Identity workflows have delivered strong governance but remain complex to install and customize
I would describe the installation of Oracle Identity Governance on-premises as quite complex. Very complex. To install the product, it took us maybe three or four days to get it up and running just to go through the installation procedures. I repeated the same exercise in 2017 because I also migrated from 11c to 12c. That was the migration in 2017 that I managed. The migration took a long time. It took two to three years to be able to literally migrate all the code that I had. So it was quite complex. To summarize it quickly, I would describe the product as complete, very powerful, and very capable. However, it is extremely complex because Oracle relies on their own framework to customize and develop and fine-tune the functionalities. It is not Java, it is not some public framework. It is Java-based more or less, but it has their own Oracle framework for development and that makes the product quite complex to harness.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It has improved our organization because it is fast, accurate, and easy to maintain."
"It helps provision the required accesses through policies, approvals, and whatever would be the business requirement."
"Stability and scalability are very good."
"Oracle Identity Governance is a very complete product."
"Understanding what a customer is using, what they are looking for, and allowing permissions is a challenge. We use the information we get in order to understand the behavior of the customer beyond the security and to understand what they have been doing in the last month. It's a nice way to understand what is attracting the customer and what they are clicking. That could be implemented by using this kind of application."
"We moved to this solution because of its cost."
"What I like most about Oracle Identity Governance is that it is a very flexible tool. It allows you to do any customization on Java as it is built on Java and you can write any customization code using Java. I also like that Oracle Identity Governance is pretty much stable. In my company, there are a lot of users, so my company prefers this solution."
"The provision and deprovisioning means its more secure, less administration is required, and all the information about an identity is stored in one place."
"Automated Provisioning to applications has removed the effort required to manually create accounts in applications, which increases our productivity."

Cons

"One item I would like to see improved is the ability to clean the deeper parts of the machine with simplicity."
"There were issues when we deployed it, though Oracle helped us resolve them."
"The Design console is a bit dated and complicated to use when in development."
"Getting the initial OIM product up and running in the lab was complex for first timers as well as understanding whether to use the adapter factory or if we could use an existing pre-configured connector."
"Our issues with the solution have to do with the integration with different applications. It's not easy to connect ICAO to this kind of product. It would be better to work on the extensions of the adapters for this kind of identity management solution in order to not put in the code in the product."
"It responds fast but because of the bugs we have already had some major incidents and complete unavailability."
"The implementation process for Oracle Identity Governance is also a bit more complex than how you implement competitor products, and this is another area for improvement in the solution."
"UI customization is still a challenge as it requires a lot of effort to develop."
"Oracle Identity Governance is complex and heavy from an implementation perspective."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The machine costs around five hundred thousand dollars."
"I can't say much about the pricing for Oracle Identity Governance because it's different from one geography to another. In India, the license price costs less than in other geographies."
"I do not know specific pricing but the product is expensive when compared to other OIM products."
"Oracle licenses are expensive. I suggest making pricing and licensing decisions that align with architectural requirements and the project's budget."
"Price-wise, the tool is a little bit costly."
"The price is based on the number of users per year."
"The licensing is expensive."
"The price of the implementation of Oracle Identity Governance is more of a concern than the cost of the solution. The effort that you have to do to put the solution in place is higher than the license cost."
"Oracle Identity Governance is an expensive solution."
