Has good system-critical technical support but deployment needs improvement
Pros and Cons
  • "In terms of system-critical support, Acronis' technical support does really well. I would give them an eight out of ten for that."
  • "Because Acronis Backup is an on-premises solution, there is extra overhead. It's harder to manage, and there's no real remote access. You have to physically log in to the machine to manage it. The reporting feature works fine, and you will be able to send out reports. However, that is where it stops. The deployment could be improved and could be through a network chain. If we need to deploy two machines that are not connected to the internet but connected to two different networks, it would be great to have a machine with dual mix that has access to the backup server and to those machines. It would be like a relay that you can install on the machine with a two-mix, and that machine can then connect to your backup server and to the other machines. You should be able to see the other machines on that network and be able to deploy to it and push jobs to it."

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this solution for quite a while. We have two clients who use it at present.

How are customer service and support?

In terms of system-critical support, Acronis' technical support does really well. I would give them an eight out of ten for that. However, for mid-level issues, I'd give them a six out of ten. They take a long time to provide solutions.

How was the initial setup?

Setting up the backup server is quite a complex process. There is a bit of a learning curve. You have to make sure that all your services are up and that the actual machine is up and running. If the machine goes down, then you won't have any visibility into what is actually happening.

The installation of the product is not as hard as the configuration process. For instance, the licensing can be quite daunting because you still need a cloud license or access to a cloud portal. This is the old legacy portal where you have to upload the license file and then register it directly from there or download a registered file that you can upload onto the machine. This would then activate the machine. If you only want to do a local backup or backup to local storage, it will work fine. However, if you try to attach cloud storage to it, then another level of complexity will come into play.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Acronis Backup is cheaper. If you install it on a hypervisor, you only pay for a single license. It would be for the backup server, and everything else will be covered by it. In that sense, it becomes a much cheaper option.

However, if you have virtual machines, then it can be more expensive. Also, if you have a lot of physical machines the cost can be higher because each entity will need a separate license. There is a monthly license cost.

What other advice do I have?

If you don't want to run everything off of the cloud because you're concerned that Acronis Cloud might go down for days, Acronis Backup is a good option. It is an on-premises solution. However, it's a legacy version and is not really Acronis' mainstream product.

Overall, I would give Acronis Backup a rating of six out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Helps our organization with data recovery and backing up complete data centers
Pros and Cons
  • "There is advanced management where we can do passing, software inventory, and hardware inventory."
  • "The reporting can be improved."

What is our primary use case?

We primarily use this solution for data recovery and backing up complete data centers like image backup and data file servers. We deploy the solution on cloud and on-premises.

How has it helped my organization?

When a customer gets any fibre or ransom issues or when their data gets blocked, and we have taken that backup, we can restore the data for customers without losing it.

What is most valuable?

We usually have images, backup and ransom protection in the solution, and there is advanced management where we can do passing, software inventory, and hardware inventory. We can have a vulnerability assessment of the systems.

What needs improvement?

We want an application deployment process similar to that in Microsoft SPM, system center, where we can deploy OS. With Microsoft SPM, we can deploy specific applications through the console, a feature missing in Acronis Backup that should be included to improve the solution. Additionally, the reporting can be improved.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using the solution for approximately seven years and are a platinum partner for Acronis globally.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is stable, and we have not had any issues where we cannot restore customer data in over 20 years.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is scalable and can be deployed on over 1,000 servers.

How are customer service and support?

We have had a good experience with customer service and support. I rate them a nine out of ten.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is straightforward. It involves installing the agent, which gets connected to the cloud system. Then, the backup can begin within a few minutes.

What was our ROI?

The ROI depends on the customers and their investments. The backup solution and anything concerning ROI cannot decline. Still, whenever the customer has issues where the data gets corrupted, it becomes a valuable product because we can restore the data. Most industry people or IT heads do not invest much because they think there is good security and infrastructure, but you never know when you will be compromised because there are thousands of hackers targeting a company. Hence, the solution has ROI.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The licensing is higher than the market, and the other products sold are slightly higher than the others. When people need stable environments, they can keep the data looking at all the assets. More customers pay for it, and we have sold the product for the last seven years and started with a $100 commitment and currently have a $10,000 commitment a month.

The solution has a standard license and standard backups, and they have advanced backups for Oracle or ICP databases. They also have additional products like advanced management, advanced security and email security.

What other advice do I have?

