Have seen support quality decline while still relying on long-standing data transformation features
I would assess the tool's error handling and logging features as part of it involves having a sampling thing. Depending on the definition of who's doing this, I used to work at a university where we looked at students who registered, and there were people who could register without specifying their gender. Most people know their gender. Some people would not put their birth date, so their date of birth was the default century. In 1989, we had hundreds of 89-year-olds because it was noted as 1900. What we would do is quickly assess that this is not reasonable; in a college setting, how many 89-year-olds are standing in line for freshman orientation? We could produce transformations on the fly. You can look at stuff, but ultimately, you need to go back to the data. There's logic involved; do you have to have a six-digit zip? Do you need the six plus four? It all depends on your criteria. It's doable, but it takes time, and if there's a lot of that, they usually hire people just to handle it. It's a tool that has its limitations; they haven't added wonderful features, and it's a GUI tool based on a desktop that you can run. Their manuals are pretty good, but we're not really using it actively, so I can't tell you everything right now.

Real-time data streaming has simplified transformations and kept enterprise databases synchronized
Oracle GoldenGate is good, but I would like to improve it. There is a need for whoever installs and configures Oracle GoldenGate to set the correct parameters for the use cases we need to use. In some cases, we had performance problems related to the streaming because there was a lot of information to stream concurrently. However, you can tune Oracle GoldenGate to use more RAM on the source side or more processes. I think that sometimes what is missing is knowledge about the tool from the person responsible for configuration. At this moment, Oracle GoldenGate is a very good tool, and I do not know in which area we can improve it. Perhaps the debug part of the tool could be improved. In some cases, I use the utility for how Oracle GoldenGate generates messages about the statements that it streams because of bugs, and in some cases, it is not very user-friendly. It may be possible to improve the API or the path related to debugging, but not the tool itself. The tool itself is good. I remember that in some configurations, we had problems with the streaming of DDL, which are changes to Oracle object structures such as tables and procedures. A new feature could be to perform streaming for operational objects such as procedures, functions, packages, or grants. This would synchronize source and target for these aspects, not only for data or the main types of structures, but also for others. I remember that there was some configuration in which you performed the streaming of the entire schema, or if you performed streaming for only tables, then you were unable to stream grants and other Oracle objects. I think it is important to introduce that capability.

"Oracle GoldenGate is beneficial for data replication and ensures secure data transport."
"It's very simple to configure, it's very simple to implement. In addition, the ability it has to capture data and transmit it with incredible speed is better than any of the product out there. It's extremely powerful."

Cons

"Their products work wonderfully during demos, but when we install them, they don't, and I end up following their manual only to find they forgot to mention something important."
"What needs improvement in Oracle GoldenGate is the support. Another feature that needs to be improved in the solution is its GUI. It would be useful for programmers or users to be able to work from the GUI, not just from the command line. Simplifying how Oracle GoldenGate is used would also make the solution better."
"We struggle with memory. It's limited. However, it may be because of our unique business case and how we use it that it's limiting for us."
"The solution is quite costly, and if they could reduce their pricing, it would be more economical to implement."
"It's stable but you have to know how to maintain it. That's why it's not 10 out of 10 for me. There are some bugs, there are some issues here and there. All of a sudden your process is not working and you have to figure out why, and sometimes it's not so clear."
"The main problem of Oracle GoldenGate is that sometimes, the processes get abended. Data consistency is also challenging."
"The problem with GoldenGate is it is very complex to use. You need heavyweight skills to use it."
"For Oracle GoldenGate, customers face challenges with patching, the latest updates, and encountering bugs."
"The product lacks some features and it's expensive."
