We are using ScienceLogic primarily for monitoring our infrastructure, a few specific services like Citrix, and a few websites and their publication. We have private cloud deployments as well as on-premises deployments.

It is stable and very easy to configure
Pros and Cons
- "It is very easy to configure because we are using an agent-less version. You can very quickly implement a collector for monitoring device servers."
- "It doesn't have the complete application-level topology. It could have service topology and business service monitoring. I would like to see how business service monitoring will function with agent-based installation, and how flexible and business-oriented it is for service modeling and service infrastructure. I have a lot of experience in using business service monitoring, service topology, and service hierarchy functionalities in similar products from BMC and Micro Focus (OpenView), and I want to see how these functionalities will look like in ScienceLogic."

A combined tool of ITSM and EMS. Company needs better support including documentation and chat.
Pros and Cons

Director, Cloud & Data Center Technology with 1,001-5,000 employees
The customer service is unparalleled. We always get the help we need, when we need it.
Pros and Cons
- "The flexibility to support most technologies. The way ScienceLogic gathers data from multiple sources is vital to our customers. As we work with new customers (often with different technology requirements), ScienceLogic is flexible enough to support our clients’ varying network needs."
- "One important area we feel could be improved is the UI. It takes a lot of clicks to do very simple tasks."
What is most valuable?
I would like to spotlight four key areas where ScienceLogic excels:
- The flexibility to support most technologies. The way ScienceLogic gathers data from multiple sources is vital to our customers. As we work with new customers (often with different technology requirements), ScienceLogic is flexible enough to support our clients’ varying network needs.
- The opportunity to achieve high value for our services. We can provide monitoring services at different pricing levels to best fit our business model while delivering value to our customers.
- They provide the scalability to grow with us. In just a few years, we have grown from five datacenters to over 40 datacenters. ScienceLogic has continuously grown with us.
- The availability to provide domain expertise. ScienceLogic provided onsite professional service assistance for a key project to meet our aggressive project timelines.
How has it helped my organization?
The dashboards in ScienceLogic provide huge value. We can show customers exactly what we are monitoring and accurately display metrics, like uptime. We want to deliver transparency to our clients, so they can see how things are performing. ScienceLogic is our way to do that. Internally, ScienceLogic improved our billing operations.
We also attend the training and networking events ScienceLogic offers. Those meetings are essential to evolving our business.
What needs improvement?
One important area we feel could be improved is the UI. It takes a lot of clicks to do very simple tasks. However, I know this is an area where they are investing and the first version of the new UI/UX is due out soon. I am confident it will be greatly improved with the next release.
For how long have I used the solution?
We have been using ScienceLogic since 2008.
What was my experience with deployment of the solution?
In 2012, we had to deploy a new ScienceLogic stack and migrate data from the old stack to the new one. It was a slow process, but ScienceLogic impressed us with their commitment to resolve issues fast. They sent a professional engineer to our facility to help escalate problems and fix everything as quick as possible. We did not feel we had to resolve these issues on our own, so partnership was key.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
We are confident in the stability of the product. Like any technology platforms. we've had our share of issues over the past nine years. However, ScienceLogic always works with us to ensure that our services are not impacted.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
ScienceLogic continues to grow with us. There is a feedback loop between our companies which allows both of us to improve. They learn from issues we experience, and we believe they build that into new product improvements. They listen to customers and make meaningful updates based on their needs.
How are customer service and technical support?
Customer Service:
This is an area where a small company like ScienceLogic continues to impress us. Their customer service is unparalleled. We always get the help we need, when we need it. ScienceLogic goes above and beyond expectations giving you that personalized support. Their staff recognize what’s happening in the market and understand our goals.
We have partnered with them for more than eight years because they provide superior support. When we call, they are dedicated to help. If we have a larger issue, ScienceLogic sends their experts onsite to help us. It’s a huge relief to know that ScienceLogic is ready and willing to hear our problems and offer the right solution.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We stopped using a legacy billing tool in favor of using ScienceLogic’s platform. We also had many major third party and homegrown solutions. In 2016, we consolidated all the solutions into a ScienceLogic's EM7 solution.
How was the initial setup?
The overall setup was straightforward and designed with ease in mind.
What about the implementation team?
We do rely on ScienceLogic to handle our implementation needs, as required. They do an effective and efficient job. There are some complexities to implementation, but overall it is pretty painless.
What was our ROI?
We absolutely receive a high return on our investment.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Make sure you understand your business and do a cost modeling for three to five years. ScienceLogic has a variety of options to consume the product, but only you can tell them what your real needs are for short and long-term.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
When we first looked them, we compared EM7, Nagios, SolarWinds, and a handful of homegrown solutions.
What other advice do I have?
You must recognize the functional structure of your organization and make sure everyone understands the platform. Often times, companies find themselves faced with a "tool" sprawl. Monitoring and service assurance requires a disciplined approach and asking critical questions upfront helps solve many issues later.

What is most valuable?
Power packs.
How has it helped my organization?
With all the new devices being deployed, it is great to see the vender supporting them as they come out.

Tool for fault and performance monitoring
Pros and Cons
- "One of the valuable features is rapid dashboards."
- "I would like to see out-of-the-box standard dashboards for common services."
What is most valuable?
One of the valuable features is rapid dashboards.
How has it helped my organization?
Overall, it is a very solid tool for Fault and Performance Monitoring. We use the tool to provide views into their environment.
Our engineers use the tool when engaged on a Systems and Network Architecture project to determine baselines and to monitor changes we make.
Our NOC also uses the tool to provide monitoring services to our client.
What needs improvement?
I would like to see out-of-the-box standard dashboards for common services.
For how long have I used the solution?
We have used this solution for three years.
What was my experience with deployment of the solution?
The deployment was smooth. However, we deployed on our internal systems, then expanded to include external and managed systems.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
We have had excellent reliability with the product. There are sometimes issues when changes and migrations are done to monitored elements, but we have seen that with every solution that I have deployed.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We have not had any scalability issues. However, we only have a few thousand elements. This is something I will continue to watch as it grows.
How are customer service and technical support?
Customer Service:
Customer Service is fantastic. Their Customer Service has been the best I have encountered. They are willing to work through issues with their product or simply issues that can be tangential to the product itself.
Technical Support:Overall, technical support has been excellent. When I have run into issues that move past their Tier-2 support, I had the opportunity to work with their directors and their development staff.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We switched because of cost and the overall level of effort it was taking to keep up with managing the solution. This was not a full time job, but simply a part time job for one person. This solution has allowed us to provide support with a fraction of the resources, instead of dedicating a full-time resource.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup was rather simple. We used Professional Services as well as Technical training resources from ScienceLogic.
What about the implementation team?
The deployment was done remotely by a single individual in few days. Overall, he was very competent.
What was our ROI?
We have had a very solid ROI since we use the product as part of our Managed Services offering. It has allowed us to keep the prices both competitive and profitable.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Decide what you want to monitor and only monitor those items. Absorb other elements as you grow.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We migrated from Nimsoft to ScienceLogic, but I have worked with a large number of Enterprise Monitoring platforms in my career. We considered Nagios, SolarWinds, and ManageEngine before deciding on this solution.
What other advice do I have?
I am excited to see the new version, Version 8. But the product has continued to grow and whenever I have had issues, ScienceLogic has stepped up as company. I feel very comfortable recommending them as a solution.

