Managing application health has become simpler but new monitoring features still need faster delivery
I use application discovery and dependency mapping. It helps with managing application health What I like about ManageEngine Applications Manager is the ease of use and ease of deployment. I cannot remember anything specific for future updates of the product. The new features take a lot of time…

Alerting precision has reduced incident response times and improved department-level network visibility
The auto-pause sensor during the maintenance window is good without any false alerts, and it prevents me from getting flooded with alerts during planned maintenance, helping department heads understand their own network usage better. It has reduced incident response time by giving clearer ownership of each alert, ensuring alerts go to the proper recipient. SNMP testers and auto-pause are among the best features of PRTG Network Monitor, which is particularly useful for different departments such as HR and finance, where alerts can be filtered accordingly. The alerting features and dashboard of PRTG Network Monitor are very helpful, especially in our industry. However, the dashboard can look cluttered on smaller screens, which is one negative aspect. PRTG Network Monitor has impacted us positively; we have stopped getting flooded with alerts during planned maintenance or unplanned outages. Compared to others, this gives specific alerts very quickly and helps department heads understand their own network usage better, thus reducing incident response time so that each alert has clear ownership.

Quotes from Members

Pros

"We do not have pricing constraints as an organization, because we do have reservations about ManageEngine being functionally scalable."
"We have a very good and long relationship with ManageEngine support guys, and they provide very good support for us."
"Its price and the flexibility to deploy are the most valuable. Flexibility is very important, and you can scale from very basic to more complex. This solution is a part of a complete suite of management tools. So, it can be integrated with other solutions for monitoring networks, which is very important. You can expand it or interconnect it with many other tools, which is a powerful feature. We have a very good and long relationship with ManageEngine support guys. They provide very good support for us."
"Applications Manager helps businesses ensure their revenue-critical applications meet end user expectations."
"I used it extensively for a year, and prior to that, I was very comfortable."
"The most valuable feature of this solution is its ease of use."
"I am impressed with the tool's reporting feature which is simple."
"What I like about ManageEngine Applications Manager is the ease of use and ease of deployment."
"The Slack integration is fantastic, and I've actually found it to be very useful recently."
"We are using the basic PRTG that we can download for free, and PRTG is much cheaper than SolarWinds."
"PRTG Network Monitor offers a single-pane dashboard where we can monitor all the servers on one single screen, helping our team detect a failed server quickly and saving time that was previously spent checking each server manually, which in turn also reduces downtime."
"The most valuable feature of PRTG Network Monitor is the different monitoring probes available."
"For others who are interested in using this solution, I would recommend it; please use it, it's good, it's very friendly, easy to use, and it's web-based, which means you don't have to be logged into a server to get something done."
"The most valuable feature of PRTG Network Monitor is the dashboards. We can check to see the resources and the uptime."
"PRTG is simple to manage. First, you can create a template for a device, then apply it to hundreds of similar devices. That's a great advantage."
"As far as network monitoring and analysis, I cannot think of a more intuitive and flexible product on the market today."

Cons

"An area for improvement in ManageEngine Applications Manager is artificial intelligence. If AI is integrated into the solution, it'll be a piece of cake. Currently, it's all configured manually."
"The problem is that implementation requires a significant amount of mapping effort."
"The agent often crashes when there is too much load on the application side. If a sudden storm of data comes in, the agent crashes down most of the time."
"They could probably rearrange the UI so that it would be easy for people who are new to the Application Manager to configure things."
"The dashboards in the interface need a lot of work."
"The information provided by ManageEngine is not deep-dive like IBM and CA provide."
"I would say that the implementation of ManageEngine Applications Manager is too detailed. You need some training to effectually use it."
"Even with the top-notch dashboard, it could be made stronger with an additional plug-in for analytics."
"I am not sure the solution is giving me all the needed feedback that we need. When something goes off on our IT infrastructure, it does tell me. However, it would be nice if it gave more intuitive information, e.g., the hard drive has gone up by 60 percent in an hour."
"The remote probes seem to be a little bit buggy at times. They just stop working or they say they can't communicate."
"The technical support needs some improvement. The response time is slow, we normally get a response the next business day for urgent issues which is long time."
"I would like to see Office 365 monitoring. Essentially, it doesn't do it. I assumed not at all, but apparently it does it slightly. However, due to issues with APIs, they currently don't provide full monitoring for O365."
"PRTG's application monitoring sensor is not strong."
"For smaller networks, I would recommend this solution. That said, if the network is complex, I would recommend a company evaluates another product instead."
"Integration into service management ticketing systems could be better. They should simplify the integration into big service management platforms like ServiceNow, Remedy, and Cherwell."
"PRTG could use reporting tools and mobile alert tools. It should be easier to diagnose and respond to problems from a mobile device on the go."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The annual licensing depends on the number of monitors you have connected. Once you get to two hundred monitors you can see the price reflect."
"The solution's licensing costs are yearly."
"The licensing costs for ManageEngine Applications Manager are around $1,200 per year. For additional monitors, you have to pay extra."
"ManageEngine Applications Manager has reasonable pricing. It's more affordable than other solutions in the market. My company has an instance-based license for ManageEngine Applications Manager. You can purchase a yearly subscription or a perpetual license. The standard license covers most features, but you can still have some paid add-ons."
"Price-wise, it is a cheap tool...The solution's licensing model is subscription-based, in which yearly payments are to be made."
"Its price is good."
"The solution is noted for its cost-effectiveness, a crucial consideration for potential users."
"It is a cost-effective solution."
"We have an unlimited perpetual license, so we just pay support costs and it can scale throughout the organization."
"We pay for a perpetual license and we have a support fee."
"The licensing fees are billed annually and there are no costs in addition to this."
"PRTG Network Monitor is very expensive."
"Right now, the smallest sensor pack that they have is just a bit out of range for me, as a business. This kills me, as I need the product. Therefore, there is always a balance between needing to buy it or continuing their free version."
"Our licensing costs are 10,000 euros over three years."
"We pay nothing for it. Its 100 sensors have allowed us to put a magnifying glass on some systems, providing an extra layer of detail. Therefore, our outgoing is nothing and our incoming is a lot of useful data that we can react to proactively."
"If you are not too sure about it, try the free version. Then, if you like it, you can go to the paid version and roll it out."
