Cloud gateway has strengthened remote web security and now needs better Mac and ISP support
The problem our organization had is that iboss failed for the Mac devices. It is not able to give a successful agent for the Mac agents. That is where in 2025, we had to migrate to the Palo Alto-based platform. If your use case is for just Windows laptops, you can consider this platform as an option One issue is the data center resiliency part. In India especially, they are not tied up with the Tier 1 ISPs like Tata or Airtel; they were having Tier 2 ISPs and encountered many issues reaching few major sites that my organization depends on, and they were having problems that they could not fix quickly. They also lack a mechanism to route that traffic within their data center; rather, they ask customers to make a pac file change to route it to Singapore explicitly. It would be better if they route from their backend , i mean even if I send it to India DC, they should be able to route it internally to make that work; however, they fail to do that and ask the customer to route it in the pac file. Another suggestion is that in China, they do not have the proper setup; they used to have numerous problems with slowness and lack of premium circuits in China as well. That leads to multiple sites working slowly with latency-related issues. So the main issue is the ISP-related problems that need to be solved.

Email defenses have reduced phishing risk and support strong compliance and user awareness
The improvement needed is not necessarily in the product itself, but rather around how other organizations have evolved. The DLP discussion is no longer limited to email; it has gone to border level with companies like Zscaler, Netskope, and Palo Alto giving the complete full-stack SASE setup. When somebody has a SASE setup, then Mimecast Advanced Email Security DLP might not even be needed at a point in time. Mimecast Advanced Email Security needs to improve in this area because they are only focusing on a particular set of problems which is on email and human risk, whereas companies that need a slightly bigger picture will look elsewhere. The second thing is when you buy an XDR provider, they give you a complete holistic story around it, showing what has happened, which email somebody has clicked on, whether there have been any changes, and whether there is any network activity. You get a holistic picture. When pushing Mimecast Advanced Email Security to end customers, people are more often saying that they would rather buy XDR from another provider because the story when an analyst sees is complete in terms of what they see, whereas they only get an email story from Mimecast Advanced Email Security. Mimecast Advanced Email Security has to improve there. Companies like Abnormal AI cover more on UEBA and user behavior, and there are many things for Mimecast Advanced Email Security to improve in this area as well. It is less of a technology issue; they are doing very well on email. The conversation for them to have is on how to get into a broader level or how to get a tie-up to become a broader supplier. At least from a service provider landscape, I can say that.

A solid proxy appliance that works very quickly and is easy to set up
It is a normal proxy, but it is very fast. The appliance operating system is not a normal Linux Unix-based operating system. It has a special fileless operating system. Its best function is that it is very fast and has a caching function. It can be used as a forward and reverse proxy as well. The reverse proxy function is very good, and the solution can be integrated with DLP, content analyzer systems, and malware analyzer stems. Now, it has a brand new web-based graphical user interface, which is very good. Earlier, it had a Java-based GUI, which was not the best. Broadcom introduced a new web gateway, a new cloud-based web gateway called WSS.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The iboss solution gives me the ability to scan the traffic through all the ports, through all the 131,000 PCP and UDP ports, and with this ability, we have the granularity also for consults over social media and applications on mobile, and this is an advantage that the customers are looking for right now."
"I would definitely recommend iboss for web filtering purposes to other organizations or individuals."
"First of all, the security policies are essential. I do not have to rely solely on Active Directory for our users."
"iboss is among the few products providing inline filtering where no application is needed on the device. It operates on the network side and is not device-based. This feature was one of the main reasons why we stayed with them for so long."
"Content filtering is the most useful feature of iboss."
"The security aspect of the solution, particularly the malware behind it, is excellent."
"iboss is easy to use despite its complexity. Multiple engineers manage it, but it's significantly more straightforward to administer than traditional VPNs and web proxies."
"Its initial setup was straightforward."
"The solution is stable and reliable. There are no bugs or glitches, and it doesn't crash or freeze."
"The initial setup is very straightforward."
"It does a good job for us, and its admin console is easy to use."
"I have always found Mimecast to be very responsive; for example, if we see something come through, they address it and it helps to sort out the issues."
"It's good, it keeps the spam out."
"The most valuable feature is the DMARC Analyzer."
"Mimecast certainly helped my customers reduce phishing emails."
"URL inspection works pretty well."
"It is a normal proxy, but it is very fast."