IT Coordinator at a transportation company with 51-200 employees
The whole platform overall is very powerful.
Pros and Cons
- "Best feature of all is detailed monitoring of services, processes, ports and SSL certificates and or web content."
What is most valuable?
The whole platform overall is very powerful. Best feature of all is detailed monitoring of services, processes, ports and SSL certificates and or web content. SSL certificate monitoring function is really great, one does not need to use third party software or worst ... spreadsheet.
How has it helped my organization?
The EM7 platform allows one to allocate resources and point them in the right direction when needed. We can monitor 6000k devices with only handful of people 24/7.
What needs improvement?
Ticketing improved dramatically from when I started working with the EM7 platform. Guys at ScienceLogic are always open to new suggestions and their voting system allows them to develop tools that are truly needed.
For how long have I used the solution?
6 Years
What was my experience with deployment of the solution?
Not at all. Deployment was pretty straight forward and ScienceLogic engineers were able to deploy EM7 quickly and efficiently. We are about to migrate to Virtualized system which I'm sure would be even easier.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
No, even with 6000 devices we did not encounter any stability issues. Our system worked perfectly from day one.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Scalability is pretty easy. You have few different option of hardware (Dell) that you can use to expand your system by adding more collectors or expand your database.
How are customer service and technical support?
Customer Service:
Customer service is amazing, ScienceLogic is growing quickly however it still has a small company feel what allows their engineers to know your system well from the ground up. They are always flexible with scheduling and allow you to choose best dates that fit your calendar.
Technical Support:Technical Support is always there. If its small or big question I never had to wait in a queue. Usually it take them 2-3 rings to pick up the phone. Once a call is initiated they log in to your system within 5 minutes and start resolving issues and answering questions where needed.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
No, ScienceLogic is the first solution that we used since there is no one out there that provides monitoring and ticketing in the same system.
How was the initial setup?
Initial setup is very straightforward. Appliances with prebuild system are being shipped to you (either All in one for smaller customers or collector, database and API for anyone with few thousand devices.) System is pretty much plug and play and required only few hours of setup.
What about the implementation team?
We have implemented our system via in house team. Their experience is great and they always have answers and solutions at their fingertips.
What was our ROI?
Unfortunately I do not have information on this subject since ROI is not being calculated by me. If I had to guess ROI would be around 150%
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Calculate your devices and decide how many SNMP and PING devices you needed. Pricing between the two is quiet large therefore you can save some money if you don't require to collect all info on each device.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
No other options were on the market at the time when ScienceLogic came out with their Em7 platform. Their product is specializing not only in monitoring but also in Ticketing.
What other advice do I have?
ScienceLogic is a great company! I worked with them for the past 6years and their growth shows that they are the leader in monitoring segment for small to medium companies. Keep up good work.

Includes the ability to write custom dynamic applications, and custom dashboards.
What is most valuable?
The ability to write custom dynamic applications, and the ability to create custom dashboards to display multiple device graphs in one place.
How has it helped my organization?
We have been using EM7 as our monitoring solution since our product was launched 7 years ago. EM7 has allowed us to respond quickly to service outages, and has been a great help in identifying the cause of these outages.
What needs improvement?
The upgrade process occasionally proves to be exciting. ScienceLogic Support is always able to resolve the exciting issues promptly, but I'd rather seem them not appear in the first place.
For how long have I used the solution?
My company: 7 years
Me personally: 3 years
What was my experience with deployment of the solution?
No. Initial deployment is always quick and easy. I'be deployed more than a dozen appliances and not encountered any issues.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Not with EM7, just with my hardware. Even in those instances, ScienceLogic support has been a great help in getting things running again.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The only scalability issues I've encountered have been due to bugs in my hardware. When I have followed heir published hardware recommendations and used reliable hardware I have seen no scalability issues.
How are customer service and technical support?
Customer Service:
Excellent. I've only called to address licensing issues, and they have always been able to resolve my issues quickly.
Technical Support:The best I've ever experienced. No matter whether my issue has been due to system configuration, operator inexperience, or hardware problems, they have always been able to guide me to a prompt resolution.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I've used Nagios a number of times, and have tried Zabbix and a couple others. All of the other solutions make generating graphs and configuring alerts a painful process. With EM7 it's painless.
How was the initial setup?
Very simple. With the auto-discovery capability, I didn't have to created complicated configuration files like with Nagios.
What about the implementation team?
In-house. The solution was initially implemented by my boss, but I took over 3 years ago. Since then I have thoroughly enjoyed supporting EM7.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The product is a bit expensive, but impressive capability and expandability comes at a price. My management team has never hesitated to approve my requests for new licenses.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
My boss tells me that they looked at Nagios and Zabbix, and discovered that they didn't offer nearly the capabilities offered by EM7. The fact that our primary provider of satellite communications services also uses EM7 was an additional big help in making the choice.
What other advice do I have?
I highly recommend on-site training from ScienceLogic's staff. They convey a great deal of information very quickly and painlessly.

Service Manager - Remote Monitoring and Management Center at a tech services company with 1,001-5,000 employees
The customizable dashboard is my favorite feature. Overall monitoring capabilities could be improved.
What is most valuable?
The customizable dashboard is my favorite feature. I have everything that matters to me in my role available immediately at sign on. I also love that we can customize a customers dashboard view, from analyst to C-level executive we can give the customer exactly what they want/need to see at sign on.
How has it helped my organization?
We have been able to utilize categories and grouping for both customers and devices to streamline our processes for both monitoring and management of those devices.
What needs improvement?
Overall monitoring capabilities could be improved. We run into instances where we are not able to configure monitoring for specific things and requires quite a bit of manual labor to accomplish these tasks.
For how long have I used the solution?
We have used this solution for about 3 years.
What was my experience with deployment of the solution?
I was not a part of the original deployment team so I am unsure. I have been involved in some customer deployments and things seem to run quite smoothly.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The main stability issues we encounter are during upgrades which tend to take longer to apply than scheduled. The stability tends to be fantastic.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We have found this solution to be quite scalable and at this price point it seems to be intended for enterprise level customers.
How are customer service and technical support?
Customer Service:
The customer service at ScienceLogic is excellent. We have multiple routes we can use as escalation when needed but we really have not had the need to at this point.
Technical Support:The technical support provided by ScienceLogic is above average. The built in programming is excellent. Sometimes it is difficult to apply to monitoring but when it works it is great.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I was not with the company I am now prior to us utilizing ScienceLogic and EM7 as a monitoring tool.
How was the initial setup?
Again, I was not part of the initial setup I joined my company after things were originally launched.
What about the implementation team?
Again, I was not part of the initial setup I joined my company after things were originally launched.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
This tends to be an expensive solution that is geared toward enterprise level customers. You will need to have an intermediate monitoring option as well.
What other advice do I have?
There are some very nice features built into this solution but it does seem to serve enterprise level customers more than any others.

