Has many predefined correlation rules and is brilliant for investigation and log analysis
It is very complicated to write your own correlation rules without the help of Splunk support. What Splunk could do better is to create an API to the standard SIEM tools, such as Microsoft Sentinel. The idea would be to make it less painful. In ELK Stack, Kibana is the query language with which you can search log files. I believe Splunk has also a query language in which they search their log files, but once you have identified the log file that you want to use for further security correlation, you want to very quickly transport that into your SIEM tool, such as Microsoft Sentinel. That is something that Splunk could make a little bit less painful because it is a lot of effort to find that log file and forward it. An API with Microsoft Sentinel or a similar SIEM tool would be a good idea.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"What I like most about ManageEngine Applications Manager is its price point, apart from its technicalities. The solution is cheaper than its competitors. ManageEngine Applications Manager has helpful documentation that makes setting it up straightforward."
"The Service Level Management (SLM) rules engine stands out due to its flexibility and customization capabilities, making it an invaluable tool for tailoring processes to our specific needs."
"The most valuable feature of this solution is its ease of use."
"ManageEngine Applications Manager's installation is pretty easy."
"The most valuable feature is the ability to be able to monitor Kubernetes."
"We do not have pricing constraints as an organization, because we do have reservations about ManageEngine being functionally scalable."
"ITSM is a valuable feature, it complies with the requirements in Pakistan."
"The initial setup was straightforward, without complexity."
"The most valuable function is the notable events. When I joined the team, I asked them what they could currently see, and they said nothing. I was pretty shocked. I know for a fact that they're using Enterprise Security or at least they had purchased it. I told them that there are several dashboards within Splunk that we can leverage. There is also notable events where we can see potential incidents or potential alerts about the infrastructure and the network itself."
"I like the ease with which dashboards can be created."
"Splunk Enterprise Security is more advanced compared to other solutions, which makes it stand out as a better option."
"Splunk Enterprise Security has helped speed up our security investigations."
"Splunk helps us be more proactive. We can take predictive action to identify and block threats so that nothing harmful gets into the system."
"It is lovely to have everything we need in one tool. Everything is quite centralized."
"If properly built, I'm very impressed with the stability of Splunk ES."
"The most valuable feature of Splunk Enterprise Security is the comprehensive logging capabilities it provides."

Cons

"The problem is that implementation requires a significant amount of mapping effort."
"They could probably rearrange the UI so that it would be easy for people who are new to the Application Manager to configure things."
"The inventory of assets needs improvement."
"An area for improvement in ManageEngine Applications Manager is artificial intelligence. If AI is integrated into the solution, it'll be a piece of cake. Currently, it's all configured manually."
"The dashboards in the interface need a lot of work."
"Even with the top-notch dashboard, it could be made stronger in order to have an additional plug-in for analytics."
"The information provided by ManageEngine is not deep-dive like IBM and CA provide."
"I would like the solution to improve the ability to track services."
"The analytics of Splunk could be improved."
"Splunk Enterprise Security is great but can have some frustration points. It can sometimes be slower to use."
"We don't have SOAR products from Splunk. I believe that's an important piece."
"Splunk can improve regex/asset analysis as we do not want to crawl until it is done."
"Could be more user friendly."
"We can only increase the environment. For instance, with an ES server, we cannot make a cluster of ES. If you have two servers and want to make a cluster of these two servers for ES, that is not possible."
"Splunk Enterprise Security could improve in automation, flexibility, and providing more content out of the box."
"The main issue that I have with it is that the field transformations sometimes overlap with those in Splunk Enterprise, and then you get permissions issues that lead to troubles."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The solution's licensing costs are yearly."
"The solution is noted for its cost-effectiveness, a crucial consideration for potential users."
"ManageEngine Applications Manager has reasonable pricing. It's more affordable than other solutions in the market. My company has an instance-based license for ManageEngine Applications Manager. You can purchase a yearly subscription or a perpetual license. The standard license covers most features, but you can still have some paid add-ons."
"Price-wise, it is a cheap tool...The solution's licensing model is subscription-based, in which yearly payments are to be made."
"The cost of this solution is not too bad, although it could be cheaper considering what you're getting for the price."
"It is a cost-effective solution."
"Its price is good."
"The annual licensing depends on the number of monitors you have connected. Once you get to two hundred monitors you can see the price reflect."
"The licensing model can be expensive, but the value it provides is significant."
"While Splunk offers generous developer licenses and obtaining annual licenses is straightforward, the cost is a major consideration."
"Splunk Enterprise Security is an expensive solution."
"Expensive compared to other options."
"Splunk Enterprise Security is a bit expensive overall, but it provides good value."
"The pricing model is expensive and a nightmare based on the amount of data."
"Splunk Enterprise Security is expensive."
