Managing application health has become simpler but new monitoring features still need faster delivery
I use application discovery and dependency mapping. It helps with managing application health What I like about ManageEngine Applications Manager is the ease of use and ease of deployment. I cannot remember anything specific for future updates of the product. The new features take a lot of time…

Helps us detect cyber threats quickly and integrate multiple feeds effectively
Overall, the product is good, but when it comes to some infrastructure issues, we have to dig into more logs. There is no straightforward indication of an issue. Health check kind of dashboards are not available. More AI would help us, and more optimization, since security products run more queries. The AI module could suggest solutions, optimizing queries or workload balancing. If the product itself advises on running queries during peak times, it would be similar to what ChatGPT currently offers. We see quite a few issues on stability. Even last week, we faced something, and identifying bottlenecks is not easy. We need more SMEs, and there is no mechanism to tell us about indexer or search head issues. Self-monitoring dashboards could be beneficial. The technical support still requires more improvement. Often, primary support takes a lot of time and forwards most solutions to the engineering side. The primary support team has very limited knowledge to provide.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The features on the dashboard of ManageEngine Application Manager are much better than these other solutions, and I found that those solutions can be quite costly in comparison."
"ITSM is a valuable feature, it complies with the requirements in Pakistan."
"The most valuable feature is the ability to be able to monitor Kubernetes."
"ManageEngine Applications Manager maintains the historical data and it's easy for us to analyze the trends and patterns and fix them accordingly."
"Depending on the size of the environment, this is a solution that I recommend."
"For a small organization, I think ManageEngine is pretty nice, I think it's enough."
"The feature that I have found most valuable in ManageEngine Applications Manager is its dashboard."
"We do not have pricing constraints as an organization, because we do have reservations about ManageEngine being functionally scalable."
"The initial deployment was straightforward."
"The biggest advantage I can see in Splunk Enterprise Security is the big data analytics."
"I appreciate the integrations with the SOAR architectures and the expandability that can be used throughout the entire ecosystem of Splunk Enterprise Security."
"Splunk has provided a venue for us to determine student engagement during COVID, for which we didn't really have any other way except by looking at data that we captured off of our student systems and our authentication servers to see who's logging in, and who's logging out, and for how long they've been logged in."
"The stability of Splunk Enterprise Security is very impressive; it is a very stable product."
"Splunk may be more costly upfront, but in the long run, it saves on time and man-hours."
"Splunk Enterprise Security has helped greatly improve the organization's business resilience."
"The feature I appreciate the most about Splunk Enterprise Security is the CIM data model, which allows users to bring in data from different technologies, such as firewalls, endpoints, and perimeter DMZs, enabling every device to pump data into Splunk Enterprise Security, with the data model normalizing all the data and placing it in a common plane."

Cons

"They can improve the post-processing of the data. AppDynamics has more powerful tools for post-processing or analytics. It has some limitations in more complex environments, but because we are free to use different solutions, we try to find what is best for the customers or the problem we are trying to solve."
"It can’t be configured to store APM Insight data for more than one month."
"Technical support can be problematic. They usually support us from India, but because of compliance requirements, that is not an acceptable support solution in Pakistan."
"My suggestion for improving this feature is to also monitor the end-user experience for application clients and servers."
"I assess the impact of real-user monitoring of this product on my application's performance as not good. I am not satisfied with monitoring."
"Even with the top-notch dashboard, it could be made stronger in order to have an additional plug-in for analytics."
"Lacks an SIEM solution which can be found in other products."
"The inventory of assets needs improvement."
"My organization does not completely utilize risk-based alerting in Splunk Enterprise Security as it's not fully mature."
"It does not give us permission to implement on-premise so we implement them on the cloud."
"Sometimes the communication with support happens with multiple staff. They should reduce the time to resolution."
"Splunk does not provide any default threat intelligence like Microsoft Sentinel, but you can integrate any third-party threat intelligence with Splunk. By default, no threat intelligence suite is there, whereas, with IBM QRadar or Microsoft Sentinel, the default feature of threat intelligence is there. It is free. If Splunk can provide a default threat intelligence suite, it would be better."
"Splunk solutions are much more expensive than others."
"The main dislikes about Splunk Enterprise Security are that we need more highly skilled people and the license for Splunk Enterprise Security is costly."
"Technical support needs to be more responsive."
"Due to the size limit, we could not see the full product."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Its price is good."
"The solution is noted for its cost-effectiveness, a crucial consideration for potential users."
"The solution's licensing costs are yearly."
"The annual licensing depends on the number of monitors you have connected. Once you get to two hundred monitors you can see the price reflect."
"The licensing costs for ManageEngine Applications Manager are around $1,200 per year. For additional monitors, you have to pay extra."
"Price-wise, it is a cheap tool...The solution's licensing model is subscription-based, in which yearly payments are to be made."

"It is a cost-effective solution."
"The price of Splunk is reasonable."
"From what I have seen so far, Splunk has multiple cost models. The one that we are using is pretty good when it comes to ingesting data into the environment. It has worked out pretty well."
"While Splunk is more expensive than other solutions, we would still choose it because of its capabilities."
"Splunk Enterprise Security is priced lower than competitors."
