Reliable image backups have protected our HMIs and simplified on‑premises recovery
We have not tried the vulnerability assessment feature yet because we have a different set of protocols for our cybersecurity. We conduct audits and plug the gaps as part of our security approach. We are not using AI with the anti-malware from Acronis; we are using it only for backup and recovery. On the backup and restoration side with Acronis Backup, some on-premises AI features which can detect anomalies may be something which would improve the product significantly. Otherwise, we are not very comfortable with cloud-based solutions at this time. We are looking for products which are entirely on-premises, so they remain within our control.

Provides effective backup for physical servers and needs improvements for cloud compatibility

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"I didn't start using Acronis until I came here 3 years ago - it's what the organization was using already, and I found that I liked it better than Symantec."
"We have a backup of not only the machine, i.e., the hard drive and data, but we also have the ability to recover to a new piece of equipment fairly quickly."
"I've reimaged servers and been back up and running in exactly no time with the completely new hardware."
"The NASDAQ level CFS level backup is the feature I find most beneficial for our data protection strategy."
"One of the most valuable features of Acronis is its AnyData Engine which allows any device to connect to any other device for the purpose of data restoration."
"The most valuable feature is the extra protection, especially for the backup."
"The ability to clone backups."
"It has simple buying options and deployments. You can buy on-cloud, on-premises, or hybrid solutions. Acronis Backup is very easy to deploy. It also does not consume much hardware. The administrator's tasks are very simple. It is very user friendly, and it also has good security features with low-level encryption and data encryption."
"The command-line interface is user-friendly and well documented in the reference guide."
"The solution is very stable, it was very helpful."
"The initial setup is straightforward if you understand Data Protector."
"It has the ability to backup both DB2 (IBM's RDBMS) and HP-UX (HP's Unix OS)."
"Many of my clients have been able to remove tape drives from remote sites."
"I like that it supports HPE UNIX servers since many backup solutions do not - this is the main reason why we chose this solution."
"The best thing I find with Data Protector as opposed to other products was the inter-compatibility with all different OSs; it's very OS agnostic and just seems to work, and the GUI interface is very intuitive and very easy to use."
"The stability of the product seems to be quite good."

Cons

"Customer service can open a ticket for you, but it could be several days before you hear back from them."
"I would like to have more hardware space. It would make it better. I would like to have two more terabytes."
"Acronis Cyber Protect could be more affordable, especially for us in South America. It is important to review the cost for different countries."
"When we do POCs, we can't open support tickets. We have to go to a PO to open support tickets."
"Right now I'm using Acronis 2016, and it's a lot harder to do restore."
"I've had some issues with the understandability of the interface. I think if they had someone with expertise in user interfaces to look at this, they could clean up the user interface."
"One of my clients is using version 11.7, which I feel has quite a few bugs and is not easy to work with."
"More flexibility with Acronis Linux Console ability to run modules such as the Acronis Windows console; some LINUS modules are locked."
"Faster VEAgent Restores"
"We could use the ability to do snapshots for mass storage systems."
"The downside of the flexibility on offer is if you over-configure it, it may fail to function as some configurations may not match."
"Integration with the market applications must be improved, such as MS Exchange, MS Active Directory, SAP and Oracle. Other backup tools are more efficient with the integrated backups."
"Many of our users complain about the GUI. You still need to rely on the command line interface."
"This tool is also missing some configurations and functionalities that I want."
"Data Protector's main single point of weakness is its GUI."
"The initial setup was complex in terms of IT, the business, and our technical support."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The pricing is comparable to the newest solution available on the market, Altaro."
"I think that the prices of the product go up every year. If one is extremely expensive and ten is absolutely cheap, I rate the product price as six."
"I would say that at the pricepoint that it's at, it's definitely worth the money."
"The price of the solution is reasonable."
"The price of Acronis Backup could be reduced, it is expensive."
"Pricing is what it is. I don't shop around once I find a good solution. I insist they maintain ongoing support year after year for updates and tech support."
"This is an affordable product and fits within our customers' budgets."
"Licensing fees are billed annually and there are no extra charges."
"Pricing/licensing is Data Protector's single best offering. In its most basic environment, the only license required is for whatever target device is required."
"The pricing is acceptable for enterprise level companies, but it's not acceptable for small- and medium-sized businesses. Micro Focus Data Protector is not an enterprise level solution, and it should cover small- and medium-sized businesses with acceptable prices."
"It is fast, reliable, and its licensing policy is great."
"The licensing structure provides cost savings to business."
"Avoid using many LTO drives; when using fewer drives, the price will be extremely good."
"Pricing for Micro Focus Data Protector is reasonable."
"In Data Protector, if you need extra features, you need to buy the agents for these features. Some of the features are Terabytes, some of them are agents. There's some complexity in the pricing and licensing."
"The licensing cost is too high."
