PRTG Network Monitor and Elastic Observability compete in the network and infrastructure monitoring category. Elastic Observability appears to have the upper hand for complex environments due to its advanced features and scalability.
Features: PRTG Network Monitor offers rapid deployment, inexpensive licensing, and proactive alerting, making it ideal for diverse infrastructures with mobile and web app support. Elastic Observability provides advanced features like centralized logging, machine learning integration, and powerful search capabilities tailored for extensive data environments and complex deployments.
Room for Improvement: PRTG could improve its mapping and dashboard features, app monitoring, and SLA reporting capabilities. Elastic Observability needs enhancements in APM features, predictive analytics, and better asset discovery.
Ease of Deployment and Customer Service: PRTG provides flexible deployment in hybrid and cloud environments with responsive but regionally limited support. Elastic Observability offers seamless cloud integration and robust online resources with more localized support availability.
Pricing and ROI: PRTG is generally viewed as affordable, especially for simpler environments, though larger deployments may face high costs. Elastic Observability, while more expensive, delivers ROI through its comprehensive functionality and scalability, offering transparent pricing aligned with advanced user needs.
It provides accurate data for utilization, allowing us to monitor and optimize our investments in WAN connection capacity.
Elastic support really struggles in complex situations to resolve issues.
The setup process is well-documented, making it easy to deploy.
Tutorials are available so I can manage any issue with PRTG Network Monitor easily.
Elastic Observability seems to have a good scale-out capability.
Elastic Observability is easy in deployment in general for small scale, but when you deploy it at a really large scale, the complexity comes with the customizations.
What is not scalable for us is not on Elastic's side.
On a scale of one to ten, scalability is rated as 9.5.
PRTG Network Monitor has the ability to scale and add new devices.
You can install them in each network, even if they are not connected, and it works.
There are some bugs that come with each release, but they are keen always to build major versions and minor versions on time, including the CVE vulnerabilities to fix it.
It is very stable, and I would rate it ten out of ten based on my interaction with it.
Elastic Observability is really stable.
We haven't needed vendor support for the last three years, which demonstrates the product's stability.
For instance, if you have many error logs and want to create a rule with a custom query, such as triggering an alert for five errors in the last hour, all you need to do is open the AI bot, type this question, and it generates an Elastic query for you to use in your alert rules.
It lacked some capabilities when handling on-prem devices, like network observability, package flow analysis, and device performance data on the infrastructure side.
Some areas such as AI Ops still require data scientists to understand machine learning and AI, and it doesn't have a quick win with no-brainer use cases.
They need to improve application performance monitoring, error tracing mechanisms, and log management.
PRTG Network Monitor should provide syslog monitoring since it is not available at this time.
PRTG Network Monitor can sometimes be too detailed and cluttered at the beginning, making it heavy to use.
The license is reasonably priced, however, the VMs where we host the solution are extremely expensive, making the overall cost in the public cloud high.
Elastic Observability is cost-efficient and provides all features in the enterprise license without asset-based licensing.
Observability is actually cheaper compared to logs because you're not indexing huge blobs of text and trying to parse those.
Pricing is by the number of devices, not by sensor.
The prices are very high for PRTG Network Monitor.
It's not too high, nor too low, but it's reasonable.
The most valuable feature is the integrated platform that allows customers to start from observability and expand into other areas like security, EDR solutions, etc.
the most valued feature of Elastic is its log analytics capabilities.
All the features that we use, such as monitoring, dashboarding, reporting, the possibility of alerting, and the way we index the data, are important.
PRTG Network Monitor already provided me with 100 free sensors, which is enough for my network monitoring.
PRTG Network Monitor is easy to set up. Within a few minutes, it is operational.
It is advantageous because it can be deployed on-premises.

What are the most important features of Elastic Observability?Elastic Observability is employed across industries for critical operations, such as in finance for transaction monitoring, in healthcare for secure data management, and in technology for optimizing application performance. Its data-driven approach aids efficient event tracing, supporting diverse industry requirements.
PRTG Network Monitor runs on a Windows machine within your network, collecting various statistics from the machines, software, and devices which you designate. PRTG comes with an easy-to-use web interface with point-and-click configuration. You can easily share data from it with non-technical colleagues and customers, including via live graphs and custom reports. This will let you plan for network expansion, see what applications are using most of your connection, and make sure that no one is hogging the entire network just to torrent videos.
To monitor a large IT environment, it's important to be able to scale PRTG up. Paessler PRTG Enterprise Monitor includes all the proven capabilities of PRTG Network Monitor, which are enhanced by exclusive ITOps Board for a service-oriented, central overview of multiple PRTG servers.
