Reliable performance maintained but requires ongoing management and support
Hadoop was used for years, but there were problems since the people who originally set it up left the firm. The group that owned it later didn't have the technical resources to properly maintain it. Although there was nothing wrong with Hadoop itself, issues arose without proper management and upgrades.

Can transform data per clients' needs and can easily distribute reports to end users
I would recommend looking at all of the solutions currently available and then decide. I would not immediately suggest going for SAP NetWeaver. Being able to transform the data according to my requirements is a crucial feature; the phasing layers are helpful to distinguish data with respect to a specific project; analytics and reporting are very feasible; and the distribution of reports to the end users is also very easy. However, connectors need to be simplified, and technical support needs to be improved. Thus, on a scale from one to ten, I would rate SAP NetWeaver Business Warehouse at eight.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Two valuable features are its scalability and parallel processing. There are jobs that cannot be done unless you have massively parallel processing."
"The most important feature is its ability to handle large volumes, as some of our customers have really large volumes, and it is capable of handling their data in terms of the core volume and daily incremental volume, so its processing power and speed are most valuable."
"Apache Hadoop is crucial in projects that save and retrieve data daily. Its valuable features are scalability and stability. It is easy to integrate with the existing infrastructure."
"What comes with the standard setup is what we mostly use, but Ambari is the most important."
"The most valuable features are the ability to process the machine data at a high speed, and to add structure to our data so that we can generate relevant analytics."
"The platform's quick data processing capabilities have been instrumental in supporting our AI-driven projects."
"It's good for storing historical data and handling analytics on a huge amount of data."
"This intermediate step not only mashes data in the form that we want through data Cube slicing, but also helps us save states as snapshots for multiple time frames."
"Data modeling is a valuable feature."
"The security and audit procedures are the most valuable features."
"It is a robust system."
"We are an airline and use the system for data modeling and data warehousing, and we implement it for time performance and feedback analysis."
"Prior to implementing SAP, I used some local ERPs but finally, I found this to be the most powerful platform."
"This is a very robust and efficient product, and it's very powerful, in particular when it comes to data management in the SAP system."
"With SAP BW, the organization can start to deploy a data warehouse and deliver data to business people."
"Transformation is a valuable feature of SAP NetWeaver. I can transform the data as per my needs or my client's needs. For example, flat tables can be transformed with respect to our requirements to combine multiple modules into one single table, and we can derive analytics."

Cons

"I rate it an eight out of 10. It's huge, complex, slow."
"The key shortcoming is its inability to handle queries when there is insufficient memory. This limitation can be bypassed by processing the data in chunks."
"It could be more user-friendly."
"It needs better user interface (UI) functionalities."
"I would like to see more direct integration of visualization applications."
"We're finding vulnerabilities in running it 24/7. We're experiencing some downtime that affects the data."
"The solution needs a better tutorial."
"I mentioned it definitely, and this is probably the only feature we can improve a little bit because the terminal and coding screen on Hadoop is a little outdated, and it looks like the old C++ bio screen. If the UI and UX can be improved slightly, I believe it will go a long way toward increasing adoption and effectiveness."
"The program is difficult to learn to use"
"The solution could be improved by simplifying the modeling and the design. We're faced with too many options and too many object types."
"Design and modeling could be simplified."
"People using SAP BW have to undergo some training to be able to use the product. Complexity can be reduced and could be made a bit more user-friendly."
"There are performance issues in terms of scalability and availability."
"The setup needs skilled resources in SAP BW. A lack of trained resources can create serious problems."
"It is difficult when your native language is not English. It is difficult for us to explain our issue and also difficult for the technical team to explain a resolution to us."
"The complexity of this data warehouse application is huge and makes it tough to manage and deploy it. In general, it requires a lot of know-how and time which makes it expensive to deliver fast answers."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The price could be better. Hortonworks no longer exists, and Cloudera killed the free version of Hadoop."
"The product is open-source, but some associated licensing fees depend on the subscription level."
"For any big enterprise the costs can be handled, and it is suitable for big enterprises because the scale of data is large. For medium and small enterprises, the tool is on the high-price side."
"We just use the free version."
"We don't directly pay for it. Our clients pay for it, and they usually don't complain about the price. So, it is probably acceptable."
"If my company can use the cloud version of Apache Hadoop, particularly the cloud storage feature, it would be easier and would cost less because an on-premises deployment has a higher cost during storage, for example, though I don't know exactly how much Apache Hadoop costs."
"It's reasonable, but there's room for improvement in cost-effectiveness."
"The price of Apache Hadoop could be less expensive."
"All SAP products are expensive."
"The licensing cost is high for SAP NetWeaver compared to that for other products."
"Pricing is based on the number of user IDs and tyhe user ID works across a suite of products."