I rate the solution as eight out of ten. Customers choose this solution because Acronis is the only vendor and OEM that provides management and cloud storage in their data centers. It also supports Google Cloud, Microsoft cloud and AWS Cloud and has hybrid support.

User-friendly and overall good performance
Pros and Cons
  • "I have not used other backup solutions to compare how well the features work but I have found Acronis Backup to be user-friendly, overall easy to use, and performance is good."
  • "We needed to have help from the vendor for implementation. The vendor used two personnel. We have system administrators and they do the server backups themself."

What is our primary use case?

We use Acronis Backup to create a backup policy and schedule to create backup images. We have an incremental backup for images and file-level backups. However, we never restore, test to restore, we have not done it yet.

We are trying to restore from the backups that the supplier help us to create, but we are having problems restoring. It is because the backups are created inside a virtual server and we want to restore it to a Hyper-V environment. We have attempted the process for approximately three weeks, and we have yet to find a solution to our problem.

We are only using Acronis Backup to create a backup plan, and the storage is within our premises. In one or two months, we will create a backup plan that will involve creating a backup from our premises to another location that is approximately 300 kilometers away. Then we will test how Acronis Backup will perform.

What is most valuable?

I have not used other backup solutions to compare how well the features work but I have found Acronis Backup to be user-friendly, overall easy to use, and performance is good.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Acronis Backup for approximately one year.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

We have some problems when we are backing up using Acronis Backup. However, I cannot be certain it is the solution or our servers. I cannot say exactly if Acronis Backup's performance is good or not. The solution is able to detect if there are errors and it gives us an alert warning. This is a good thing because it is able to catch the error before it causes problems before the backup is running.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We have 10 licenses for Acronis Backup, which allows ten users.

We are on a three-year contract that will end next year. We might renew with an additional license.

How are customer service and support?

The vendor that is helping us, their knowledge is limited. They need to further their knowledge to help us with the problems we are facing.

How was the initial setup?

We are trying to install the Acronis agent ourself but my colleague and I are experiencing errors.

What about the implementation team?

We needed to have help from the vendor for implementation. The vendor used two personnel. We have system administrators and they do the server backups themself.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

You can expand the license to add more users. If you want more users you have to purchase a license for the capacity. There is a fee for storage space on the cloud.

If the solution was less expensive it would be better.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We have not compared other tools.

What other advice do I have?

I have only heard good things about Acronis Backup from other companies and colleagues.

I rate Acronis Backup an eight of out ten.

Flexible, scalable, and uncomplicated installation
Pros and Cons
  • "For local backups, it has options to back up almost any storage. The back can be either a shared folder or anything you want, it's pretty flexible."
  • "We have sometimes issues with the child copies and other similar functions, but it's normal with any backup solution. We need to fix those issues first in order for us to be able to do the backup properly."

What is our primary use case?

I use Acronis Backup to make images of the systems, mostly for the servers, but some workstations as well. In some of the systems, we have enabled the disaster recovery option and the SQL Backup.

What is most valuable?

For local backups, it has options to back up almost any storage. The back can be either a shared folder or anything you want, it's pretty flexible.

What needs improvement?

We have sometimes issues with the child copies and other similar functions, but it's normal with any backup solution. We need to fix those issues first in order for us to be able to do the backup properly.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Acronis Backup for one and a half years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

We had some difficulties with the child copies but after we fixed them the solution was stable. It does a good job.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is scalable. However, any cloud storage is more flexible than an on-premise solution.

How are customer service and support?

The technical support needs some improvement. Although I haven't been requiring any support lately, I do not know how they are now. Initially, I had some issues with the response which was not very good, they were not quick. The support agent was requesting a lot of information that you had to send in order for them to check on the issue, instead of focusing on resolving the issue. It was a hassle.

How was the initial setup?

The installation is not difficult. There is a process of registration that you have to complete. When you install Acronis Backup, you have to do a registration of the endpoint to allow it to register on the portal. For that, you need to have the credentials and login, and sometimes it's a hassle. I understand there's no other way around the registration, it has to be done this way.

What about the implementation team?

After you install Acronis Backup, it has an option to update the agent automatically. After you are done with your first backup you can forget about the solution. It will prompt you if you need to do any maintenance or updates. There is not much maintenance.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The pricing is reasonable. However, it depends on the storage that you use. It would be great to have a package that we can use up to a certain size of the backup, this would allow us to know what the price is going to be up to that capacity.

There are a lot of options available. There are additional security options you can add, such as malware protection.

