Automated lifecycle management has cut onboarding times and now drives secure, clean access
Although I am a fan of Okta Platform overall, there are areas where it could improve security outcomes and reduce admin friction. My top improvement areas include the system log and analytics upgrade, which are great for point troubleshooting, but trending and root cause analysis across large tenants still require exporting to SIEM. Verbose queries and long-range retention costs can add up. Additionally, while certificate rotations are better than most, the process is still manual for busy portfolios, especially concerning multi-SP SAML certificate rotations and app metadata drift. Two more buckets of potential improvements for Okta Platform involve user experience and security. There is the issue of push fatigue and prompt sprawl, where users receive multiple prompts across different apps and sessions. I arrived at the rating of eight because the core controls are strong and reliable, but a few operational UX and UI gaps prevent it from being rated higher. The reasons for not giving it a nine or ten include ongoing issues concerning safety and change safety, the complexity of group rules and mappings, and the lack of robustness in policy management. Additionally, there remains a need for more manual involvement than necessary, especially for large portfolios and dual certificate rotation, along with proactive SP data metadata validation.

Pros

"This product is highly recommended to meet access management and web single sign-on requirements."
"The Verify feature: A push method which customers are going for."
"Tivoli Access Manager (or IBM Security Access Manager) is a fully featured web authentication, sso and authorization product."
"It is a simple-to-deploy solution, with many features that are supported out-of-the-box without complicated setup."
"It is one of the best products in the present market in the area of access management."
"SAML 2.0."
"Provided more secure computing."
"OAuth 2 is now the de facto standard for API protection and scoped authorized delegation. IBM TAM now supports OAuth 2 and can act as fully compliant OAuth 2 authorization server."
"It is very seamless."
"Okta Customer Identity is a very good technology to work with, with a very knowledgeable support team."
"The most valuable features of Okta Workforce Identity are SSO, MFA, and beneficial feature sets."
"One of the features that I have found to be very valuable is its interoperability and compatibility with all types of resources, whether it's networking, infrastructure, or applications. That is, it is compatible as well as interoperable, as far as the federated authentication is concerned."
"My favorite aspect of Okta Platform is that it is really user-friendly."
"We have customers that use Okta Platform, and what they say about Okta Platform is that it's a standard of security, allowing them to integrate the solution to their applications."
"It is a very scalable solution."
"I can say it is more secure, more user-friendly, and integration with applications is easier."

Cons

"The initial set-up is a bit complex for a novice as the Linux version of it needs you to be somewhat good with Linux."
"I have not tested the stability yet."
"The license model is pretty complex."
"Redundant Policy servers had to be manually configured using LB."
"The whole product could be made into one suite instead of multiple components which are essentially a part of the same infrastructure."
"The profiling element is incredibly robust, but also equally as complex, it requires an off-site course to be able to understand the context or the plethora of options available."
"The pricing is always costly."
"There were endless issues with stability in version 8.0.1."
"The solution is very expensive."
"The solution lacks an on-premises deployment model so it can't offer a hybrid solution. It would be ideal if clients had options that weren't just cloud-based."
"You can't hide the device when you're checking logs."
"I arrived at the rating of eight because the core controls are strong and reliable, but a few operational UX and UI gaps prevent it from being rated higher."
"Okta Platform's pricing model can be expensive for smaller organizations, affecting user feature accessibility."
"It's not compatible with on-premises installations, unless you host it as a SaaS. We were not able to do that. For example, imagine a scenario where the cloud is not available. Then, Okta will not work for you. That use case will readily fail because it doesn't have an on-premises installation that you can use to authenticate or provide identity and access management. If you have a purely on-premises solution that is not connected to the internet, then this will not work. This is one area that can be improved."
"There were some outages, but I think they were fixed really quickly, so it was not a big deal for us."
"The solution can be quite expensive."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The IBM prices are, as ever, extortionate, even with a business partnership, and high levels of discounts."
"Okta Customer Identity is not an expensive solution."
"Okta has fairly competitive pricing."
"Price-wise, Okta Workforce Identity is a cheap solution. The overall cost depends on the license since you can negotiate with Okta or any of Okta's partners only if you opt for many licenses."
"The product's price is high. For each feature, a certain payment is required."
"It could be a bit too pricey for small companies. Okta Workforce Identity can add a lot of benefits, but smaller companies may not have a lot of applications that need to be managed by Okta Workforce Identity. In larger organizations, there are more departments, applications, and users to manage. Okta Workforce Identity adds a bit more value to those bigger organizations. In addition to standard licensing fees, there are also additional costs for things"
"The solution is not the cheapest but not the most expensive. They are in the middle rating."
"The solution’s pricing needs to be reasonable. You are dealing with a lot of components and the pricing is component-based."
"The solution's pricing model could be better for SMBs."
