We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The most valuable features are its scalability and Amazon S3 compatibility because we can move back and forth with a hybrid cloud.""It is very durable and that is particularly important.""The cost was the main reason we chose to use this solution.""The tool has S3 capability. Its scalability is excellent. From a security and encryption perspective, the solution supports SSL encryption. It is a seamless solution offering data encryption, quality service, and security encryption."

"The access to our data is quicker and cheaper than it used to be in a traditional storage system.""It also provides a seamless and efficient solution for personal storage requirements, showcasing the versatility and scalability of my Virtual SAN configuration.""The features that I found most valuable are ease of use of the software that StarWind offers - with the first setup being a bit painful.""StarWind vSAN has allowed us to grow rapidly while still providing flexibility and reliability.""StarWind Virtual SAN offers high availability and data resilience features to prevent data loss if hardware fails.""The most important feature is the ability to experience the loss of one node or one storage device, and not lose the entire cluster.""User friendly interface and straight forward implementation.""It has allowed us to save a lot of time and money by letting us create a vSAN within a Windows VM on the environment it controls."

Cons
"Cloudian HyperStore needs to incorporate AI and predictive analysis. It would be helpful if the solution could analyze and predict how to manage data better. The end users should not have access to protected documents. They should be able to drop the documents. The capacity management dashboard can be better. We also want two-factor authentication using Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator as MFA. Hence, the user would access the console not just by logging in with a password and username but with third-party applications as well.""As it is an S3 solution with the same protocol as the one we have with AWS, having better integration with AWS will be beneficial.""It is a cloud-based environment and at times, it is not very simple to use."

"Perhaps more reporting features on the utilization, usage, and performance of the configured high-availability images and underlying physical disks would be helpful.""The reconnection of the attached drives upon a reboot could be improved.""We would like to see the documentation more fully developed.""I had issues locating the documentation that applied to my version of StarWind vSAN.""The number of different ways you can set it up can make it a little daunting.""They recommend RAID10 for HDD, which reduces the usable storage capacity.""I found that certain browsers are not fully compatible with the administration web access portal.""The GUI deserves a little love."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Our fees are approximately half a dollar per gigabyte."
  • "The solution is cheap."
  • More Cloudian HyperStore Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "The setup cost is very low. The pricing is great."
  • "We are happy with the price."
  • "The license is reusable. We can always rebuild it and apply the license. Then, boom, we get new servers, apply the license, and we're back up and running."
  • "The pricing is fine for the work that it does."
  • "When we did all the analysis for StarWind, it was approximately 20 percent less than any of the other solutions that we looked at."
  • "The scalability limitation for us is its licensing. At some point in the fairly near future, we will probably have to upgrade our license so we can store eight terabytes instead of four. We are currently at four terabytes, but we're starting to knock on the door of that capacity."
  • "The pricing is excellent. It will run on anything. You don't have to buy a $100,000 server, with hardware you don't need. You just pay for the license and you're good to go."
  • "The licensing is a bit weird. If you license the standard version of StarWind, it allows you four terabytes. Then, they have a pro version, but with the pro version, the only difference is it doubles the terabytes to eight."
