We performed a comparison between Dell SC Series, Hitachi Universal Storage VM [EOL], and VMAX [EOL] based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out what your peers are saying about Hitachi Vantara, IBM, Dell Technologies and others in Frame-Based Disk Arrays."Its leading feature is the price-performance ratio, which is very good."
"The product offers good performance and is quite powerful."
"The Dell support is helpful and the response is quick. The agents' knowledge is very good."
"The solution is stable; we've had no problems at all."
"A valuable feature is the performance of the auto-tiering. It will move hot data up to your fastest Tier 1 or move your slow data down. Data progression is what it's called. With the auto-tiering you can have multiple tiers, you can have your Tier 1 be either spinning or flash, all the way down to 7.2K. It will change the RAID on the fly so your writes come in at RAID 10. After they sit for a while, they get converted to RAID 5, then they'll cool off and move down the tiers. Your performance is kept going, while the cold data is moved to your slow, non-performance tiers."
"Easy management of volumes: You can create volumes and easily assign them to VMware clusters, increasing their size."
"Connecting it up, you can run it within a few hours."
"I find this version to be more budget-friendly compared to products from other vendors. This aspect greatly benefits my customers. It's highly advantageous due to its affordability. The operational aspect is also noteworthy. Additionally, its availability and performance are commendable. The speaker are also equally powerful."
"The most valuable features are simplified provisioning and management, de-duplication, and built-in encryption."
"We have never had a bad experience with it because we never had failures. It has good data availability and the performance is also okay."
"We have been able to present storage from the VMAX to hosts without any problems."
"VMAX3 is our main system for storage. All our systems and all our virtualizations are connected to it. In terms of expanding it, we are replacing it with a new system, the PowerMax 2000. So our current VMAX3 platform will be decommissioned soon. We are switching to PowerMax 2000 because we are looking for improved performance. We see it as the best fit for our requirements in terms of the performance and the overall cost."
"A rock solid foundation to deploy applications which cannot incur a disruption of service."
"This solution is resilient."
"It works with our replication technology, which is not SRDF, which is native replication technology."
"The interface is good, and it is also customizable."
"Deploying, Expanding, and Modifying systems are easier than ever."
"I would like to improve the processing ability."
"The configuration could be easier in Dell EMC SC Series."
"While the scalability is good, there are certain limitations."
"The initial setup is somewhat complex and should be made simpler to do."
"I would like to see higher compression, dedupe, faster I/O, and bigger drives."
"It would be helpful if the solution offered higher performance, at least on the back end."
"Overall, I'd like to see more synergy between Dell EMC's higher-tier platforms and their mid-tier platforms. What I have said, constantly, to my partners at Dell EMC is that the clear articulation of the path is really important to us. In that vein, what I'd also like to see is, with the migration strategy that's built into this product, a lot more attention paid to Dell's - in particular - legacy platforms and how we get from some of our legacy EMC platforms onto this platform with a straight-through migration and scaling strategy, not host-based migrations and not piecemeal... Dell EMC would do well to focus more on my ability to skip a generation, rather than having me take individual hops because I can't greenfield my way into a software-defined data center fast enough. This journey of multiple hops is not helpful."
"Dell could improve the upgrading process."
"The exterior display needs to be improved."
"The way you configure larger size volumes needs improvement."
"I'd like to see improvements where we can scale out an existing array and remove older controllers\drives\etc., within the same subsystem."
"Better speed to release new features that have become industry standards. EMC created so many standards in the past. Now, it seems they are playing a me-too game and lagging behind in some areas, specifically data reduction."
"I would like to see support for high-availability."
"Resilience replication, reporting, and performance need to be improved."
"I would like this solution to integrate the solution that EMC vPlex offers."
"The cluster support should be improved."
"The pricing is a bit expensive. That is the reason we are now currently we are looking for other solutions. That's the reason we are looking at AFF and Unity. We are also considering PowerStore."