Sr. IT infrastructure specialist at a tech company with 10,001+ employees
The most impressive feature is the event management capabilities.
What is most valuable?
There are a large number of very valuable features within ScienceLogic, the most impressive feature is the event management capabilities. With the ability to create custom events administrators can dial in monitoring and really customize events for specific devices or applications that help ensure you are on top of issues and stabilizing your environment.
How has it helped my organization?
ScienceLogic has helped our organization in numerous ways, these include capacity planning in our network, virtual environments and applications. Along with the ability to view the health of applications which have instances located around the globe. ScienceLogic allows us to test connectivity between locations and structure the product to fit our needs.
What needs improvement?
In many different areas of the product there are terminology inconsistencies, these inconsistencies are within the product and also within the IT world, these are definite area’s that need improvement; however with a little use they become second nature.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been utilizing this product for about two years, monitoring over 600,000 interfaces within our infrastructure and we have created over 250 IT services which reflect application or groups of devices which have relations.
What was my experience with deployment of the solution?
We encountered quite a few issues with our deployment, my team and I knew nothing about ScienceLogic and we were also a brand new group to our company so we knew nothing about the environment we were being asked to monitor. With all of that ScienceLogic staff were exceptional walking us through all of our questions and concerns and failures when setting up our Instance.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
We have had a few issues with Stability, I think the product itself it very stable and the power it provides administrators can cause instability. Once of the features we find very beneficial is IT services, which are extremely powerful, however if you set them up incorrectly you can overwhelm the database.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Yes, however our issues were due to not understanding the size of our environment and the group that originally sized the product was providing bad information. As we have increased the amount of devices and the range of those devices we have run in to scaling issues which will most likely cause us to stand up a brand new instance of ScienceLogic to meet our needs. This is not a solution we are excited about but it is a solution none the less
How are customer service and technical support?
Customer Service:
The level of customer service we have received from all of the ScienceLogic team has been exceptional. We continue to stay in contact with our Sales executive, and when we have issues with the product Tech support follows up regularly after closing out tickets to ensure our issues have not reoccurred and our customer advocate representative know what is going on with our system when we call them, they know our history and our roadmap.
Technical Support:
ScienceLogic Technical Support has always provided a solution and in one instance a Tech support person stayed on a support call with me and my team over the entire weekend to help us sort out issues that we ourselves created. Technical support knows the product very well and they always go the extra mile to ensure success.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Previously multiple event management systems were in use; however due to 4 different monitoring tools being utilized we were unable to integrate the entire set into one screen. ScienceLogic had the ability to perform the work of many of these tools and was able to integrate with the tools it could not replace.
How was the initial setup?
Our deployment was straightforward, however we had gone through ScienceLogic’s professional training prior to deployment allowing my team to understand the product prior to deployment. I believe it would have seemed much more complex without the training that we had been given.
What about the implementation team?
We utilized ScienceLogic deployment team, they walked us through what we needed setup on our network to allow the product to function and also walked us through the setup. of each server we deployed. There were complex portions and easier portions, the Professional Services tech was easily able to perform all steps of the installation.
What was our ROI?
I am unable to provide numbers; however after deploying ScienceLogic in our infrastructure and configured IT services around our critical applications we have experienced a considerable drop in major incidents which impact our customers. The reduction improves our company’s image and also allows for more time to be spent enabling resiliency and less time dealing with outages.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
I am not able to comment on licensing, we purchase licensees outright and I am unfamiliar with the other subscription models.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
I was not part of the team which evaluated tools to monitor.
What other advice do I have?
IT services are an extremely powerful tool that is underutilized and very little time is spent in any of your training classes going over IT services. We have been able to collect data and report on data that no other tool I have found can report on without a massive amount of work. I also believe your staff needs to be trained to a higher degree on IT services. Monitoring and event management is simple, you provide customers the ability to relate the data and aggregate the data collected. During symposiums customers don’t seem to know the power they have in front of them if they learn the IT services. IF I were in charge of ScienceLogic I would find a way to promote and Sell IT services. The use cases are endless.

Event creation, device relation building, and customization are excellent aspects of ScienceLogic for infrastructure and application monitoring.
What is most valuable?
Event creation, device relation building, and customization are excellent aspects of ScienceLogic for infrastructure and application monitoring. Dashboards are another excellent feature as that provides a visual representation to application owners and support teams.
How has it helped my organization?
ScienceLogic has helped us to create a structural view of our infrastructure and applications that also details trending usage. Correlating the usage with logged events is useful in troubleshooting and knowledge creation.
What needs improvement?
One of the main areas for improvement would be the reporting section of ScienceLogic. There is a lot of great information that ScienceLogic collects but the current reporting option are very limited without extensive customization.
For how long have I used the solution?
Two years
What was my experience with deployment of the solution?
Initial issues in deploying with vlan tagging due to changing network environment. Most of the deployment is very intuitive.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Initial issue involving the hard drive specs created some issues but support was very helpful in solving and assisting us through this issue.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
There was a few issue involving the quantity of devices to be monitored, including the interfaces, versus the amount of collectors required. Larger quantities of interfaces was the biggest issue but just required recalculating how many devices per collectors were necessary.
How are customer service and technical support?
Customer Service:
Excellent. The customer service and support has been the best of any vendor I have had experience dealing with in my professional history.
Technical Support:I would also rate technical support as excellent. They have stayed with us through every issue we my face and provided consistent updates. The level of skill is exceptional for troubleshooting and has been an incredible resource.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Multiple tools were previously used but limited view, lacking features, and failed support caused use to switch.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup was straightforward with the assistance of deployment support. It was a very educational setup.
What about the implementation team?
The initial deployment was through ScienceLogic but additional deployments were done through our in-house group. In both cases, deployment was easy and intuitive.
What was our ROI?
I believe the prevention and ability to quickly troubleshoot issues is the main ROI. The less time taken to deal with major issues, the more time teams can focus on other issues regarding services provided.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Pricing and licensing is fair depending on how you plan to use ScienceLogic. The range of options ScienceLogic provides makes the cost flexible and reasonable.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
Some other options consisted of Nagios and SolarWinds. The reason ScienceLogic was chosen is for it's functionality and customization. It's growing integration with other tools and the ability to grow per customer needs makes it an excellent tool.
What other advice do I have?
ScienceLogic is a tool that you can appreciate to multiple levels of technical experience. The ability to customize and grow the tool to the company needs is a huge benefit.

Sr. Director, MSC Technologies at a tech company with 1,001-5,000 employees
Covers a lot of different products and the company generally responds quickly when we reach out to them.
Valuable Features
I see the biggest features of EM7 is that it is can cover a lot of different products very quickly and without a ton of effort. In my book, the second biggest feature is the company behind the product, they generally respond quickly to issues with some level of urgency and they seem very motivated to innovate the software.
I have thought long and hard about the following statement but if I had to setup another shop all over again EM7 would be the first tool I would fire up #truestory.
Improvements to My Organization
We can approach many different solutions without a ton of lift on developers which helps us a great deal. We still need to put time into tuning what is in the defaults, but we can get up and running in short order using EM7.
Room for Improvement
Reporting is still a gigantic pain point, we invest a lot of cycles in manufacturing reports off-board -#notfun. While EM7 covers a lot of ground quickly and is capable of consuming enormous amounts of event and performance data, EM7 ironically has a hard time reporting on it - basic reporting is there, but if you let's say want to run a report for the last 90 days how many Cisco 2900 routers had a critical power supply incident that for one isn't easy and two needs a developer to write a custom report.
QA of their power-packs has been an uphill battle at times, and I feel like it's in part due to how EM7 is marketed. When a vendor claims they have a management pack for a given manufacturer, that doesn't necessarily mean its going to be dead on accurate for production use. If you need to make dead certain that the release is going to deliver I have come to learn every in step of the way to production needs thorough testing before putting it into a production environment - moral of the story here is make no assumptions and read your release notes. Also your team time for tuning the software release, like I said EM7 consumes alot of data, that always isn't a good thing.
For me the UI lays out very logically, then again I use it every day, but for many of our users navigating the UI gets confusing quickly and before long the user gets lost and frustrated and they give up. The UI for any end user facing systems needs to welcome all walks of life, EM7 at present( I know they are working on the UI currently) is really geared to the end users who are professional engineers not necessarily the weekender admin - which if you are professional engineer you're going to feel right at home.
Deployment Issues
Deployment went very smooth, their installation engineers still engage with us with is a luxury not every vendor can handle.
Stability Issues
It's been a real workhorse for us, but you gotta take care of the horse.
Scalability Issues
As it relates to scalability : if you follow all the rules, take time to read the manuals, its infinitely scalable in my opinion. That said we haven't had any issues with scalability :)
Customer Service and Technical Support
Customer Service:
Superior to most, they have a good account coverage plan, we get treated pretty well even when there is bad news.
Technical Support:Probably some of the best in the business at getting to the root of the issue quickly.
Implementation Team
We implemented through a vendor team initially, our team seemed to have root level knowledge of the system. I haven't seen many of their engineers spending any time scratching their head on situations.

