Auvik is our monitoring solution; we're an MSP, so we use it to monitor multiple medium-sized enterprise clients. It's primarily used by the network team, though other teams log on occasionally. We have five users in our company.
Network Analyst at a computer software company with 11-50 employees
Eliminates the need for multiple solutions and saves us time through automation
Pros and Cons
- "The best features are the alerting and monitoring."
- "I want to see improvement around backups; we had a case where we created a ticket for online support, and they were able to set up backups for one of our devices, but they were unwilling to do the same backup script with a different device. The script uses the same code, just a different model number, and the engineers weren't willing to add it to the other model."
What is our primary use case?
How has it helped my organization?
Auvik helps us manage our clients better, and it's all from one web page, so we can switch between clients easily without having to log into different systems. We can also remotely access their networks, which is handy.
We previously used multiple solutions for managing our networks and switching to Auvik resulted in time savings of approximately 20%.
Auvik increased our IT team's availability, especially as we can look into issues remotely and from our phones if we're away from a PC. All our teammates can log into a webpage instead of installing applications on their computers, which is nice from an availability point of view. We have seen time savings in the area of 10%.
The solution helps us delegate low-level tasks to junior staff; we send alerts to our NOC team, and they help triage some of the lower-level ones. If they can't resolve it, they escalate it to us. The delegation capability is essential, as it saves us a lot of time.
Auvik helps keep device inventories up-to-date; we can set it to scan the network, and the information updates automatically. It saves about 30% of our time.
The solution keeping device inventories up-to-date helps our teams focus on high-value tasks and delegate low-level tasks to junior staff.
What is most valuable?
The best features are the alerting and monitoring.
Using Auvik, we can remotely access our clients' devices or networks, which is an excellent feature.
The solution also allows us to do backups, check usage, and do SNMP polling for device statistics all in one pane of glass, which is nice.
Auvik's monitoring and managing functions are easy to use, especially as I did some webinars. We need the service, so ease of use is critical.
Auvik provides a single integrated platform.
Auvik provides a basic network map, and as long as everything is working correctly, it draws a little topology table, which is a nice feature.
Auvik helps to reduce repetitive, low-priority tasks through automation, primarily our backups, as that's a repetitive task. From a backup point of view, the solution handles everything, and we only need to verify once in a while, so we have time savings of 90% in this area.
What needs improvement?
I want to see improvement around backups; we had a case where we created a ticket for online support, and they were able to set up backups for one of our devices, but they were unwilling to do the same backup script with a different device. The script uses the same code, just a different model number, and the engineers weren't willing to add it to the other model.

Automatically connects to multiple devices with a single set of credentials but is expensive
Pros and Cons
- "The best feature is the ease of setup. Auvik immediately scans and finds everything. It automatically connects to multiple devices with a single set of credentials."
- "I'm still undergoing the trial period. My only complaint is that I still don't understand what the license cost will be. More transparent pricing would be massive."
What is our primary use case?
We use Auvik to manage our network devices and get alerts about what's happening on our systems. We've deployed it across our showroom office network. We have 140 devices.
How has it helped my organization?
We're discovering devices we weren't getting previously. For example, we can monitor printer status and be more aware of what's happening with our printers. It's given us visibility that we didn't have.
It's essential because we don't have a dedicated IT team to manage our network. In addition to our IT infrastructure, we need to monitor smart office devices like the cameras and ensure all our devices are online. The ability to monitor this is massively valuable for our potential clients and us.
We plan to use Auvik to keep our device inventories updated, but I haven't set that up yet. However, it has already populated a list of devices we will keep up to date. We didn't have that list previously.
What is most valuable?
The best feature is the ease of setup. Auvik immediately scans and finds everything. It automatically connects to multiple devices with a single set of credentials.
Managing the platform seems relatively easy. I've only used it for a few days, but it's far easier than the previous product we were using. It gives us a single integrated platform, which is crucial for our business model because we provide solutions for others. The network visualization makes rough sense. There are elements that I find tricky to get my head around, but I think might be because it's all new to me.
I say it's fairly clear, but obviously, it needs me to spend a little bit more time maybe grouping things together and things like that to make sure we've got the correct devices that things are mapped incorrectly.
What needs improvement?
I'm still undergoing the trial period. My only complaint is that I still don't understand what the license cost will be. More transparent pricing would be massive. In terms of functionality, it's head and shoulders above our previous solution.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have only been using Auvik for about a week.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Auvik seems more stable than our previous solution.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The scalability seems good. I placed a collector on a relatively low-power machine, and it doesn't seem to be struggling on the network. Everything seems fine.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We previously used Domotz, but we switched because it required us to run a device on the network that took another device off the network for some reason. I began looking at other solutions to see if they all had this issue. I stumbled across Auvik and decided to try it out.
