Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The virtualization of Microsoft BI is very good.""In the process of using data there is the Extract, Transform and Load (ETL). For extracting we are using another software, for transforming we are using our own coding in C#, and then we use Microsoft BI for loading the information. Microsoft BI displays information very well.""The most valuable feature of Microsoft BI is its visualization and its ease of use.""We've used Microsoft BI for the general use cases around reporting and dashboarding.""I've seen no issues with BI's stability.""There are some great automation elements in the product.""I like having the ability to connect Excel files as data inputs.""The most interesting feature of Microsoft Power BI is that it's very user-friendly."

"The best part about this solution is how easy it is to mash up the data from many sources. Sisense is fast compared to other solutions.""This solution is easy to learn how to use.""The solution's technical support team is good.""We like that this solution allows us to use data cubes to set up specific visualizations."

Cons
"Power BI's administration could use some work, and the user experience needs to improve because it is a client-based tool. If you want to generate a model or report, you need to use client tools, but client tools are limited for end-users who don't have enough hardware. For example, maybe a client lacks enough memory or CPU power for report generators. If you use a model that requires a massive amount of data, your client will face several problems.""Microsoft should offer additional features for visualization and have additional features for slicing and dicing that data.""Microsoft has made a lot of progress with Power BI in the past couple of years, but there is still some room for improvement. For example, Integration is one area they could work on. They are adding more integration with other Microsoft tools, but I would like it if they sped up the process.""I have found using Microsoft BI is not easy. For example, trying to use the auto-refresh feature is not simple.""Microsoft BI lacks some of the scheme features. It would be beneficial if there were a way to show how we move values in a different way.""One of the more difficult things to do is to export some of the data from Power BI to Excel.""The Power Query feature needs to be improved to handle large amounts of data. This feature is also slow for large data transfers making it better to use some kind of script.""There are some other visuals that are available in the Microsoft marketplace, however, you need to use them via trial and error. There needs to be a write-up about how to use them with a quick guide describing the visual."

"I would like Sisense to improve its performance, particularly when we are dealing with large-scale data.""The solution's setup process could be easier.""This solution does not have tabs. In order to have tabs, you have to download an add-on to mimic the tabs. They should be integrated to improve the solution.""At present there are additional costs involved if we wish to share our data queues within this solution, which we would like to see removed."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "The solution is affordable."
  • "There are a few options available for purchasing a license. Typically the number of users you have will determine the price of the license. The more users you have the more you will pay."
  • "Power BI's price is reasonable, especially if you can put it in some bigger package and use it with other products. The value of a solution doesn't just come from its features as a standalone product. The price should also reflect how easy it's to set up, clean data, and integrate with other solutions."
  • "The premium capacity is very costly in respect of the market in Egypt, amounting to $5,000 monthly."
  • "Compared to others, I think it is reasonable."
  • "If it has to be applied on the cloud, then it costs around $10 per month per user. For a pro license and for a premium license it's around $20 per month per user. If it has to be applied on-premises then, depending on the course of your server, you have to buy a software assurance version of the database."
  • "Its price is very low. It is like $10 per user, per month. The clients pay for their own licenses. It is not on us. There are no costs in addition to the standard licensing fees. That's the beauty. With other systems, you need to spend a couple of thousand dollars just to get started, and then you need to spend $500 per year for the license, which becomes much more costly. You have a system here where for $120 to $140 a year, you can start with two people and start developing and deploying. You can see why the cost difference is huge, especially when you are on a low scale, like us, and you're not building something very huge."
  • "You don't need a license for development, but if you want to publish to external users, you need a license. The licensing is very costly, but I think that since the advantages and benefits of Power BI are so high, people are willing to pay. I can't blame them."

  • "This solution is more expensive than Tableau, Qlik and Dundas. It is an expensive tool. They charge $75,000 while Tableau is $45,000."

Microsoft BI stands out among its competitors for a number of reasons. Two major ones are its integration options and its data analytics capabilities.

Tariq R., an operations & BI analyst at American Hospital Dubai, writes, “Power BI is a complete ecosystem. It has an integrated ETL tool and good connectivity with applications such as Office 365 and SQL. Power BI supports the DAX and Power Query M languages. These languages are making Power BI very strong in data analytics, and you can do many types of analysis. ”