Kalani – thanks for your review. As you know, we’re constantly enhancing the ScienceLogic platform in response to customer feedback. The reporting enhancements you referenced are an area of emphasis. In upcoming releases, expect to see revamped reporting as well as significant usability improvements for all (including casual users and the weekender admin) as we introduce new navigation and workflows. Feel free to reach out to your Customer Success Manager for more information. We sincerely appreciate your feedback!
Systems Administrator at a tech vendor with 501-1,000 employees
The Power Packs are my favorite feature.
What is most valuable?
The Power Packs that are available are amazing. It took me ~10 minutes to fully configure multiple Pure disk arrays. The Cisco UCS power pack was even faster. Literally pointed it at the IP of the UCS and it did all the work.
How has it helped my organization?
Dashboards have been great. Management loves seeing all the little green lights. Steep learning curve but very beneficial.
What needs improvement?
The UI takes a bit to learn but once you get past that it gets the job done. Creating dashboards is also complex but that is because of the sheer number of options.
For how long have I used the solution?
2+ years
What was my experience with deployment of the solution?
We have not had any issues with the initial install or any updates. Very straight forward. No curve balls. Configuring firewalls will take much longer than settings up ScienceLogic.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Our server is overloaded but still works great. We are planning on adding more nodes to alleviate this. We were also expecting a large uptick in network resource usage but its amazingly small.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
No issues with scalability. We have pushed our server beyond whats recommended and it is still chugging along fine.
How are customer service and technical support?
Customer Service:
10/10. Have never had any bad experiences with the customer service. Prompt responses and they always help out.
Technical Support:11/10!!! The support team is AMAZING! I cannot stress this enough. Every call the support team goes above and beyond troubleshooting.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Nagios. We switched because it is less effort to configure new devices in ScienceLogic. The power packs are really what sets ScienceLogic apart from other solutions.
How was the initial setup?
Very simple to roll out. Have not had any issues with initial installs or any updates. The hardest part for us was configuring SNMP across hundreds of Unix servers which took some scripting.
What about the implementation team?
In house install. No issues on the roll out. Fairly standard set up. Nothing too complicated. Updates are as simple as uploading the file to the Science Logic server and hitting go.
What was our ROI?
We have not done any official ROI for ScienceLogic. We do feel its 100% worth it. Management loves seeing the dashboards up and the alerting has been amazing.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Costs more than Nagios but has way more features and is 100% worth the price. The power packs make such a big difference.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We were using Nagios before and switched to ScienceLogic. I don't recall the other products we reviewed prior. ScienceLogic does everything we need it to.
What other advice do I have?
I cannot stress how great the Power Packs are. The Pure Disk and Cisco UCS packs are out of this world. There haven't been many things we have not found integration for.

Support Engineer at a tech services company with 51-200 employees
We evaluated SolarWinds and ScienceLogic. We chose ScienceLogic because we found the deployment to be better suited to our Managed Service Provider environment.
What is most valuable?
ServiceNow API integration - Allows us to automate monitoring alerts for our internal infrastructure as well as our client environments.
Highly Customizable - The platform is capable of almost anything in terms of reporting/monitoring/alerting. If I determine there is something I need to be monitoring, I can quickly create an event that will be generated. When combined with ServiceNow intergration, our Support Team can quickly address issues.
Phone-Home Collectors - Having the ability for the collectors to report back to a central database over the internet is an amazing feature. Rather than spending weeks establishing a Site-to-Site VPN with each of our customers, we simply provide and ISO file to our clients and input the address/key of our database. We can turn up collectors in a matter of minutes.
How has it helped my organization?
I work for a Managed Service Provider and we rely heavily on our monitoring/alerting platform. One of the primary functions of our Support Team is the acknowledgement of alerts and communication with our clients on the health of their environment. ScienceLogic has given us the ability to generate tickets directly from monitoring events. When a client requests that we provide alerts on a specific function/feature being unavailable, I can typically create a new event policy that fits the bill.
Our Client team works to provide meaningful information to our clients in the form of reports. ScienceLogic allowed for us to create PRI utilization reports that we can send to our clients. The automation / scheduling of the reports reduces the administrative overhead put on the Client team and myself.
What needs improvement?
Simplified Interface - ScienceLogic can be a bit overwhelming when you begin working with it. The amount of customization is sometimes too much. A simplified user interface would help to alleviate this.
NetFlow Support - I would like to see ScienceLogic support Netflow so that it can be used to identify applications that could be affecting network bandwidth.
Configuration Backup - Another feature I would like to see added to ScienceLogic. It is unfortunate that I have to use different systems to perform certain functions of a Network Management System (NMS)
For how long have I used the solution?
We have used the solution for approximately 2 years.
What was my experience with deployment of the solution?
There were no deployment issues to my knowledge. I wasn't part of the initial deployment. However, the infrastructure consisted of a Database, Administration Portal and Data Collector. All were deployed as virtual appliances on a VM host.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Overall, the system has been very stable. In the two years we have had the system, I have only encountered two instances where the database would experience issues. It would lock up and collectors would stop sending data to it. A system reboot typically cleared up any problems I would see.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We have not encountered any scalability issues yet. We have grown from monitoring 100 devices to upwards of 500. The system doesn't seem to be experiencing any problems.
How are customer service and technical support?
Customer Service:
The customer service has been excellent. Whenever I have a question or require assistance, they are helpful and polite.
Technical Support:The Supoort Team consists of some great engineers. I feel confident that when I submit a support ticket, I will get an engineer who understands the system and how to best resolve the problem I am experiencing.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We were not using an NMS prior to ScienceLogic. As we grew, we wanted a way to provide monitoring/alerting and ticket generation from the platform. ScienceLogic fit that bill perfectly.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is straight forward from a high-level. We received assistance from ScienceLogic on the initial installation / configuration. I was not involved in the actual deployment but it sounded like it went well.
What about the implementation team?
We worked directly with ScienceLogic on the installation. I was not involved in the initial deployment. The co-worker who deployed the system seemed to be happy with their level of expertise.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Licensing is based upon the number of the devices, as well as the tier of the device being monitored. For example, a Tier 1 license is going to cost less than a Tier 6 license. I suggest that you appropriately classify your devices in the proper tier. Otherwise, you may find that the automated discovery of the devices will put them in the incorrect tier.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
Our team evaluated SolarWinds as well as ScienceLogic. From a pricing perspective, ScienceLogic was superior. Also, the deployment of ScienceLogic was better suited to our Managed Service Provider environment. Having to establish Site-to-Site VPNs for all of our clients would significantly increase the deployment time. The phone-home collector available from ScienceLogic is an excellent solution for any MSP.
What other advice do I have?
Pros:
- The platform is excellent for monitoring / alerting / ticket generation to ServiceNow
- You can customize virtually every aspect of the system.
- Phone-Home collectors allow you to deploy remote appliances within different networks with no need for VPNs.
- Virtual or hardware appliance options
- Excellent Customer Service and Support
Cons:
- The User Interface is a bit overwhelming until you become more familiar with it.
- No Configuration Backup support
- No NetFlow support

