Creating internal architecture content has become smoother but embedding linked diagrams still needs work
I'm not currently working with IBM, IBM Controller, or other IBM tools. I still do a little bit of work with my previous company, but it's very minor. I don't work with any software or solutions outside of personal productivity suites such as Microsoft Office and things of that nature. I use Microsoft suite, Exchange, Teams, and so on. Microsoft Office SharePoint Server is more accessible for the average user, but it lacks certain features that more advanced users would look for, making it seem unnecessarily complicated to do simple things or things one expects to be simple. I'm not directly involved in pricing and licensing, but I work closely with people who are, and my company has a third party to help manage licensing. I don't have the impression that Microsoft is regarded as particularly expensive. The product was licensed directly from Microsoft. I would give Microsoft Office SharePoint Server a rating of seven points on a scale from zero to ten, where ten is the best.

Flexible plans, stable, and scalable
I used another solution at the same time, which was far worse. The American company I worked for used a similar file-sharing solution called LeapFile, a secure file transfer service. Personally, I found Citrix ShareFile to be much better than LeapFile, which was quite clunky. I later used a solution called Egnyte, which my company used as its main file transfer solution, though I'm not sure if it's still in use. The company moved to Egnyte because it is more of an enterprise-level solution. Egnyte was expensive, but it worked. I believe Citrix ShareFile is aimed at smaller to medium-sized organizations, making it a more appropriate solution than Egnyte due to its pricing.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The feature that I value the most about Microsoft Office SharePoint Server is the ability to have multiple persons in a file at the same time, which was not possible when we started using computers."
"Enhanced user access management features fully integrated with Active Directory allowed us to gain the trust of the users and they use SharePoint to store and share all company digital content created by them."
"The most valuable feature is the "Alert Me", which provides the ability to set an alert when content is either added or changed and that the alerts can be either real-time or aggregated for the day or the week."
"From my partner perspective, the best advantages of Microsoft Office SharePoint Server are that it's easy to use, and we can easily communicate, share documents, and assign permissions to specific people."
"It's a very robust product."
"Using these features together, we converted our paper work to electronic digital data."
"I would recommend this product."
"The integration with security tools in Microsoft Office SharePoint Server is one of the significant pluses since it alerts the IT team if anyone tries to redirect an email, which is illegal for us."
"Easy to manage and fully secure."
"For a few hundred dollars a month, my entire organization (42 users) can effectively share unlimited files with external partners."
"We implement this solution at many customer sites which directly affects productivity and gives the customer a very flexible solution."
"We recommend ShareFile to any of our customers who are looking for file sharing capabilities because it's very compatible, flexible, easy to manage, with encryption and good security."
"This provides us with a secure way of sending tax returns without having to use passwords."
"It provided end users with a secure file-sharing option with which they can share big files."
"Citrix has a very good file auditing features and security features."
"The solution would query the Active Directory, and if new accounts were identified, Citrix ShareFile would add them automatically."

Cons

"Technical support could be improved. They are not fast enough, especially when we'll go deeper in the product itself. More complex issues make it very tough to find someone that can help you."
"The areas around security, such as protection, need to be included."
"The product could be improved by accommodating different technologies, particularly integration."
"Concerning technical support from Microsoft, I am not very satisfied with their support."
"The Microsoft support is not great."
"The Branding and User Interface Design and CK Editor should be improved, as well as the upgrade process."
"Sharepoint doesn't integrate well with Oracle, and we use a lot of Oracle products at our company. Therefore, it makes more sense for us to go to Oracle instead of continuing to use Sharepoint."
"The document management features of Microsoft Office SharePoint Server are not very good compared to OneDrive."
"The configuration on the mobile devices is a little clunky, in terms of setting up the application."
"Some of our customers are facing issues if they've deployed in hybrid mode."
"There are sometimes scalability issues after updates."
"Reporting features could be better Support could be better; we don't usually need it but I have read a number of complaints from users with more complex implementations (API use, AD integration) that have had issues."
"They should integrate the solution with more email services."
"Deployment by vendor was not done right. We were looking for a HA solution but it is not configured like that."
"Some of our customers are facing issues when sending files outside their company."
"The user interface is not very intuitive."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Pricing plans may be flexible depending on volume usage and your corporate relationship with Microsoft."
"It can be expensive for on-premises deployments, especially when you have to support SQL Server as your backend database. That's where the cost comes into play. SQL Server has its own licensing, which Microsoft keeps on changing. Therefore, it can become costly. In the earlier versions of SharePoint, version 2007 or 2010, they had an express version where the SQL Server licensing was free. It wasn't like a full-blown SharePoint. It was only a slimmed-down version. It used to be whatever your hardware costs. You would install the free software and work with it, but you were very limited in what you could do in SharePoint. If you wanted the SharePoint Enterprise Server with all the bells and whistles, then you had to pay more to get the SQL Server license based on the number of users or servers. The subscription model is different for cloud deployments. Licensing is per user and per month. The cost also depends on the storage required. If you have a lot of sites or documents, then you need to expand it based on your needs."
"There are some aggressive discounts offered by Microsoft for organizations that are not for profit, which we are, and it makes it quite attractive to consider."
"One of the reasons why we don't recommend the cloud version of SharePoint is the cost. With the on premise version, you pay for the license once. For the cloud version, there is a recurring fee. It is very expensive. They expect everyone to pay $20 or $30 per user per month."
"Citrix has a very good file auditing features and security features."
"You have to work hard in order to get the suitable licenses."
"If you are already a Citrix customer, I recommend having the Platinum licensing level, as it provides licensing for a number of various features that all integrate together."
"I give the cost of the solution a five out of five."