One of the issues we face is that some of our customers won't allow anything to leave the site, so it has to be on-prem. That's one reason we chose Domotz. However, that caused problems with our network. We prefer a cloud-based system on our network because I work remotely more often than not. On-prem and cloud solutions have advantages and drawbacks. Some customers need an on-prem solution, but I prefer a cloud-based one.
How was the initial setup?
Deploying Auvik is straightforward, and I did it myself. You install the agent, add credentials, and click okay. After you deploy the collector, the network map populates in under a day. I deployed it in the evening, and everything was there the next day.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
When comparing prices, you should consider how long it will take to set up and configure. A cheaper option might not be completely deployed for months. We don't have tons of time to do these things. The most important aspect is how fast we can get it running. How good the software is, and how quickly we can start using it effectively.
There was no visibility prior to setting it up on pricing. Having set it up, their pricing seems fair. It's definitely more expensive than what we're paying at the moment.
What other advice do I have?
I rate Auvik seven out of 10. It seems fairly simple so far, and we haven't had any issues. However, I haven't used it extensively enough. It's expensive, and it would need to be mind-blowing to justify the cost.
My advice to future users is to ensure you get your credentials together before starting the setup.

Reduced time to resolve with real-time alerts, provides excellent visibility over the network and is straightforward to use
Pros and Cons
- "The alerting is fantastic; if something goes offline, we're notified right away. It gives us a lot of peace of mind knowing the solution will alert us to issues automatically 24/7."
- "The ability to subcategorize our inventories, between physical and VM servers, for example, would be a welcome addition."
What is our primary use case?
Auvik is an excellent tool for monitoring all our infrastructure devices, particularly network switches, servers, etc. We also use it to manage assets such as printers and workstations.
We use multiple products in our system, and Auvik is one of the top tools when it comes to monitoring; it does its job well, and we're pleased with it.
How has it helped my organization?
The product significantly helps us; the real-time updates and alerts, and the rapid response time those facilitate, are beneficial. It gives us a lot of confidence knowing that if something goes down and needs to be fixed, Auvik will notify us immediately, and we can start working on a solution right away.
The solution's automation had a significant effect on our IT team's availability, especially when it comes to issues that may arise on the network. Automation provides us with real-time information, which allows us to resolve quickly.
We've seen a massive reduction in our meantime to resolution (MTTR) with Auvik; having real-time problem alerts is a game-changer for us.
What is most valuable?
The alerting is fantastic; if something goes offline, we're notified right away. It gives us a lot of peace of mind knowing the solution will alert us to issues automatically 24/7.
Once the solution is set up, the monitoring and management functions are straightforward to use. This is important because we want our systems to be as easy to use as possible for our daily operations.
Overall, Auvik's network visualization provides us with a lot of information. The interface, icons, and mapping showing the icons and labels for particular devices are intuitive; the solution does a good job of providing us with the information we need in this respect.
The product helped reduce repetitive, low-priority tasks through automation, which is a game-changer for us. Automation benefits our team and department, as well as other departments and business units because we can integrate their systems into our Auvik system.
Auvik provides good visibility into our remote and distributed networks, although most of our infrastructure is local. We have data centers in different locations, and all our network devices are visible on the Auvik interface, including VMs, servers, and workstations. Everything can be integrated into our system.
Comparing Auvik's cloud-based solution versus on-prem network monitoring solutions, being in the cloud is another game-changer. There can be some advantages with on-prem, but we prefer cloud-based, so it's great that we have that option. The cloud is the future, and everyone is moving in that direction, so that's a big plus for Auvik.
What needs improvement?
The ability to subcategorize our inventories, between physical and VM servers, for example, would be a welcome addition.
For how long have I used the solution?
We've been using the solution for six to seven years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Auvik is very stable; we've experienced 99.99% uptime. It always provides us with the accurate information we need.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The stability could be better. Auvik can cater for many units and devices, but adding subcategories would make scaling easier.
How are customer service and support?
The product has been steady since implementation, so we never needed to contact technical support.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I arrived after the solution was implemented, and before the implementation, I assume everything was done manually.
How was the initial setup?
I wasn't at the company when Auvik was implemented, but as with all systems, the implementation can be tricky.
Auvik sometimes announces maintenance on their end, which is all done in the cloud, so the solution doesn't require any maintenance on our end.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The pricing is fair; it's just the right price for what the solution provides.
To someone comparing network monitoring solutions but concerned about pricing, with the features and automation Auvik provides, it's on top of the game. There are some cheaper options, but Auvik is one of the top tools, and I recommend it to anyone with the budget.
What other advice do I have?
I rate the solution an eight out of ten. Auvik could be better, but overall, I highly recommend the tool.