Review about ScienceLogic
What is most valuable?
We make extensive use of the custom application profiling and monitoring. Most of our applications have enterprise SNMP MIBS and we make extensive use of the modelling capabilities and auto-discovery/classification to ensure our systems are monitored when they come online.
How has it helped my organization?
One of our largest challenges before implementing our ScienceLogic system was the presence of nuisance alarms. After implementing ScienceLogic, we were able to eliminate this issue by extensive use of the modelling tools.
What needs improvement?
The reporting module needs work. We often find ourselves creating reports by accessing the backend database directly instead of the built-in tools. We would also like to see improvements in the modelling capabilities for the IT service toolset.
For how long have I used the solution?
We have been using ScienceLogic for over 7 years.
What was my experience with deployment of the solution?
Deployment was done in a systematic way by cutting over segments of the network and types of systems. We did not have any significant issues with deployment.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
We have not had issues with stability for several years. The platform is very stable and does not require a lot of system admin time.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We currently have 20,000+ systems in our primary ScienceLogic system and general performance is acceptable. We would like better scalability in the time-series performance data storage.
How are customer service and technical support?
Customer Service:
We don't use a lot of customer service directly from ScienceLogic. We have a long standing relationship with them and typically cut through to the appropriate level straight away.
Technical Support:Technical support is good. We have extensive in-house knowledge and typically only escalate the most serious of technical challenges.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Yes. Our previous product had many deficiencies including lack of logical expressions, mixed licensing, limited cross-functional tools, and other issues. Also, getting our own enhancements into the product was impossible.
How was the initial setup?
It was basically straight forward to get up and running. Assuming networking and firewalls are open appropriately it can be setup and providing value within hours.
What about the implementation team?
Both. We typically handle our own implementation for small upgrades and installations. For large upgrades, we contract ScienceLogic directly to assist. They are very knowledgeable in their support for implementation.
What was our ROI?
That is difficult to measure for a monitoring platform... We consider it a positive ROI by having to the ability to get high quality actionable events and reducing headcount needed to maintain multiple tools.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Boils down to each organization - you can model ScienceLogic as a subscription or as a capital purchase + expense. We have a mixed model depending on the organization within our company and its preference.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
Yes, we looked at SevOne, HPOV (NNM + OVO), SMARTS + Watch3Net, plus a few others. We also weighed open source products like Nagios and OpenNMS.
What other advice do I have?
ScienceLogic is an excellent all around suite of tools. We were able to reduce the number of tools by its adoption. They constantly innovate and move in lockstep to most industry trends.

CTO at HOSTING
Video Review
Integration with its API in our customer portal allows us to create visuals and capacity monitoring interfaces. I'd like to see integration with external synthetic transaction monitoring solutions.
What is most valuable?
The most valuable features of any kind of monitoring system go to its core functionality. I have to know when my customers are down, I have to be able to report back to them on SLAs, I need to be able to also report back to them on capacity. It's no longer just a question of being up or down but how up or down something is in terms of its available capacity and our ability to react to that in a timely manner.
HOSTING's vision of the unified cloud is one in which customers don't have to tightly couple the services that they want from us with a platform that we choose for them. We want the customers to have the ability to deploy their applications across whatever platform they want, be that AWS, or our VMware platform, our Hyper-V platform. We want to be able to provide them consistent experiences across all of those. Then the integration points that ScienceLogic offers, which each of those key external and internal partners are absolutely critical to us.
How has it helped my organization?
The two main benefits are, one, integration with their API in our customer portal has allowed us to create some really interesting visuals. It's allowed us to create some really engaging capacity monitoring interfaces. The other side, too, is they're dashboard-ing and reporting, which through Single Sign-on, we've been able to integrate directly into our portal, so we can expose their dashboard-ing capabilities directly to our customers. The job of an MSP these days has really changed from just being a hoster to really being an aggregator and a trusted advisor. In the insights that their platform allows us to deliver really enables to do that.
What needs improvement?
Things that are key for me are really good turnkey integration with external platforms. I'm seeing a lot of interest in lately from our customers is synthetic transaction monitoring. Introducing that into their continuous monitoring practice, so seeing them integrate with folks like Ghost Inspector or AlertSite that do synthetic transaction monitoring, as a service, as a platform, and being able to ingest data from their APIs the same way they do with AWS and other platforms would really be key in giving a true 360 view of a customer's application health.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
EM7 is a very, very stable platform. Mileage always varies when you're a service provider. You know that whatever technology you pick for any given solution is going to be, you're going to be pushing. The ScienceLogic team has been phenomenal in working with us to allows the system to scale to exactly what we need.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Scalability is key. One of the biggest challenges that you have with monitoring systems is just simply dealing with what I call the signal-to-noise ratio. There is a tremendous amount of data coming in and the system needs to be able not only to scale to address the full install base that we need it to, but it also needs to be able to ingest all of that data and bubble it up to our monitoring teams in a way that is understandable and actionable so that we are really able, as I said, to separate the signal from the noise. Their platform really enables us to do that.
How are customer service and technical support?
The support's been fantastic. What I really like with working with a company that has a technical founder is that it really is a company that really cares about making great technology. That's not necessarily the case for what we've seen from past monitoring vendors, so it's been really refreshing working with the ScienceLogic team. It has a great technical team and also a great technical vision.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We knew the best way that you always know something because your customers are saying to you. My boss says to me a lot, "Our customers are the ones that should be pushing us. Our customers should always be pushing us to be better." That was in a sense that's exactly where we were. We were in a situation where our ability to integrate new features into our monitoring platform was taking way too long and was way too cumbersome. Our ability to keep that system current at a current patch level with a vendor was unbelievably complicated. Realistically speaking, we had a problem that we couldn't even deliver the baseline of services, let alone innovate. You hear that from your customers. After you've heard it from two or three really big customers, you know I've got to dos something about it.
It was heavily architecturally skewed because we understand monitoring systems. I know a lot about the architecture behind the way good monitoring systems work. Having seen a lot of bad monitoring systems, I really knew what we were looking for in terms of a distributed architecture in terms of the ability for collectors to dynamically fail and devices to be able to move within a collector group dynamically, in terms of not storing local state data out on collectors and warehousing it internally. Those are some of the key components there. But, outside of that it was your core components. I want to be able to do ICMP, HTTP, TCP, SNMP, those are all my basic stuff. I also want to have turnkey integration with all of the external platforms to really go and enable the unified cloud. That's existing integration with AWS, integration with Azure. More importantly, a vision that aligned with our own. We have a very clear and a very defined vision about the unified cloud and where we're taking that, so it's critical that's to partner with vendors that share that vision.
How was the initial setup?
Nothing we do is straightforward. That's just the nature of operating at the scale that we do. I can tell you that over the course of nine months with a tremendous amount of input from their and support from their team in terms of design and implementation and architecture, we were able to migrate, I want to say, around fifteen thousand devices from a legacy monitoring platform into EM7 without missing a beat. You think about a nine-month project, you consider the amount of time that went into that. Nine months sounds long, but I don't think it is. I thinks that's probably less than it should have taken, and certainly less than it would have taken with other platforms.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
There were three vendors that were a part of that evaluation, yes. Testing the system scale is not easy. There's a certain amount of art to that to extrapolating out how a system will behave at scale because we weren't going to roll the entire thing out just to see how it worked. We spent a lot of time doing functional testing and also a lot of time doing integration testing. It's key for us to be able to integrate with any platform that we're building both on the service delivery side, so we have the ability to automatically ingest devices that we provision in whatever cloud automatically into our ScienceLogic environment. Then be able to bubble performance and applicable alert data about those devices up into our customer portal. I would say the key evaluation areas were going to be around the presentation layer, so the ability for us to be able to leverage their dashboard-ing, their reporting capabilities, natively, which we integrated with through a single sign-on, their ability to expose an API that had a parity with their user experience.
It's interesting because whenever you ask somebody, "How's your API?" They always say, "Our API's great." Really the question you want to ask them is, "Does your API have parity with your UI? Is there anything your UI is doing that is special or hidden or doesn't use your API?" If the answer's yes, then you got to dig into that. Basically, what we found is that there is tremendous completeness with their own UI and their API. Realistically, we were able to build out a very, very full and rich experience in our own portal that we could expose up to customers. I would say the other real criteria there was around multi-tendency. A smart person once said, "Nobody builds products for service providers. We figure out how they work and we make them work the way we want to." In fact, it was my old boss that said that.
I would say that of the platforms that we evaluated, ScienceLogic was most built for service providers. They really had a good grasp around multi-tendency, a good grasp around organizational relationships with the monitoring system. We didn't have to force the data model to understand how we wanted it to think, it was well understood. We were very happy with our ability to integrate our customer base into that.
What other advice do I have?
No platform is perfect, and if anybody tells you their platform is perfect, they're probably in sales. Realistically speaking, when you talk about the technology behind a platform, you talk about entering into a partnership with somebody like this to operate at this kind of a scale, it's what I call a five-year decision. It's something that I want to do and then not have to think about for at least the next five years. You don't do that with just technology. There's no one technology that you're going to do, that you're to select that's going to give you that. The package really is the technology and the people that are behind it. The team at ScienceLogic has done a phenomenal job helping us to scale and helping us to tackle any hurdles that we run into.