What other advice do I have?

It's a good idea to have a backup locally and in the cloud.

I rate Acronis Backup an eight out of ten.

Good price, world-class support, and supports on-premise, virtual, and cloud environments
Pros and Cons
  • "Acronis is a flexible solution. It can back up workstations, endpoints, and even your virtual environments and cloud-based environments. So, we can do the backup of the whole gamut of products."
  • "I would like to have more cybersecurity integration to properly round up the product and its offering. In terms of cybersecurity, if the offerings can be more versatile so that it is not just a backup solution, it would be great. Some addition to cybersecurity would really be helpful so that it becomes a kind of a suite of products. Backup and recovery form a part of the broader security strategy. Its integration with other cybersecurity solutions would provide proper visibility to not just your cybersecurity dashboard but also to all of your backups. You would have a pretty good view of the entire security landscape that you are managing."

What is our primary use case?

It is used for backup. In terms of deployment, it has got the capability of both. It can be on-premise and on the cloud.

What is most valuable?

Acronis is a flexible solution. It can back up workstations, endpoints, and even your virtual environments and cloud-based environments. So, we can do the backup of the whole gamut of products.

We can also do instantaneous recovery of individual items, files, documents, etc. It also has good pricing and support.

What needs improvement?

I would like to have more cybersecurity integration to properly round up the product and its offering. You would have a pretty good view of the entire security landscape that you are managing.

It should definitely be more stable, and it should support larger platforms. It can maybe support cross-cloud implementations.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this solution for at least five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is stable, but it could be more stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is scalable for medium to large environments but not for very large environments.

So far, we have provided this solution to about 15 to 25 customers.

How are customer service and technical support?

Technical support from Acronis is pretty good. It is world-class.

It has got very good and broad support.

How was the initial setup?

Its installation is not very difficult. It is pretty straightforward. With a little guidance from the manuals and other resources, a regular skilled engineer can easily perform the installation. Of course, it is not suitable for a layman.

We have two engineers supporting it. We also have one Sales and Account Management person for managing the plans.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Its price is quite friendly on the pocket. You need to pay the licensing cost upfront, and then the support charges are on an annual basis.

What other advice do I have?

I would definitely recommend Acronis to those who are starting out on the backup and recovery or want to migrate to and are looking for a fine-grain and stable solution. The good part is that you can still have the backup on the cloud. So, that would also take care of your offsite backup.

I don't have many comparison points. Based on whatever experience I've had on Acronis, I would rate it a nine out of 10.

Effective solution which allows us to back up data across any type of device using their AnyData Engine functionality
Pros and Cons
  • "One of the most valuable features of Acronis is its AnyData Engine which allows any device to connect to any other device for the purpose of data restoration."
  • "One improvement that could be made is adding the option to download files in a PST format when doing a 365 or Google Cloud to cloud backup."

What is our primary use case?

We sell Acronis to our clients globally in India, Germany, Canada, the United States, London, Singapore, Malaysia, and Dubai. We are a gold partner for Acronis worldwide and are one of the biggest resellers in India.

We do cloud, on-premises, and hybrid deployments. We use this solution to assist our clients with creating multiple backups of their data. The first backup is a live copy, the second is a copy kept on their local storage, and the third backup is stored by us in the cloud.

What is most valuable?

One of the most valuable features of Acronis is its AnyData Engine which allows any device to connect to any other device for the purpose of data restoration. They also include cyber security features within the cloud.

What needs improvement?

One improvement that could be made is adding the option to download files in a PST format when doing a 365 or Google Cloud to cloud backup. This is something that is currently being worked on by Acronis.

A second improvement would be to support SAP databases as integration with SAP. Although Acronis do support SAP databases and a backup of complete servers as an image-level backup or volume-level backup is possible, this requires the use of certain scripts.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using this solution for seven years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

In the past seven years of using Acronis, we have not had any instability issues or lost any data that we were unable to restore.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

This is definitely a scalable product. You could backup up to 200 terabytes. There is no limitation from an infrastructure perspective.

How are customer service and support?

Acronis offer good support which is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. As we are a gold partner, we are offered first preference.

How was the initial setup?

This is a simple product and the setup of the backup can be done in 30 minutes. An infrastructure does not need to be set up to complete the setup. The setup involves creating a console, installing agents and beginning the backup.

What other advice do I have?

This is a good product that is easy to use, simple, and has good security as most of the data centers are certified.

