Log analysis has become clearer and faster but visualization and extensibility still need work
The problem was with the complexity and the cost to add extensions. We found this very expensive to buy another version with additional features. I think that Graylog Enterprise does not have customizable dashboards. I did not see them in Graylog Enterprise because most of the time we used the open source free version, which is limited. I think Graylog Enterprise should improve some things that they have in the paid version and perhaps provide users with a menu that gives examples of parsing logs and draws graphics so that people do not need to improve another system such as Grafana. This would be interesting. When it comes to functionalities, I found the log management in Graylog Enterprise acceptable. It is very simple to use and to collect logs. It has support for different protocols and different ports, and the sidecar is easy to use. However, in visualization, I think it needs to be much better.

Centralized logs have improved troubleshooting and now reduce production incident impact
Logz.io can be improved by adding more AI-assisted root cause analysis and by improving log retention flexibility. They can also provide additional dashboard customization options. Logz.io is a very mature and grown platform with very good features. Most improvements should be around automation, AI-driven insights, and cost visibility. Because Logz.io is a very mature and grown platform that is very good, cost optimization can be made for higher costs related to higher log volumes. For larger organizations, custom dashboards can be improved. In terms of root cause analysis, there can be more AI-assisted root cause analysis capabilities.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It has data adapters and lookup tables that utilize HTTP calls to APIs."
"Real-time UDP/GELF logging and full text-based searching."
"The product does all the things it must do very well."
"Graylog is valuable because it bridges technical knowledge to non-technical teams, presenting complex backend processes in a simple timeline."
"The Graylog features that have proven to be most beneficial for our data analysis in particular are that we tend to use it as a big data store, so we have the correlation rules that, if something matches under certain conditions, it raises an alarm."
"The build is stable and requires little maintenance, even compared to some extremely expensive products."
"I am very proud of how very stable the solution is."
"The best feature of Graylog is the Elasticsearch integration. We can integrate and we can run filters, such as an event of interest, and those logs we can send to any SIEM tool or as an analytic. Additionally, there are clear and well-documented implementation instructions on their website to follow if needed."
"InsightOne is the main reason why we use LogMeIn. This is mostly because of log data that we are pushing tools and logs in general."
"We use the product for log collection and monitoring."
"The query mechanism for response codes and application health is valuable."
"Logz.io has impacted our organization very positively."
"Our team doesn't spend time setting up, managing, and tuning a logging platform, which frees them up to spend time on higher value pieces of work and allows our people to focus on the high-value business change work."
"The visualizations in Kibana are the most valuable feature; it's much more convenient to have a visualization of logs, and we can see status really clearly and very fast with just a couple of clicks."
"I can't imagine how I ever worked without it before."
"It is massively useful and great for testing. We can just go, find logs, and attach them easily. It has a very quick lookup. Whereas, before we would have to go, dig around, and find the server that the logs were connected to, then go to the server, download the log, and attach it. Now, we can just go straight to this solution, type in the log ID and server ID, and obtain the information that we want."

Cons

"When it comes to configuring the processing pipeline, writing the rules can be very tedious, especially since the documentation isn't extensive on how the functions provided for these rules work."
"The infrastructure cost is the main issue. I like the rest. If the infrastructure costs could be lower, it would be fantastic."
"I wouldn't recommend the enterprise version, but as an open source solution, it is solid and works really well."
"Graylog could improve the process of creating rules. We have to create them manually by doing parses and applying them. Other SIEM solutions have basic rules and you can create and get more events of interest."
"I would like to see some kind of visualization included in Graylog. The report is plain, they could be improved."
"The support from the Graylog community is helpful, but they can do better."
"More customization is always useful."
"The initial setup was really complex because I did it myself."
"I would like them to improve how they manage releases. Some of our integrations integrate specifically with set versions. Logz.io occasionally releases an update that might break that integration. On one occasion, we found out a little bit too late, then we had to roll it back."
"The solution needs to improve its data retention. It should be greater than seven days. The product needs to improve its documentation as well."
"When it comes to reducing our troubleshooting time, it depends. When there are no bugs in Logz.io, it reduces troubleshooting by 5 to 10 percent. When there are bugs, it increases our troubleshooting time by 200 percent or more."
"The price can be cheaper and they should have better monitoring."
"The solution needs to expand its access control and make it accessible through API."
"I would like granularity on alerting so we can get tentative alerts and major alerts, then break it down between the two, but they do have a lot of good alerting stuff in there already."
"Capacity planning could be a little bit of a struggle."
"The product needs improvement from a filtering perspective."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"I use the free version of Graylog."
"Graylog is a free open-source solution. The free version has a capacity limitation of 2 GB daily, if you want to go above this you have to purchase a license."
"Consider Enterprise support if you have atypical needs or setup requirements."
"It's open source and free. They have a paid version, but we never looked into that because we never needed the features of the paid version."
"If you want something that works and do not have the money for Splunk or QRadar, take Graylog."
"You get a lot out-of-the-box with the non-enterprise version, so give it a try first."
"Having paid official support is wise for projects."
"We're using the Community edition."
"The product's pricing is cheaper than other solutions."
"The product is a little expensive."
"The tool is an open source product."
"At the time it was set up, we thought Logz.io was very reasonable for what we were getting in terms of how much time and hosting costs it was saving us, because you don't have to run the servers for it anymore."
"You pay for what you need, and that is a good model. They are also quite happy to talk to you about your uses and your use case. They will even go as far as suggesting things that you don't need to do in order to save you money. At one point, I was quite surprised at how cheap it could be if we wanted it to be or how much they would help us manage our costs."