Internal Systems and Tools Manager with 1,001-5,000 employees
Has significantly reduced the environmental related tickets going to our helpdesk. It's scalable for growth.
What is most valuable?
ScienceLogic is multi-tenant from the ground up, starting at the code level. With many other tools, you have to trick them into behaving in a multi-tenant fashion.
It gives us the ability to monitor everything from Windows and Linux servers to physical and virtual servers, SANs, network equipment, and firewalls.
Built-in event correlation and analysis intelligently suppresses expected and known events, while escalating alerts for urgent events.
The built-in runbook automation has helped drive greater efficiency.
The ability to quickly build our own monitoring templates for non-traditional equipment and network interface support.
It’s a platform which we’re able to integrate with. It's very flexible.
How has it helped my organization?
We now have intelligent alerting to distinguish between critical and normal notifications. The monitoring can scale as we grow.
Improved efficiency by using built-in runbook automation.
Extended monitoring coverage to non-traditional equipment.
We were able to reduce the number of environmental related tickets going to our helpdesk, by over 40%
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We’re a growing cloud services provider, and set out to build a framework that would provide the scalability we needed to support future growth. ScienceLogic provides scalability beyond our current needs.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We were using a number of different tools to monitor our infrastructure and a large amount of time was spent separating urgent alerts from notifications. We needed to consolidate tools. We found that we could consolidate nine of our tools to their one monitoring platform.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
In the end, the level of coverage, ability to scale, and built-in multi-tenancy gave ScienceLogic’s platform the edge in our comparative analysis.

Technology Services Director with 51-200 employees
Agentless deployment means you can very quickly get meaningful information back from the system
What is most valuable?
The ability to see precisely what's happening and how those parts are interacting with a client's IT system.
True multi-tenancy has benefits because we can provide clients with their own fully transparent information from our system of what's going on at their network. It’s a real plus especially for clients who have their own IT teams and want to manage the networks themselves but with the reassurance that our teams are in the background.
How has it helped my organization?
It enables us to monitor a diverse set of vendors that we deal with. We work with major vendors such as Microsoft, Citrix, Cisco, Symantec and Dell and we were looking for something which out of the box would enable us to monitor all of these solutions.
For example, at its most basic level - if we have a server volume increasing in disk space we can avoid it filling up to the level where something goes offline. By being proactive and avoiding the problem it takes far less resource time for us to deal with that issue.
Life before ScienceLogic was quite responsive. Although we did managed services to a degree, they were more of a point in time check for the health of the client system rather than real time deep analysis. Now we’re able to resolve client problems not only before they have a problem but also when we have to troubleshoot we can look back in time and can get a picture of what was going on with the network to avoid repeat occurrences.
We used to spend a lot of time traveling to customer sites with engineers to do what we call a health check before we took new clients on board. This was nothing more complicated and sophisticated than an engineer driving to the location and filling in a Word document while on site - kicking the tires to see what a particular server was doing. We’re now able to deploy a data collector very quickly. We can even send collectors out that report to us without even going to the client's firewall and so we can very quickly get a picture of the prospective IT system that we're looking to support.
ScienceLogic also has much more efficient troubleshooting than what we were using in the past.
What was my experience with deployment of the solution?
No issues with deployment. Deployment and time to value is rapid. It's very easy to install and agentless deployment means you can very quickly get meaningful information back from the system.
How are customer service and technical support?
They provide quality support - immediately after deployment and throughout.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Previously we were using a whole mix and match of different tools to achieve different kinds of service delivery but the key problem for us was there was no holistic view of what was going on deep inside our clients IT systems. We knew that we needed to consolidate and get one tool that would give us that deep visibility.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We looked at a number of different solutions, but nothing matched what ScienceLogic could offer, both in terms of company personnel and the product itself.

Senior Director of Systems Integration at a comms service provider with 501-1,000 employees
We were growing rapidly and found that we had too many tools which needed to be consolidated.
What is most valuable?
ScienceLogic works with us to solve our problems and make our services better. We were able to reduce faults and nuisance alarms by 40 percent within a short time of implementing and using the ScienceLogic platform.
How has it helped my organization?
We chose the ScienceLogic platform because it really met and exceeded all of the requirements that we had put forth in the RFI. We will be moving a lot more services off premises to cloud providers and ScienceLogic already provides monitoring capabilities for public cloud providers. It fits in very well with what we expect to be doing in the future.
The number one requirement was the ability for the product to import our MIB files and start monitoring our custom applications right away. Because we produce our own custom equipment and applications the ease with which we could make our own custom monitoring templates was quite important to us. We were able to set-up our custom monitoring with very little support from ScienceLogic and that was something many of the other vendors we evaluated surprisingly couldn't actually do.
The platform has helped us streamline our processes for event management and the entire way we monitor our services. One of the ways we restored the confidence in our NOC operations folks was combining SNMP collected objects with other objects to reduce faults and nuisance alarms.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We were growing very rapidly and what we found was that we had too many tools. We had one tool for SNMP monitoring, another tool for monitoring infrastructure, a third tool for making graphs and reports plus a whole slew of home-grown scripts. We were worried that NOC operations would start to lose confidence in the tool sets which required a lot of extra training.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We interviewed many different vendors looking for the right solution to meet our requirements. We narrowed it down to a couple candidates and actually did a bake-off at our offices.
What other advice do I have?
You don't need an army of consultants to get really good results out of the toolset. They've met all of our requirements plus other requirements that were less tangible in the RFI.

