Reliable performance maintained but requires ongoing management and support
Hadoop was used for years, but there were problems since the people who originally set it up left the firm. The group that owned it later didn't have the technical resources to properly maintain it. Although there was nothing wrong with Hadoop itself, issues arose without proper management and upgrades.

Can transform data per clients' needs and can easily distribute reports to end users
I would recommend looking at all of the solutions currently available and then decide. I would not immediately suggest going for SAP NetWeaver. Being able to transform the data according to my requirements is a crucial feature; the phasing layers are helpful to distinguish data with respect to a specific project; analytics and reporting are very feasible; and the distribution of reports to the end users is also very easy. However, connectors need to be simplified, and technical support needs to be improved. Thus, on a scale from one to ten, I would rate SAP NetWeaver Business Warehouse at eight.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It's good for storing historical data and handling analytics on a huge amount of data."
"Hadoop is more for analytical processing, and while other databases claim to have a distributor, Hadoop is far better in that regard and is excellent compared to other options."
"The tool's stability is good."
"Hadoop is designed to be scalable, so I don't think that it has limitations in regards to scalability."
"Its flexibility in handling and storing large volumes of data is particularly beneficial, as is its resilience, which ensures data redundancy and fault tolerance."
"Most valuable features are HDFS and Kafka: Ingestion of huge volumes and variety of unstructured/semi-structured data is feasible, and it helps us to quickly onboard a new Big Data analytics prospect."
"Using this solution has allowed us to consolidate the data."
"The solution is easy to expand. We haven't seen any issues with it in that sense. We've added 10 servers, and we've added two nodes. We've been expanding since we started using it since we started out so small. Companies that need to scale shouldn't have a problem doing so."
"Data cleansed and harmonization. It provides us with proof of data, we can centralize all of the information, check it, and then provide the information to our users."
"We are an airline and use the system for data modeling and data warehousing, and we implement it for time performance and feedback analysis."
"Prior to implementing SAP, I used some local ERPs but finally, I found this to be the most powerful platform."
"With SAP BW, the organization can start to deploy a data warehouse and deliver data to business people."
"It is a robust system."
"It's an excellent over-all tool for managers to analyze their business."
"Transformation is a valuable feature of SAP NetWeaver. I can transform the data as per my needs or my client's needs. For example, flat tables can be transformed with respect to our requirements to combine multiple modules into one single table, and we can derive analytics."
"Queries based on the Data warehouse have enabled the Service department of the organization analyze data deeply and get insights into daily inflow and revenue as well as analyze data over time periods, various models, model years, by customer segment, etc."

Cons

"The load optimization capabilities of the product are an area of concern where improvements are required."
"The main thing is the lack of community support. If you want to implement a new API or create a new file system, you won't find easy support."
"I would like to see more direct integration of visualization applications."
"Once we had an issue with stability, due to a complete shutdown of a cluster."
"What could be improved in Apache Hadoop is its user-friendliness. It's not that user-friendly, but maybe it's because I'm new to it. Sometimes it feels so tough to use, but it could be because of two aspects: one is my incompetency, for example, I don't know about all the features of Apache Hadoop, or maybe it's because of the limitations of the platform. For example, my team is maintaining the business glossary in Apache Atlas, but if you want to change any settings at the GUI level, an advanced level of coding or programming needs to be done in the back end, so it's not user-friendly."
"Based on our needs, we would like to see a tool for data visualization and enhanced Ambari for management, plus a pre-built IoT hub/model. These would reduce our efforts and the time needed to prove to a customer that this will help them."
"The price could be better. I think we would use it more, but the company didn't want to pay for it. Hortonworks doesn't exist anymore, and Cloudera killed the free version of Hadoop."
"There is a lack of virtualization and presentation layers, so you can't take it and implement it like a radio solution."
"It is difficult when your native language is not English. It is difficult for us to explain our issue and also difficult for the technical team to explain a resolution to us."
"The solution could be improved by simplifying the modeling and the design. We're faced with too many options and too many object types."
"I think more integration with other applications would be perfect."
"The setup needs skilled resources in SAP BW. A lack of trained resources can create serious problems."
"The product could provide more features."
"The program is difficult to learn to use"
"People using SAP BW have to undergo some training to be able to use the product. Complexity can be reduced and could be made a bit more user-friendly."
"Connectors are complex, and it is difficult to understand or know which connector should be used. For instance, if I want to connect APIs, I will not be able to do it directly. I would have to go to the portal integration to get the data. Therefore, having simplified connectors will make things much easier."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"We just use the free version."
"It's reasonable, but there's room for improvement in cost-effectiveness."
"This is a low cost and powerful solution."
"If my company can use the cloud version of Apache Hadoop, particularly the cloud storage feature, it would be easier and would cost less because an on-premises deployment has a higher cost during storage, for example, though I don't know exactly how much Apache Hadoop costs."
"The product is open-source, but some associated licensing fees depend on the subscription level."
"The price could be better. Hortonworks no longer exists, and Cloudera killed the free version of Hadoop."
"We don't directly pay for it. Our clients pay for it, and they usually don't complain about the price. So, it is probably acceptable."
"The price of Apache Hadoop could be less expensive."
"The licensing cost is high for SAP NetWeaver compared to that for other products."
"Pricing is based on the number of user IDs and tyhe user ID works across a suite of products."
"All SAP products are expensive."
