The features I use in Cisco Duo include Duo Pushes to confirm my identity to the device, and eventually as MFA security was increased, I actually had to use exchange passcodes. Sometimes, I have to go into the site and get into Cisco Duo to retrieve the passcode, and many of them have been two-factor, where the sites send a passcode that I have to enter into Cisco Duo. It has been more of the latter. I have not seen issues with lagging or crashing on Cisco Duo's end; it was usually on the client end, often because someone set up a bad upgrade or there were connection issues with the Cisco Duo cloud through the administrative site.

Valuable features include access request and certification. Application integration, reporting, and certification could be improved.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Cisco Duo has made us more secure. We've managed to stop some threats with it and keep our users and devices safe."
"The feature of Cisco Duo that I value the most is that it's easy to use; it monitors all our devices to ensure everything is updated before we're given access to those applications."
"All features of the solution are effective, Duo supports BYOD policies by allowing users to authenticate securely from their personal devices."
"The single pane of glass management is very important and it is part of the reason we went with Duo, and anything we can do to save time for our administrators, help desk staff, and engineers, is valuable to us."
"Since Duo Security provides a single place to log in for our SaaS applications, we don't have to manage user accounts and remember passwords for each specific application."
"Cisco Duo seems very scalable; in my experience, I started with a small-medium business, and in my last contracting position, it was a large one for a major worldwide airline that had hundreds of thousands of devices that could use Cisco Duo, and it scaled very well."
"It's fast; the whole process takes less time compared to other tools we've used before, which is very helpful."
"The authentication process is very smooth and secure."
"For v8.4, you can work easily if you stick to OOTB, however, should you require customization, then the tool is very flexible using SQL/VB knowledge to extend."
"The self-service functionality for password/access management reduced our need for manual intervention."

Cons

"Compared to other vendors, Cisco Duo is on the pricey end."
"One downside of Cisco Duo is the expense, as there are clients that can afford only the basic package, which does not include Geo-fencing, leaving them unable to pay for the more expensive level, which I do not feel justifies the double price of that upper tier version."
"The only thing I can think of to improve for tech support is to have a dedicated engineer but then I would get an engineer that has priorities in one area or another and maybe not the scope I need."
"For upgrades, there should be a better notification of when they're coming out. We always have a testing phase, so we need to be ahead of it. It takes us longer before we can upgrade to the newest version."
"The technical engineers in the first line of support should improve their knowledge."
"Cisco Duo is definitely not doing things that others are not doing, so there is no unique selling proposition."
"Duo Security should have more customized use cases. For example, if a client needs to have more customization, it would be better to connect directly with Duo's R&D to try to discuss the issues together in order to add customizations."
"When you come to the push in Duo Security, there are some integrations where you have to use the code instead of the push functionality."
"Stability was a constant concern. The application was plagued with memory leak issues from initial installation and through multiple major/minor version upgrades."
"Moving from v7.x to v8.x is not easy. You need Courion expertise and skills to upgrade and migrate the data."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Cisco's licensing is always a bit complicated to understand, but the price is fair. It could be more expensive than others, but the way they integrate everything, it has a fair price."
"I only need the solution for IT staff, which makes it relatively cheap. If I deployed it for the whole company, it would be costly, so it depends on the number of users. Duo Security is affordable compared to other products in the segment."
"Duo Security's pricing is good, fair, and very comparable to today's market."
"From a reseller perspective, it's still challenging to explain the whole license strategy to a client, so we really have to be ahead of that for all the true forward conversations."
"I haven't seen it in a while, but it's at par with everything else licensing-wise."
"The pricing was a lot more than what we were paying for our previous solution."
"Overall, the pricing is fair. Customers can wrap it into their Enterprise Agreement, making it easier for them to solve their issues."
"Our licensing fee is currently on an annual basis."