IT Infrastructure Analytics with 1,001-5,000 employees
We’re now able to monitor our entire IT environment (onsite and offsite in AWS) from one solution.
What is most valuable?
Coverage for Amazon Web Services. We can automatically discover, map, and apply the right monitoring policies to resources as they are deployed into AWS.
Support.
Savings for our IT Operations team.
Ability to automatically detect the dependencies that exist between our AWS based resources and onsite resources.
Intuitive and simple to use - frees up our technical efforts for other tasks.
Enhanced predictive analytics.
We can monitor many different areas of infrastructure: database, network, Wintel, Unix, Linux, etc. and combine them into one dashboard instead of needing to send out alerts. For example, instead of a CPU alert, we can provide a dashboard and allow the team to manage it themselves. I don’t need to send the events anymore, I can provide a visual representation of what’s going on in their environment.
How has it helped my organization?
We were able to increase the monitoring coverage of both our legacy and public cloud based infrastructures, while also cutting costs by over $2 million across a five year period.
We expanded monitoring of infrastructure elements by over 500%.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Our previous solution lacked monitoring support for hybrid IT environments. We would have needed to invest more than $10 million to retool our then monitoring solution to meet our needs. We knew that we needed to move from a Legacy Based Framework Tool to a Hybrid IT Monitoring Platform.
We decided that a “cloud first” strategy was the most appropriate strategy for us and began deploying new workloads to Amazon Web Services. Our move to a hybrid IT model presented several challenges, one primary challenge was monitoring an environment split across datacenters and AWS. Our existing IT operations management solution did not provide monitoring for both onsite and AWS based resources. Further, it did not provide the flexibility we needed to discover and monitor elements that appear and disappear in moments within a cloud-based environment.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We researched for 3-months in order find the best hybrid IT monitoring platform for our needs. I did an analysis of 25 distinct vendors comparing 100 different capabilities and 100 separate security concerns. After the completion of the analysis, I put the top 3 providers in a weighted average spreadsheet hiding their names, to ensure an unbiased result.
We were looking for a monitoring platform that, beyond supporting our hybrid IT needs, could provide separate dashboards to individual contributors, dramatically reduce costs, proactively alert when potential problems were approaching, and significantly cut the time it took to perform root cause detection.
What other advice do I have?
We’re now able to monitor our entire IT environment, both onsite and offsite in AWS, from one solution, with 1/5 of the staff that would have been required with the legacy solution.

Technical Implementation Manager at a comms service provider with 51-200 employees
The solution we previously used was fairly difficult to use for monitoring and limited our capabilities.
What is most valuable?
We now have a solution that lives on our customers’ sites. It actually pulls in the data real time and gives us the proper alerts when we need them.
The dashboards give us an added level of service offering to our customers.
The key features that we really appreciate are
- The built-in monitoring templates are very good for video.
- The platform enables us to do a lot of customization with our customers helping us to go the extra mile and differentiate our services.
- The multi-tenant environment is very good because we’re able to manage all of our customers from one view, while ensuring they only see their data.
How has it helped my organization?
Being able to email people when an alert happens and notify them right away is a big help to us and our customers. We've looked into things like having them log in to have their own dashboards. Certain executives like to see things that are going on or certain IT professionals for our customers.
Reporting and other features in the product give our customers a self-service ability so they don’t always have to contact us. Our customers now have a way to login themselves to use the product as well as we do.
We're working on the reporting stuff, that's probably our next phase- to work on the reporting, this way we can automate everything.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Before ScienceLogic, our monitoring was fairly difficult to do. We were kind of limited in our capabilities.
What other advice do I have?
It has allowed us to grow. We’re able to offer new services to our customers that they didn't have in the past. So this is opening a whole new door of monitoring offerings to our customers and what we can provide for them on top of what we already are providing.

Senior Network & Datacentre Ops Eng at a comms service provider with 10,001+ employees
Has improved our network infrastructure monitoring and reduces any unplanned outages.
What is most valuable?
- Registry information for better inventory pull information
- Event information to granular level
- Adding support/KB notes to events
How has it helped my organization?
Improved network infrastructure monitoring which reduces any unplanned outages.
What needs improvement?
Need to have a better export data/copy to clipboard option to transfer the data to do more analytics on the events/trends/graph.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've used it for two years.
What was my experience with deployment of the solution?
Error information doesn’t have a good information if something goes wrong while doing a device discovery (I tried this a while back- couldn’t be more specific).
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Never got to know since we have two to three instances running.
How are customer service and technical support?
Customer Service:
I haven't needed to call them.
Technical Support:I haven't needed to call them.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Yes, and we switched because it had a heavy GUI and was impossible to suppress certain events.
What about the implementation team?
In-house.
Disclosure: I am a real user, and this review is based on my own experience and opinions.
Solutions Architect at a tech services company with 501-1,000 employees
All in one solution including discovery, asset management, alerting, and ticketing, with simplified ease of integration.
What is most valuable?
The many features offered for one price, including discovery, asset management, alerting, and ticketing, with simplified ease of integration across all features.
How has it helped my organization?
The ability to integrate a lot of data into one platform, with the ability to use the content to support operational and business groups.
What needs improvement?
Support for vendor private MIBs, simplify the approach to setup monitoring of all available SNMP data for a given platform type.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've used it for over two years.
What was my experience with deployment of the solution?
The lack of support for private MIBs required some custom professional services support. The vendor also needs to improve their attention to detail when defining the scope of professional services and managing the execution.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
No issues with stability.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Use the professional services proposed solution to support private MIBs, we are encountering what appears to be poling time outs, which creates false positives. We are still working through this issue.
How are customer service and technical support?
Customer Service:
3/5, but you have to push the issues to ensure a good response and timely follow up.
Technical Support:3/5 overall, but their advanced support teams are very solid and I would give them a 5/5.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We used Openview, but the administrative skill set required specialized staff. We were looking for a replacement for basic monitoring and discovered this solution, which offered a lot more features, some of which were on our priority list and did not expect to find in one solution.
How was the initial setup?
Straightforward, but once you get past discovery you have to learn how to setup monitoring and event messages. There is a lot of automation as discovered, but you have to understand what is automatically setup and why. Then you can look at customizing things for your environment.
What about the implementation team?
Vendor team whose skill level I would give a 4/5 for the understanding of their platform.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The original investment started at $25K, with an additional $225K to scale it to support our requirements across a large enterprise with up to 5,000 devices and access for thousands of users.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
Yes, but we ended up to an extended evaluation of this product and none of the other ones we found offered the broad range of features.
What other advice do I have?
Commit resources to focus on learning and exploiting all of the features. With so many features it can be a distraction. Need to have a clear set of requirements that you are looking to satisfy. Then you can layer on other features to compliment your original strategy.

