functions that it brings together. It gives you one window to look through to get to a lot of different features. The more products you have from CA, the better pricing they have, the more you can get them doing more things for you."
