It enables data governance with customizable workflows and effective customer support
There is an issue with Collibra Catalog's pricing model, especially for organizations with many databases, as the initial package comes with a limited number of connectors. This can lead to manual efforts to connect more databases, increasing costs. It would be beneficial if they offered more connectors as part of the initial package.

Easy matching and reconciliation of data
The initial setup was easy for the data warehousing concept. But for a person who is new to ETL and warehousing concepts, it may take some time. If someone is familiar with these concepts, they could understand and learn the tool quickly. However, compared to other tools, the UI is complex. It would be helpful to have a better UI and documentation for new users. As of now, there is a challenge in learning the Compose tool for new users altogether. Qlik Compose was deployed on-premises. But the servers, like the SQL servers were maintained on the cloud—the managed instances.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Collibra's lineage is a very powerful feature. We have integrated Collibra with Azure and ADLS storage and we create lineage diagrams using the two tools."
"I like Collibra's flexibility. I like to be able to modify things for our own use. For example, we've chosen to use Collibra also as a knowledge management tool, even though it is not designed to be a knowledge management tool. That's the beauty of it. It can serve as a knowledge management tool by creating some custom assets specifically for knowledge management."
"The diagram showing the limits is absolutely magnificent."
"There is a good community setup around the solution that can provide insights."
"Workflow is very helpful and assessment are good features. I really like the structure of this solution and how it is compartmentalized."
"We determined what our strategic platform was going to be in terms of a data catalog; IGC just quite frankly wasn't anywhere in the realm of what Collibra could offer in comparison."
"The most valuable features of Collibra Governance are that it is user-friendly and easy to use."
"Collibra provides a good view of where my data is, the type of data we have across the landscape, how it's getting utilized, the quality in terms of correct calibration, and whether the integrity is uniform across the landscape."
"Qlik Compose is good enough. It is user-friendly and intuitive."
"One of the most valuable features of this tool is its automation capabilities, allowing us to design the warehouse in an automated manner. Additionally, we can generate Data Lifecycle Policies (DLP) reports and efficiently implement updates and best practices based on proven design patterns."
"It can scale."
"It's a stable solution."
"Qlik Compose is good enough; it is user-friendly and intuitive."
"One of the most valuable features was the ability to integrate multiple source systems that mainly used structured IDBMS versions."
"I have found it to be a very good, stable, and strong product."
"I like modeling and code generation. It has become a pretty handy tool because of its short ideation to delivery time. From the time you decide you are modeling a data warehouse, and once you finish the modeling, it generates all the code, generates all the tables. All you have to do is tick a few things, and you can produce a fully functional warehouse. I also like that they have added all the features I have asked for over four years."

Cons

"The connectors are not very sophisticated. They can do, for example, Informatica and Tableau, but the connectors themselves could be improved."
"There is an issue with Collibra Catalog's pricing model, especially for organizations with many databases, as the initial package comes with a limited number of connectors."
"Collibra Governance is expensive - I would rate its pricing as one out of five."
"One of the very key drawbacks is that automation for access provisioning is not available. If I discover a data set or data product in the marketplace and want to access the data, this feature doesn't exist at all."
"In terms of improvements, I would highlight a few points that could be enhanced in the Collibra Data Intelligence Platform."
"I rate scalability a six out of ten. There is some room for improvement in terms of scalability."
"Collibra Lineage could improve connectively. If they can offer more out-of-the-box connectors, which come as in a package compared to you having to go and buy a lot in the marketplace for certain specific connectors."
"There is room for improvement in the Collibra Data Catalog regarding data classification and categorization. It struggles to catalog all categories of data, particularly sensitive data on-prem, which GCP Data Catalog handles better."
"When processing data from certain tables with a large volume of data, we encounter significant delays. For instance, when dealing with around one million records, it typically takes three to four hours. To address this, I aim to implement performance improvements across all tables, ensuring swift processing similar to those that are currently complete within seconds. The performance issue primarily arises when we analyze the inserts and updates from the source, subsequently dropping the table. While new insertions are handled promptly, updates are processed slowly, leading to performance issues. Despite consulting our Qlik vendors, they were unable to pinpoint the exact cause of this occurrence. Consequently, I am seeking ways to optimize performance within Qlik Compose, specifically concerning updates."
"The solution has room for improvement in the ETL. They have an ETL, but when it comes to the monitoring portion, Qlik Compose doesn't provide a feature for monitoring."
"For more complex work, we are not using Qlik Compose because it cannot handle very high volumes at the moment. It needs the same batching capabilities that other ETL tools have. We can't batch the data into small chunks when transforming large amounts of data. It tries to do everything in one shot and that's where it fails."
"Qlik's ETL and data transformation could be better."
"There could be more customization options."
"I don't think Qlik can be used in a high-volume scenario. It didn't work for us."
"I believe that visual data flow management and the transformation function should be improved."
"It would be better if the first level of technical support were a bit more technically knowledgeable to solve the problem. I think they could also improve the injection of custom scripts. It is pretty difficult to add additional scripts. If the modeling doesn't give you what you want, and you want to change the script generated by the modeling, it is a bit more challenging than in most other products. It is very good with standard form type systems, but if you get a more complicated data paradigm, it tends to struggle with transforming that into a model."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Collibra provides you with a license based on the subscription model that you purchase."
"Collibra Governance is an expensive solution."
"The solution's pricing is moderate and not very expensive."
"There are different licenses available for Collibra Lineage based on what kind of access you want. If you want, for example, a read-only license they have different ones to pick from."
"It's expensive, especially for small companies."
"It is substantial, and we do pay yearly."
"There are different levels of licenses. For example, some users can only do read-only licenses, and others have the stewardship license where they can give access to users."
"I am not so much aware of price details. Initially, there was an add-on NuSoft license to use the DVC connector that NuSoft gives to create integrations, but Collibra is now phasing out of it slowly. Collibra is cutting ties with them is what we have been led to believe, and we have started developing on Spring Boot, which is open source."
"The price of the solution is expensive."
"On a scale of one to ten, where one is cheap, and ten is very expensive, I rate the solution a six."
"While they outperform Tableau, there's room for improvement in Qlik's pricing structures, especially for corporate clients like us."
