User-friendly CLI and efficient dashboard streamline operations with robust security features
I find Palo Alto Networks VM-Series easy to deploy, and none of my customers have had significant complaints. My customers have high certifications provided by Palo Alto Networks. The friendly dashboard and the ability to easily command and use the CLI make Palo Alto Networks VM-Series a better product. It offers robust solutions, making it valuable to my customers.
Daniel Ogola - PeerSpot reviewer
The appliance is ready to integrate with the cloud in cases where the customers have a hybrid or cloud environment.
The go-between is a Veritas partner, so the customer support was not that good. The solution is fine except when there is a purchasing crisis where you have to remake the ecosystem. It causes a lot of issues. The support was a problem, but we're okay with it as long as we have someone to communicate with.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"In the newer version, there are 3850s, all of them are scalable. They fit better into the medium or small businesses."
"It scales linearly with load and no issues."
"The most valuable feature is the CLI."
"Centralized management is valuable because it allows us to configure settings in one location and apply them across all three locations."
"Overall, I rate Palo Alto Networks VM-Series an eight out of ten. I am happy with its performance and rich features."
"Embedding it into my application development lifecycle prevents data loss and business disruption, allowing the adoption to operate at the speed of my AWS Cloud."
"It offers a single pane of glass for all the different types of installations."
"Palo Alto offers excellent security, with features such as email scanning, malware protection, and efficient VPN and antivirus capabilities."
"The duplication is the solution's most valuable feature."
"The automated recovery feature of Veritas Alta SaaS Protection makes the recovery much easier, as opposed to earlier methods where we were using scripts to do the restore."
"Some of the tool's best features include an enhanced dashboard and strong security features compared to native Veritas. Our environment is entirely automated."
"he most valuable feature is that it's not so intrusive with computer resources."
"I think the most important feature is the ability of SaaS Backup to cover all modules proposed by Office 365, because competing solutions don't cover the total scope."
"It's a good solution. It's pretty stable."
"The most valuable feature is that it is simple to use."
"The solution is stable; I haven't experienced any bugs or glitches on it."

Cons

"The solution needs to improve its visibility. It's not straightforward to use. Understanding the policies, authorizations, and initializing features requires careful review. The product needs to offer proper training."
"When managing the firewall, it involves a Strata Cloud web browser that requires improvement to enhance deployment ease and call center efficiency."
"There are various reports that come with the box or with the VMware, but you can only run them daily."
"The current licensing model can be a sore point as we're paying for features we're not fully utilizing."
"It would be good if the common features work consistently in physical and virtual environments. There was an integration issue in the virtual deployment where it didn't report the interface counters, and we had to upgrade to the latest version, whereas the same thing has been working in the physical deployment for ages now. It seems that it was because of Azure. We were using VMware before, and we didn't have any such issues. We do see such small issues where we expect things to work, but they don't because of some incompatibilities. There also seems to be a limitation on how to do high availability in a virtualized environment. All features should be consistently available in physical and virtual environments. It is not always easy to integrate Palo Alto in the network management system. We would like to be able to compare two network management systems. They can maybe allow monitoring an interface through the GUI to create a reference or do a baseline check about whether your network monitoring system is actually giving you the correct traffic figures. You need traffic figures to be able to recognize the trends and plan the capacity."
"It would be helpful if we had a direct number for the support manager or the supporting engineer. That would be better than having to email every time because there would be less wait."
"Palo Alto is that it is really bad when it comes to technical support."
"Just sometimes it can be a bit sluggish navigating through pages. That is just purely because of Java."
"They should review the cost aspect of the subscription for Veritas Alta SaaS Protection because customers are going for the cheaper storage, which doesn't give those features in terms of dedup ratios."
"Technical support can be improved."
"The go-between is a Veritas partner, so the customer support was not that good. The solution is fine except when there is a purchasing crisis where you have to remake the ecosystem. It causes a lot of issues. The support was a problem, but we're okay with it as long as we have someone to communicate with."
"An area for improvement is the product's performance, especially how long it takes to do a job."
"Currently, it isn't possible to use anything other than Veritas cloud to back up to. I think today it's important to cover the three major cloud provider: GCP, Azure and AWS."
"The backup reports and the dashboard need improvement."
"When you finish a project, the client should have the opportunity to browse the files rather than simply ending the contract. Also, it's not possible to recover earlier versions. It should be possible to have a database for recovering files after you finish a contract. There's no solution for this from Veritas."
"Licensing has been a struggle. It went from bronze, silver to gold. Licensing needs more sophistication. It has features that are sold as separate add-ons."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Palo Alto can be as much as two times the price of competing products that have twice the capabilities."
"Initially, pricing was high. Later on, we were able to negotiate the pricing and get something that fits our budget."
"The product is costly but provides all essential security features. I rate the pricing a seven out of ten."
"The VM series is licensed annually."
"The pricing was expensive but it was comparable to the competition."
"The license fee is slightly high."
"It is an expensive product."
"Based on the customer budget, they can choose from 12-month, 36-month, or 60-month licensing models."
"SaaS Backup isn't the most expensive solution."
"The tool is expensive compared to Veeam."
"This solution is not cheap and not expensive but priced in the mid-range."
"I would rate this solution's pricing as five out of five."
"The program is quite expensive."
