Hybrid backup strategy has improved recovery orchestration and now supports flexible DR planning
I think improvements could be made in Commvault Cloud. Lately what I have seen is that there are AI capabilities that different data protection organizations are coming up with, which basically revolves around tiering of not frequently accessible data to glacier kind of storage, plus bringing in a high level of compression and deduplication capabilities. All those features I believe are there in other customers and they are bringing in new use cases from the AI perspective which I have not recently seen in Commvault. I have seen that Dell does have such features. We recently pitched a solution to the customers where we talked about data tiering and the other AI use cases, identifying the data by itself and autonomously taking decisions on how to tier the data between the different storage classes that we have. Those kind of capabilities that we have proposed to the customer as far as the partner solutions are concerned. I would like to see AI capabilities in Commvault Cloud. The rest of the features pretty much align with the other enterprise solutions that we have in the market. It is just the AI capability that is being asked by the customers as well as that I see missing with Commvault.

Simple and flexible backup solution
I mainly use Cloud Connect as a cloud backup repository Cloud Connect's best features are its simplicity, flexibility, and constantly-expanding options. I've been using Cloud Connect for about four years. We encountered some issues with stability at the beginning, but these were fixed after…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"We are very happy now with the technical support, as it is Indian."
"The deduplication in Commvault is great; we have 90-something percent savings using its deduplication technology."
"Cloud integration."
"The solution has provided our organization with a better security posture."
"From a real-life experience, I can say it cut down the time our customers spent on backup tasks by about 60 percent."
"Metallic helped me to restore the data within an hour, which is much faster than restoring from Microsoft services."
"We now have the capability to recover a virtual machine without relying on the NFS system, but instead are able to use certain features provided by Commvault."
"It is much more scalable and flexible than everything else in the market."
"Veeam Backup and Replication is still one of the most cost-effective backup solutions on the market and offers very good value for money."
"The stability and restore options on the solution are very good."
"Technical support is perfect, they are very helpful."
"I like this solution and recommend it to clients."
"For my needs, the solution offers everything I want."
"A really good feature is backing up the emails of the company."
"It's a great product because it's great scalability and it scales out from small to big companies perfectly."
"While there are some complexities, Veeam tries to keep the product simple and offers a good knowledge base. It's quite structured, so you can easily take one subject and learn about it simply by reading through the documentation."

Cons

"They need to improve when it comes to large, video file archiving. They're good, but they have not met my expectations as a customer in this area."
"Technical support is helpful but it can take one or two weeks to sort out issues."
"The initial setup is rather complex, especially when switching versions."
"It is supposed to be one of the least time-consuming solutions but in reality, it consumes 60% of their time."
"Commvault likes to be ahead of the game when it comes to merging with other platforms, but sometimes it's before they have the solution truly baked in. Office 365 is an example. I feel that my company might be a litmus test for their solution, because we have such a large environment. Some of the promised solutions that we received from Commvault were more like testing solutions. They weren't really validated, meaning they were possibilities. There have been a lot of hot fixes for the solution that we're using right now, more than we expected."
"Commvault likes to be ahead of the game when it comes to merging with other platforms, but sometimes it's before they have the solution truly baked in."
"Commvault has two management dashboards. The first is the CommCell Console, which is Java-based, and the second is Command Center. We don't always find all the features we need in the Command Center and we need to go through the Java console, and sometimes features are only on the Java console."
"Commvault is too expensive."
"The bandwidth optimization needs to be improved and have better efficiency so that you send fewer amounts of data from one site to the other."
"The solution could improve the stability."
"It would be helpful if the enterprise edition was more complete. It's not as complete as the enterprise plus edition is."
"It would be helpful if the enterprise edition was more complete. It's not as complete as the enterprise plus edition is. For instance, in the enterprise version, we can only use one accelerator with the cloud provider. It means if I have my Cloud Connect, I cannot connect another site of mine with another cloud connect and use an accelerator of Veeam. They should change this."
"The biggest thing that Cloud Connect needs is native deduplication."
"If a customer has a low budget, Veeam may be too expensive."
"The pricing is much higher than what our clients expect it to be."
"I also think the cost factor is a major issue for Veeam because it's a very expensive soluton especially when the client wants support for VMware."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The license is paid on an annual basis and the price is reasonable."
"In my experience, compared to solutions like Veritas and Veeam, while they do have their technical pluses and minuses, Commvault can save you on average forty percent initially, and then twenty to twenty-five percent annually."
"We work with Commvault and a partner on our environment needs according to capacity, licensing, pricing, components, modules, etc. Additional costs depend on your backup needs."
"Some of our customers say that Commvault is a very expensive solution, but Commvault has many features that the competitors don't have. It is not a good choice for a small or medium business, but it is a good choice for enterprise businesses."
"New licensing is easy and affordable."
"I rate the product’s pricing a five out of ten."
"Licensing fees are billed on a yearly basis."
"It is quite expensive when compared to other applications in the market. Its license is completely based on workload capacity. If I buy a license for 100 terabytes, I can back up anything. I can back up any platform, technology, or application, which is an advantage. Previously, we had to buy an agent for a particular application, and the cost was different for each agent. Now, the cost is completely based on the storage capacity. The license for one terabyte can cost around $1,700 for backing up anything from your environment."
"The price of the solution is reasonable because of our good standing with the vendor."
"We are looking into how we can extend the license of this product."
"The licensing fee is on a monthly basis."
"It's not the cheapest solution on the market but it's reliable, so we find it cost-effective."
"The pricing of Veeam Cloud Connect is good."
"I think that this is one of the most cost-effective solutions."
"The licensing is MSP-based. It is connected to the portal, and you can deploy it to your end users as well."
"The price of the solution could be cheaper. There are monthly or yearly subscription options available. The annual subscription tends to be cheaper."
