Veritas NetBackup vs Acronis Backup - do you have a technical comparison?

Hi,

I'm preparing a technical comparison between Veritas NetBackup BMR and Acronis Backup for our Leadership team. Specifically, I need an in-detail & point-wise description of the Acronis Backup solution.

My setup: ~150 systems.

Thank you in advance!

Hi Shashi,

NetBackup is an enterprise tool and Acronis is for private/small companies (in my opinion).

If you have a plan for ~150 servers then Acronis is a NO WAY for you (only if you have the time to prepare snapshots for each individual system one by one).

Technically NetBackup is a more reliable and comprehensive product as compare to Acronis.

NetBackup has integration with all major business products like MS SQL Server, MS Exchange Server, IBM, SAP, HANNA, Share point and Active Directory.

You can backup and restore full VM in NetBackup as well as BMR too for P2V.

Acronis has limited features in comparison with Netbackup.

Netbackup is a vast product. If you need any assistance you may drop a few lines and I will help you out.

What types of data sets will you be backing up? Also how much data total are we talking about?  Will you be backing up traditional (full/Incremental)?

Ok, I'm seeing that no one knows/mentioned what Acronis Cyber Protect is.

Acronis is not an image tool anymore but it's a complete data security product. It has anti-malware, ransomware protection, immutable storage option, cross hypervisor backup and disaster function, P2V, V2P V2V Universal restore capabilities and very good coverage of enterprise application support.

Both are good backup tools.

I have a one-to-one comparison. But, if you want to use BMR I suggest you go with Acronis cyber Backup because Acronis is the best solution provider for image backup and recovery for different kinds of environments.

Acronis has good support for different kinds of storage and inline data deduplication. Built-in network management for lower bandwidth from clients to the server. Support any-to-any migration and a user-friendly web console.

Always talk to your solution provider about fulfilling your all requirements. Possibly, conduct PoC before your purchase, check partner support services and the roadmap of the product.

Always choose the solution which will serve your requirements for the next 5 years (or more) as per your hardware lifecycle.

if you need any help on a solution please DM me.

I think it's not possible to compare "enterprise backup tools" (NetBackup) with simple "imaging tools" :)

How does Acronis Backup compare with Veeam Backup & Replication? Which is better and why?

Acronis Backup is a versatile backup-as-a-service solution for service providers. It allows you to protect workloads on-premises and in the cloud and provide backup to any storage. The deployment is flexible and good for hybrid environments. We evaluated Acronis Cyber Backup before ultimately choosing Veeam Backup and Replication. What did we like about Acronis? It offers a single pane of glass for managing tenants. The backup recovery is fast and reliable. It also supports onsite and offsite backup destinations. The deduplication and incremental backups are fast and powerful. The user interface is easy to use and intuitive. Support is also responsive and good in several languages, with email and live chat support. The integration with third-party products doesn’t work so well and it can be inconsistent on endpoints. There are also frequent changes in licensing models. Veeam Backup and Replication provides security and availability across multiple environments and platforms. It provides continuous data protection and fast and reliable image-based backups. You can protect cloud, on-premises, virtual and Kubernetes workloads. They deliver unlimited capacity for long-term data and object storage. The replication capabilities are very powerful and you can recover instantly for Microsoft SQL and Oracle at file-level recovery. Neither scheduled nor synthetic full backups require regular attention. You can carry out hourly backups, which run pretty fast. Veeam provides immutable storage, too. The data deduplication saves costs by reducing the amount of backup storage required. It can even back up the VMware server VMs. Conclusions Acronis is suited for companies that want to back up a few devices. It can be expensive for small businesses as the license for machines can be pricey. Overall, Veeam is a more complete solution that covers a wide array of environments, even on-premises hardware.

Hi Abdul Ahad (@A. Ahad Alam), Well, thanks for the valued query to the community. I will try my best to recommend Veritas NetBackup vs Dell EMC NetWorker but first can you please advise which backup software you are currently using for your backups? If you are not using any of them then the first thing to work on will be the sizing of your existing & forecasted Front-End and Back-End data with the daily growth rate and your organization's backup policies (including backup cycles, retention policies, then archival of your data later) you are going to plan and execute for the next 3 to 10 years might be more... Because the vital and core count for any available good backup software is what features it can provide and how many of them will be of your use which will be addressing your planned and existing backup policies. Well, if this information is already in place and you just need a 'Vs' info then both are good whichever suits and addresses your backup requirements and policies the most. Dell EMC NetWorker provides unification of your backups with a range of protection with rapid recovery of your backups across cloud, physical and virtualized environments and Veritas NetBackup is also doing the same from Edge to the Core to the Cloud. Hence, the decision is dependent upon the actual requirement and your backup policies totally! Sufyan Ali Khan +923018224536
