Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"ARIS is probably the most mature product in terms of modeling an enterprise architecture so that it has context.""Object oriented modeling allows us to trace what's going on with the specified object.""It is a well-featured, functional product.""Aris BPA has a lot of tools that are more professional than Bizagi.""It brings transparency and 360-degree views of end-to-end processes.""Features like SAP SolMan sync, Alfabet EA integration (another Software AG product).""There is a module designer, that one is very powerful and it creates very good reports.""The most valuable features of ARIS BPA are the centralized repository and the automatic rendering of diagrams."

"The main reason I choose Visio is that it is easy to use. The user interface is familiar and straightforward. Additionally, it offers a variety of templates, such as those for Cisco solutions, which make it easy to create diagrams for specific use cases. For example, we use a Cisco Meraki switch and we can find the exact template for it, then we can easily drop in the components and connect the cables to create the diagram.""A lot of built-in templates are really phenomenal. They cut down the time when you're trying to get something out. They reduce the complexity that technical folks like to put into things that have to be given to technical folks.""The ability to visualize a workflow is certainly an advantage over just tracking a process in something like Excel.""The most valuable feature is the set of diagramming tools.""The most valuable feature is that it is integrated with other tools in the Microsoft Office suite, as well as at the backend with products like SharePoint and Microsoft Teams.""This is a very straightforward product and I don't think that anything needs to be simplified.""The initial setup is pretty easy.""The most valuable feature of Visio is the credential management, endpoint manager, and active directory for Microsoft Azure for our hybrid infrastructure. Additionally, there are plenty of features available."

Cons
"There is not enough documentation provided for the tool's support or administration.""ARIS BPA’s usability could be improved.""Simulation is one area that is a bit complex.""The solution's processes are huge and it is not easy to get an overview of how things work. It needs to improve the interface. I would like to see the product include a better overview of processes and improve search.""I use it strictly for developing the business process model. I don't use it for the actual automation. I do that with Vtenext. I have standardized on Vtenext, and I don't use ARIS BPM anymore. The Vtenext UI is just as good, and it is much more tightly coupled to the underlying object model. I can get more done in one session with Vtenext rather than first going to ARIS BPM, then importing, and having to edit it for tight coupling.""ARIS BPA is not really a platform that offers you the opportunity to execute processes that you model.""The standard out-of-the-box solutions for modeling are not so good. You have to do some configuration to make it easier and more user-friendly.""I could use more icons and other graphical elements."

More ARIS BPA Cons →

"Visio's scalability could be improved. I had a license through my school and it would have been great to be able to collaborate with more people.""Lacks the ability to analyze the different relations between activities, positions and roles.""System architecture could be improved.""It thinks that it knows what you want to do, but it doesn't. It has a way of behaving that can be very frustrating from time to time. Either it moves things about because it thinks its placement should be at a certain place, or it's keeping track of things that you don't necessarily see, so it moves something elsewhere.""Inventory feature could be improved.""The big downside to Visio is that it's very difficult to push the design through to Power Automate, to become a workflow that you can use.""Transferring data was one of the issues that I expected Visio to have resolved. I use the older version.""The improvement I want to see in Visio is being able to edit it more quickly, particularly when pulling it out of another software and then editing it on that non-Visio software. Currently, the process affects the overall performance because it's not as quick as I want it to be."

    Reviews from Real Users

Visio has improved my workflow by making it easy to create charts, diagrams, and essential illustrations to use in my client reports and proposals. It has saved me a lot of time I would otherwise spend creating visuals for clients manually.” - Michael B., Principal Consultant at Lexington Consulting

“I use it for diagramming networks, racks, data centers, data flow applications, etc. It is a useful tool to map data flows, network objects, and computer science technology and to show to clients. It does what I need it to do. It's a tool I've used the longest, so I know it the best, and that's probably the claim to fame.” - Greg S., Director of Solution Architecture at Winslow Technology Group

“We use Visio for architecture modeling. We also use it to facilitate communication with other people. The feature I like most about Visio is that it acts as a facilitator of communication, as it displays information in a way that's easier to understand.” - Guy M., IT/Business Architect at a financial services firm