I would suggest that organizations that are considering using this product, sign up for a 30-day trial to do a complete evaluation.

While using this solution for my customers over the past seven years, data loss and other disasters have been prevented. Where ransom attacks have occurred, we were able to restore the data where Acronis was used to back up information.

I would rate this solution a nine out of ten.

System backup and security solution that is user friendly and provides alerts if certain files or backups are outstanding
Pros and Cons
  • "The Acronis panel is user friendly and tracking backups across a number of different devices is great. Acronis provides prompts and reminders to users if certain files are not backed up."
  • "There are a lot of products out there that are a little bit stronger than Acronis where AV is concerned."

What is our primary use case?

We use this solution to back up our emails. It is compatible with Office and Microsoft 365. There are two models and it can be used per workload or per workstation, which gives you roughly 50 gigs of backup per work station.

You can basically decide what you want to back up, at what time and whether you want it done on desktops or laptops. Once you make this decision, you then pay per gig.

We have distributors that we buy Acronis through. For cloud backup, hybrid and on-prem, this is a good solution.

What is most valuable?

The Acronis panel is user friendly and tracking backups across a number of different devices is great. Acronis provides prompts and reminders to users if certain files are not backed up.

What needs improvement?

There are a lot of products out there that are a little bit stronger than Acronis where AV is concerned.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Your backups are always limited to the amounts of bandwidth that you've got available. The bigger the bandwidth you've got, the smoother the solution works. You get to set the frequency and the times to run your backup. You can run your backups either daily, weekly, monthly or on an adhoc basis.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

This solution is exceptionally scalable. If you're a customer and you're using 800 gigs at the moment, we will allocate a slot for one terabyte for you. We'll give you a 20% cushion and you'll pay only for what you use.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is straightforward and can be completed in 30 minutes. Some of the smaller businesses we work with, want us to run this for them while other manage this process themselves.

This is a plug and play solution so you don't need a lot of people for maintenance once you have set up the permissions. When maintenance or attention is needed, you will receive alerts.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We pay approximately eight Euro cents a gig. We are platinum partners so we get some very good rates and we pass that on. The eight cents includes our profit. There are no other additional costs, unless you want to include DR.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We briefly considered Veeam, Metallic IO and Redstor. As a backup solution, Acronis is great.

What other advice do I have?

If you are the IT manager, you can do a lot with this solution without needing to complete heavy maintenance or heavy labor intensive programs.

I would rate this solution a ten out of ten.

Easy to use, easy implementation, and high return on investment
Pros and Cons
  • "Acronis Backup is easy to use."
  • "When you are using enterprise hardware and software that increases over time, there need to be better and more management features. For pure backup software, it is fine, but when it comes to managing a large infrastructure it is lacking."

What is our primary use case?

We were using Acronis Backup for Windows Servers, such as Windows 2003 and 2008 operating systems. We had old Windows systems and we were using Acronis Backup.

What is most valuable?

Acronis Backup is easy to use.

What needs improvement?

When you are using enterprise hardware and software that increases over time, there need to be better and more management features. For pure backup software, it is fine, but when it comes to managing a large infrastructure it is lacking.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Acronis Backup for approximately seven years.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Acronis Backup is not scalable.

We have 10 people in my organization that use the solution.

We are a large company, we are the Steel Authority of India Limited. We span across all of India. We are the biggest steel manufacturers in the country, we have more than 60,000, people working in the company. Generally, I am using Veeam, but there may be other parts of the organization still using Acronis Backup.

How are customer service and support?

The technical support of Acronis Backup is not very responsive in support. We needed it a few times, but it was not very readily available.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We were using Windows backup before Acronis Backup. I use currently using Veeeam backup.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is very simple. The full deployment process took half an hour.

What about the implementation team?

We did the implementation ourselves. We have a team of ten that can do the maintenance of the solution.

What was our ROI?

The return on investment was great because it saved us many times, it saved our lives many times. We lost a machine and we could recover it using Acronis Backup. The return of investment measurement is great.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We were on a perpetual license for Acronis Backup.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I evaluated Cohesity.

What other advice do I have?

We started using this solution because it was recommended by a German company called Siemens.

We no longer use Acronis Backup but we wanted to at that time continue with it. However, Acronis did not want to listen to us to enable us more possibilities for us to consider them. Their response was very cold. We looked into other companies, such as Veeam and Cohesity and we went with Veeam.

I rate Acronis Backup an eight out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
