We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The solution is stable.""The Intrusion Prevention System and the web filtering are both working well.""The dashboard I have found the most valuable in Fortinet FortiGate.""The initial setup of Fortinet FortiGate was straightforward.""One of the nice things about FortiGate is that it can be deployed on the cloud or on-premises. You can actually do both. That's the biggest reason why I stick with this solution as opposed to something like Cisco Meraki. Another nice thing is that I can log directly into a FortiGate or get to it through their FortiCloud access products. They're pretty reliable and consistent. One of the reasons why I started using the product was their single pane of management. I can deploy their line of firewalls in conjunction with their switching and access points, and I can manage the entire network from one interface. I don't have to log into one interface for the firewall, another one for the access points, and another one for the switches. These firewalls have access point controller functionality built right into the system, so I don't even have to purchase additional devices to manage them.""It is easy to use. We chose this product for the possibility to have virtual domains (VDOMs). We are building another company in the group, and we would like to split the firewalling rules and policies between these two companies. Each company would be able to manage its own policies and security rules, which is an advantage of Fortinet FortiGate. We can define VDOMs, and every company can manage its own VDOM as if it has its own physical firewall, but in fact, we would be using the same physical appliance because we are also using the same internet lines. So, it allows us to reuse the existing resources without the disadvantage of having to compromise on policies and security. Each company can choose its own way of working.""What's most important is the ease of use.""The customization potential is quite impressive."

"The comprehensiveness of the CloudGuard’s threat prevention security is great, especially once they integrate Dome9 in the whole thing. That really ties the whole thing together, so you can tie your entire cloud environment together into one central location, which is nice. Previously, we had three or four different tools that we were trying to leverage to do the same stuff that we are able to do with CloudGuard.""Check Point CloudGuard Network Security has a beautiful threat emulation different from the market.""It's possible to sync the Check Point Management with the cloud portal, therefore allowing automated rules to be set in place whenever creating a new VM.""It is dynamic and agile, and its features and utilities continuously improve and evolve.""One of the main characteristics that Check Point CloudGuard Network Security has given us is granularity and visibility.""The VPN features in CloudGuard Network Security have been the most valuable for us.""I like the tool's ability to manage cloud traffic locally without routing it through our data centers.""Identity awareness, URL filtering, IDS, DLP, Content Filtering, VPN, and Application Control are all excellent."

"The most valuable feature of the Hillstone E-Series is its user-friendliness.""Five out of five ROI.""The initial setup was straightforward. It only took a few hours to deploy.""This solution has two main features that we find very valuable; a threat-intelligence option, and a web/application filtering option. The technical support team are very good and very quick.""The installation is easy, we have not had any complaints from our customers.""I am impressed with the application filtering feature.""Working with the Hillstone E-Series has, from a remote perspective, allowed me to give my clients a secure connectivity.""Stability-wise, I rate the solution a ten out of ten."

Cons
"Its price could be better.""Fortinet FortiGate could improve by adding enhancements to FortiMail, FortiSOAR, and FortiDeceptor.""Backup can be improved.""I think the only issue that needs improvement is the interface.""The solution needs to improve its integration with cybersecurity.""The price of FortiGate should be reduced because there are some other leading products that are cheaper.""Fortinet FortiGate needs to improve the protection, it did not prevent us from being attacked. Additionally, Fortinet FortiGate could provide more features for WAF devices. I should not have to purchase two solutions, it would be a benefit to combine these features into one solution.""The license renewal process, annual renewal price, and the web application firewall features should be improved."

More Fortinet FortiGate Cons →

"They are coming out with more SD-WAN express route support from a firewall perspective. That would be great.""Check Point has a history of moving fast with software release and upgrade cycles which are difficult to keep up with at times.""The solution’s technical support, DNS security and training could be improved.""CloudGuard Network Security could be improved in the area of upgrading in place.""Lacks the ability to integrate with other security solutions.""The memory and hard disk capability could be strengthened.""I would like to see a step-by-step initial installation of the firewall. That would be really helpful. Like in Oracle appliances, when you start it asks you, what's your current IP address? An initial setup should be a step by step and intuitive process. You click on "begin," it asks you some simple questions. You fill in the blanks - your current IP address, what you want to do, you want to set up a site to site VPN, for example, that kind of thing. That would be the smartest thing to have.""The user experience might suffer if we don't have the time to follow up with our clients and ensure they are using the right options. Clients also want more local support in Portuguese and Spanish during their normal business hours. That's something I hear from my customers and my team, too."

More Check Point CloudGuard Network Security Cons →

"Support from Hillstone E-Series has a shortcoming that needs improvement.""Having frequent live webinars on a monthly basis would really help.""The tool provides just a general report. It does not provide a granular report. Hence, the tool should work on its reporting feature.""The solution doesn't have a web proxy built into the system like Sophos. This is something they should work to change.""I am not sure if this solution offers active directory integration. Adding that feature will definitely be an advantage.""The tool needs to improve its price.""SSL VPN license cost is not cheap.""The current usage reporting is very basic."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Fortinet has one or two license types, and the VPN numbers are only limited by the hardware chassis make."
  • "These boxes are not that expensive compared to what they can do, their functionality, and the reporting you receive. Fortinet licensing is straightforward and less confusing compared to Cisco."
  • "Go for long term pricing negotiated at the time of purchase."
  • "Work through partners for the best pricing."
  • "The value is the capability of having multiple services with one unique license, not having the limitation per user licensing schema, like other vendors."
  • "Easy to understand licensing requirements."
  • "We saved a bundle by not needing all the past appliances from an NGFW."
  • "The cost is too high... They have to focus on more features with less cost for the customer. If you see the market, where it's going, there are a lot of players offering more features for less cost."
  • More Fortinet FortiGate Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "On average, it is normally on the lower end, being less expensive than Palo Alto or Cisco."
  • "It is more expensive than other solutions and would be more competetive in the market if it came down in price."
  • "We pay approximately ‎€150,000 ($166,000 USD) per year."
  • "Licensing is simply by the number of hosts that you are looking to protect within your environment. It makes it much easier to ensure that you are covering your environment."
  • "There is flexibility in the different licensing models that are offered."
  • "The pricing is pretty high, not just for your capital, for what you have to pay upfront, but for what you pay for your annual software renewals as well, compared to a lot of other vendors. Check Point is near the top, as far as how much it's going to cost you."
  • "Pricing of CloudGuard is pretty fair when you have a single account. It's comparable with other cloud providers. But for our use case, it got really pricey when we had to deploy multiple CloudGuards on multiple accounts in different regions, because you can't have CloudGuard protecting multiple regions. That's the big thing."
  • "The pricing and licensing have been good. We just had to do a license increase for our portion of it. We had that done within a couple of days. Given the fact that it's purely a software-based license, it ends up being even quicker than doing it for an on-prem firewall."
  • More Check Point CloudGuard Network Security Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "The licensing model is very complex with many subcategories of licenses you can purchase. They could make it more simplified for customers to understand."
  • "The cost per year for licensing, and hardware, is approximately $850 for the basic plan."
  • "The tool's pricing is reasonable. It depends on the model. The product's pricing is around 600 USD. You need to buy a software license to activate the features. You need to pay around 150 USD for that."
  • "Hillstone's pricing is economical and neither very high nor very low."
