Identity workflows have delivered strong governance but remain complex to install and customize
I would describe the installation of Oracle Identity Governance on-premises as quite complex. Very complex. To install the product, it took us maybe three or four days to get it up and running just to go through the installation procedures. I repeated the same exercise in 2017 because I also migrated from 11c to 12c. That was the migration in 2017 that I managed. The migration took a long time. It took two to three years to be able to literally migrate all the code that I had. So it was quite complex. To summarize it quickly, I would describe the product as complete, very powerful, and very capable. However, it is extremely complex because Oracle relies on their own framework to customize and develop and fine-tune the functionalities. It is not Java, it is not some public framework. It is Java-based more or less, but it has their own Oracle framework for development and that makes the product quite complex to harness.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"What I like most about Oracle Identity Governance is that it is a very flexible tool. It allows you to do any customization on Java as it is built on Java and you can write any customization code using Java. I also like that Oracle Identity Governance is pretty much stable. In my company, there are a lot of users, so my company prefers this solution."
"Customer Identity Management is a challenge that we are working on in our company and I think it's the star of the Identity Management space."
"There are two valuable features. One, I am able to request any access rights I need. I don't even need to talk to my manager. I just request, and he can see the request and approve or reject it and give a reason. It's all very clear."
"It brings centralized management of all the identities for the E-Business Suite; that's the central feature."
"We have used this product to automate our manual business processes, like onboarding and other processes."
"Apparently, it seems like it's meeting our requirements."
"It helps provision the required accesses through policies, approvals, and whatever would be the business requirement."
"The most valuable feature of Oracle Identity Governance is user lifecycle management."
"The self-service functionality for password/access management reduced our need for manual intervention."
"For v8.4, you can work easily if you stick to OOTB, however, should you require customization, then the tool is very flexible using SQL/VB knowledge to extend."

Cons

"It's difficult to use, and we're planning to switch to another application."
"Customer Service: 4/10 for Australian customer service. It seems like Oracle customer service does not know its product as well as I know it."
"It is cumbersome to deploy; there are multiple layers in terms of trying to get it to work; and they're also limited in terms of the number of products it can integrate with."
"Sometimes the support is not able to resolve our issues and they're often changing support engineers."
"The development and the administration side could be a lot more intuitive and easier to use than it currently is, in terms of functionality and what it tries to achieve as a Single Sign-On entity for an enterprise environment."
"You have to chase them a lot to receive a response in a timely manner. Most customers are aware of this problem."
"New application onboarding requires a lot of complex configurations and setups to complete the onboarding of a new application."
"It responds fast but because of the bugs, we have already had some major incidents and complete unavailability."
"Stability was a constant concern. The application was plagued with memory leak issues from initial installation and through multiple major/minor version upgrades."
"Moving from v7.x to v8.x is not easy. You need Courion expertise and skills to upgrade and migrate the data."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"I can't say much about the pricing for Oracle Identity Governance because it's different from one geography to another. In India, the license price costs less than in other geographies."
"The price of the implementation of Oracle Identity Governance is more of a concern than the cost of the solution. The effort that you have to do to put the solution in place is higher than the license cost."
"The cost of support and upgrading to the next release are both expensive."
"I do not know specific pricing but the product is expensive when compared to other OIM products."
"The licensing cost for Oracle Identity Governance is very high, so I'd rate it two out of five."
"Oracle Identity Governance is an expensive solution."
"Oracle Identity Governance is expensive."
"The licensing is expensive."