Cons

"The solution could be stronger on the integration side and offer more cloud applications like G Suite or Oracle."
"The area I would like to see improvement in is the ability with in the reporter to navigate directly to the content the user is traversing. It is kind of there, but it's not perfect. Quite frequently, I receive links that lead me to pages with error messages."
"The problem our organization had is that iboss failed for the Mac devices; it is not able to give a successful agent for the Mac agents, and that is where in 2025 we had to migrate to the Palo Alto-based platform."
"One thing I would like to see differently with their Zero Trust platform is that some of the AI aspects related to high-risk activities have more false positives."
"Their on-premise hardware's network interface is capped at one gigabit, which is sort of a problem. If you stand a filter up where all traffic flows through that, according to them, in order to go above a gigabit, you have to have multiple devices, which in today's IT seems a little bit silly. They could easily put in an SFP port into their device that could accommodate 10 gigs or at least offer a box."
"For zero trust implementation, we encountered complexity issues, especially with a large infrastructure company ExxonMobil."
"It is stable, but due to growth, it can sometimes be less stable than wanted."
"Fold that in with the risk intelligence they're getting from all of the different subscriptions they are a part of. Now, these security companies subscribe to things like emerging threats, databases, etc. You can fold all this intelligence to decide what's happening on an endpoint. I would love to see them start moving into that space. That would compete directly with Microsoft. Maybe that's why they haven't. Having that ability native within the solution would be great. The other area in which I would love to see improvement is more detailed descriptions of why they block websites."
"Mimecast Email Security is somewhat expensive compared to the competition in the Indian market, and the local presence is lacking as they do not have a local representative currently."
"The interface and the documentation could be improved. They can also include some more training resources and content like video. While setting things up, I had to search for the information quite a bit. It took me time to find the correct way to do something. The information is there, but it is sort of all over the place. They can create a better help knowledge base or help portal. It retains your email for 45 days. They can maybe increase this duration."
"The installation is not so straightforward."
"Their support should be improved. They are notorious for sending you to knowledge-based articles rather than actually talking to you about the problem you're reporting."
"The detection rates are an area for improvement."
"From an administrative point of view, Mimecast is a little bit cumbersome and difficult. It's not something that the end-user can easily find navigate themselves."
"While it's quick and easy, the initial setup could be more user-friendly."
"I'd like to have better support from the product in the future."
"The pricing could be improved."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It is not expensive, and it is also not cheap. iboss is priced right in the sweet spot for the number of features it offers."
"It is expensive compared to one of its competitors."
"We have not priced the solution recently, but they were competitive with other vendors in the past."
"We had the cost of purchasing a new appliance along with the implementation and licensing costs. However, the following year, the cost of just licensing was similar to what was paid the previous year for a new appliance along with the implementation and licensing costs."
"The overall pricing for iboss is very competitive and transparent."
"It is probably in line with other solutions, but I do not deal with the financial side."
"The licensing costs are per-user for the product that you get with them."
"Two subscription options are currently offered: monthly and yearly. My suggestion is to opt for the yearly subscription as it can give some discount. The pricing isn't high as other cloud solutions are pricier than Microsoft's offerings."
"I'm always going to say the price needs to be lower, but it's reasonable."
"Compared to the other products in the market, it is neither cheap but nor very expensive. I would rate it somewhere in the middle, 5 out of 10."
"It's an expensive solution."
"The solution is expensive."
"The product has good pricing in terms of return on investment."
"The product price is moderate. I rate the pricing a five out of ten."