Manager - Managed Services at a tech services company with 501-1,000 employees
Much better than the SMB product we were previously using.
What is most valuable?
Device monitoring.
How has it helped my organization?
It has given us comprehensive monitoring across all platforms. Better to have a best of breed tool than an SMB product.
What needs improvement?
Reporting needs to be improved. It was sold as a tool we could use for out clients and it was a complete failure. Also, built in applications should be more to best proactive monitors.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've used it for two years.
What was my experience with deployment of the solution?
Yes.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Yes.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Yes.
How are customer service and technical support?
Customer Service:
High.
Technical Support:5/10.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Yes, and we switched because we were using an SMB tool that could not scale to larger clients or monitor a broad enough scope of devices.
How was the initial setup?
Simple.
What about the implementation team?
In-house.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
Yes, we looked at continuing with our previous tool, Kaseya and a couple of other multi-tenant tools.
What other advice do I have?
Implement with a consulting group that knows the product. Don't expect the talent at ScienceLogic to help with process. The infrastructure you place this product on makes a huge difference.

Service Delivery Manager at a tech services company with 51-200 employees
It is very powerful and customizable, and their support infrastructure is top notch.
What is most valuable?
The dashboards are probably the best selling point. API functionality, customization features, and flexibility of the tool in general, are the best features.
How has it helped my organization?
We lacked the power or features that the EM7 dashboards provide, and have won more than one account based on that alone. Same scenario for AWS support.
What needs improvement?
I would like to see an expansion of the API.
For how long have I used the solution?
We have been working with ScienceLogic and EM7 for approximately one and a half years.
What was my experience with deployment of the solution?
The ScienceLogic Deployment Team took care of our installation and configuration, and walked us through some of the basics we needed to get off the ground. Their team is knowledgeably and friendly, and it was incredibly helpful that they provided this service for us.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
My Redundant/DR deployment has been running, issue free, for one and a half years.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Shouldn't encounter any issues - when we are ready, or it is necessary, a global manager function will help us manage multiple deployments from a single interface.
How are customer service and technical support?
Customer Service:
10 out of 10
Technical Support:10 out of 10
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We use multiple solutions, however this is by far the most customizable and feature rich solution in our arsenal.
How was the initial setup?
The HA or DR deployments introduce some minor complexities, however the deployment team stands ready to assist with any issues that are encountered, or can deploy with you onsite.
What about the implementation team?
We used a vendor team who I would rate a 10 out of 10.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
Yes, we also looked at Nagios, SolarWinds, Zabbix, and Nimsoft.
What other advice do I have?
It's packed with features and out-of-the-box integrations, there is quite a bit going on in this tool, so the learning curve can be a bit steeper than other tools in this category, but very powerful and customizable, and their support infrastructure is top notch.
Talk to Sales and Technical Support - ask a lot of questions. They will get you set on the right course.

DataCenter & Facility Consultant at a manufacturing company with 1,001-5,000 employees
Has saved us time. Very efficient in terms of deployment and implementation.
What is most valuable?
Too many to name all of them but some examples are:
- Dashboard
- Dynamic Apps
- Widget builder
- Reporting
- Integration
- Custom threshold
- Custom event
- Runbook
- Automation
How has it helped my organization?
Time. Very efficient in terms of deployment, and implementation.
What needs improvement?
I see room to do better in the network and SNMP trap processing. A major bug was discovered on the asset warranty alarm mapping, I hope the problem has been resolved by now.
For how long have I used the solution?
One and a half years on a global scale.
What was my experience with deployment of the solution?
There were times when the backup MySQL data sync had a problem within the probe and the main instance.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Minor, it was related to the sync issues.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The scalability and performance is excellent. We use it globally.
How are customer service and technical support?
Customer Service:
They are knowledgeable and very responsive.
Technical Support:Excellent.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We previously used a different solution. This is the best tool ever which allowed us to consolidate from various monitoring solutions such as HPOV, CA and SCOM..
What about the implementation team?
Both in-house and though a vendor team. They are very experienced and able to answer straight from an inquiry when it comes to a technical issue.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
Yes, we looked at FireScope unify.
What other advice do I have?
It has a speedy deployment and an impressive dashboard.

System Administrator at a tech services company with 51-200 employees
We were using Nagios but switched to ScienceLogic to centralize our monitoring, graphing, and alerting systems.
What is most valuable?
The best feature is how customizable the platform is. It can be integrated into various systems, processes, and customized to the client's liking.
How has it helped my organization?
The product was able to centralize our monitoring, graphing, and alerting systems (including PagerDuty integration).
What needs improvement?
Usability is important. The interface is nice, but very complex and requires lots of learning involved in managing and navigating the product.
For how long have I used the solution?
I used this solution for over a year, replacing an existing monitoring platform.
What was my experience with deployment of the solution?
No issues encountered with deployment.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
No issues encountered with stability.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Yes - scaling for thousands of servers requires a significant footprint of collectors to handle the load.
How are customer service and technical support?
Customer Service:
Excellent customer service.
Technical Support:Excellent technical support.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Nagios - we switched because ScienceLogic is an all in one solution which is able to do more than Nagios.
How was the initial setup?
It was complex - it required their technicians to assist on setting up the system initially.
What about the implementation team?
Through ScienceLogic direct. They were very knowledgeable.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Setup and day-to-day cost is negotiable, but having a lot of devices can be expensive in the long run.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We compared ScienceLogic to Nagios, LogicMon, and Zabbix.
What other advice do I have?
Test the product thoroughly and do a cost analysis to see if the product is suitable long term.

Technical Implementation Manager at a tech services company with 51-200 employees
Gives us the ability to be very granular with our permissions. The dashboard for our VNOC is one of the best tools.
What is most valuable?
The dashboard for our VNOC is one of the best tools to allow our VNOC instant access into our customers' environments. The dynamic apps for the video conferencing devices (endpoints, Infrastructure, etc) are tailored to the wants and needs of our customers. They establish baselines and thresholds based on the industry leaders. The multi-tenant environment allows us to manage multiple customers in a single platform. ScienceLogic gives us the ability to be very granular with our permissions within the different organizations (customers) that we add to the platform.
How has it helped my organization?
Prior to using EM7 for our proactive monitoring, we used an email notification system to proactively monitor the customers devices. This would require an inbox to be constantly monitored in case an alert came in. The inbox would receive thousands of messages from devices a day and it was the technicians job to weed out which alerts were false positives and which alerts were actual critical/major issues.
What needs improvement?
I believe the knowledge base leaves a little room for improvement. Troubleshooting can be a little difficult without the help of a ScienceLogic technician. That may not be the case for our customers of ScienceLogic but we do not currently employ a Python technician to translate the error codes.
They are also beginning to expand the video portion of the product. This will help going forward.
For how long have I used the solution?
We begin implementing the product in March 2014. Our first multi tenant customer was added in June.
What was my experience with deployment of the solution?
We have not encountered any major problems with the deployment. There were some hiccups that were due to internal issues. The product itself is very easy to use and deploy.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I have not experienced any issues with stability in the last year.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
No issues with scalability.
How are customer service and technical support?
Customer Service:
The customer service at ScienceLogic is one of the best I've experienced over the last 13 years of my career. Everyone is willing to help us accomplish our goals to provide better monitoring for our customers. Their Professional Services have met with us multiple times to provide additional support for the needs of a few customers.
Technical Support:The technical support team is a top notch team. They are all extremely knowledgeable and I have not encountered a time when our problem wasn't not resolved within a reasonable time-frame.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We switched based on the needs of our customers.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup was very straightforward. When we purchased the product they deployed a knowledgeable architect to assist with standing up our environment. He worked with us to customize to meet the needs of our company. After the initial standup, I was able to stand up a lab environment without any assistance from ScienceLogic support. That's how easy it was!
What about the implementation team?
We implemented through an in-house team. There was a group of 4 of us that initially worked with the technician to get everything setup. We have an implementation team that now works with our customers to onboard them into the ScienceLogic platform.