We don't currently use the solution for managing device inventories.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Private Cloud
If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

Gives our customers a clearer view of their infrastructure and critical network points
Pros and Cons
- "Auvik's features for monitoring device availability and bandwidth utilization have greatly helped us. From a cybersecurity perspective, bandwidth utilization tells us if we have a potential data exfiltration incident. It also helps us decide whether to increase the bandwidth for one of the links or if the current bandwidth is sufficient."
- "We're having difficulties with Auvik's regular maintenance windows. They do the maintenance on the cloud side, which affects the on-prem collectors that gather the logs from the different network assets."
What is our primary use case?
We use Auvik to monitor our client's infrastructure. It gives us real-time visibility into the devices, their status, and their availability at the device and interface level. Auvik monitors bandwidth utilization, TPU utilization, RAM, memory utilization, etc.
Auvik is deployed in a mesh environment consisting of five locations and the data center. We'll be moving toward Azure, but I'm not sure how well Auvik could cover us in that space.
How has it helped my organization?
It gives our customers a clearer view of their infrastructure and critical network points, which is visualized in a nice diagram on the website. The visualization part is really cool. It gives you an overview of the entire network at a glance.
It's a crucial tool for helping our IT team to monitor remote and distributed networks. We couldn't visualize what's out there without it. We have data centers here and there and a couple of branches. We could see they are all connected and working, but we would not have a clue about the infrastructure underneath. Visualizing this helps us to understand what we have today. We know where to look or troubleshoot.
Auvik has an excellent scanning tool for our device inventories. It helps to have everything in one place. It saves time. Otherwise, we would need to ask around or check spreadsheets. Monitoring tools, in general, decrease the time of the resolution. Auvik performs about as well as other monitoring tools. They all do the same thing.
What is most valuable?
Auvik's features for monitoring device availability and bandwidth utilization have greatly helped us. From a cybersecurity perspective, bandwidth utilization tells us if we have a potential data exfiltration incident. It also helps us decide whether to increase the bandwidth for one of the links or if the current bandwidth is sufficient.
The interface is simple and efficient. You can quickly figure out where the icons and patterns you need to click to find information from Auvik. The ease of use is crucial because we log into Auvik four times a week. Having a single integrated platform simplifies the solution big time.
What needs improvement?
We're having difficulties with Auvik's regular maintenance windows. They do the maintenance on the cloud side, which affects the on-prem collectors that gather the logs from the different network assets.
When they have the maintenance window on the cloud, we do not have visibility of the network assets on-prem. I've read a support ticket regarding this, but there hasn't been a solution.
For how long have I used the solution?
We have been using Auvik for more than three years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It is very stable. We haven't seen an issue at all, except for the maintenance windows they have every couple of weeks.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
I believe Auvik is capable of scaling up. I haven't tried it but I think it is ready because they have the scanning tool. Once we add a new device or a new subnet to be monitored, it would definitely scan it and add the discovered devices on the spot.
How are customer service and support?
I rate Auvik support 10 out of 10. They responded exceptionally well when I needed them.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
SolarWinds has an umbrella solution where you need to subscribe or purchase modules to get different features. However, we bring all of these under Auvik once we subscribe to the service. It wasn't a SaaS platform like Auvik. The company decided to switch for business reasons.
What was our ROI?
We've definitely seen a return. Keeping your infrastructure monitored increases the uptime of the network. It tells you if you will have a problem up ahead. We used it to manage an issue in the past where one of the devices had high memory utilization. Auvik helped us identify the moment that memory utilization started to increase. That increased the ROI from a customer perspective.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Auvik has a reasonable subscription model.
What other advice do I have?
I rate Auvik nine out of 10. It's a tool that's accessible to techies and businesspeople alike. It grabs the information out of the network, visualizes it, and keeps the history of everything that goes on, which is beneficial for real-time and forensic monitoring.

IT Manager at New Mexico State Capitol
Keeps track of contracts for network devices and indicates what updates are needed
Pros and Cons
- "Auvik's cloud SaaS model saves money because we don't need to maintain devices or pay for overhead on our end."
- "The discovery of devices in your inventory could be more automated. It doesn't find anything without an SNMP string. If you have an SNMP string, it'll find it for you and keep it in the inventory."
What is our primary use case?
We originally purchased Auvik to map our network because I didn't have any kind of network diagram. I thought this would provide a better view of our network.
How has it helped my organization?
In the past, we had several solutions for monitoring our network. Switching to Auvik saved quite a lot of time. We have a small team with limited resources, and we saved a lot of time trying to do all this. It has increased our IT team's availability by about 40 percent. When we implemented Auvik, we didn't have a network admin, so Auvik helped fill that void. Auvik provides a general idea of the network layout and our infrastructure, allowing me to work with third-party and in-house engineers.
Auvik has helped us automate repetitive tasks and streamline processes. For example, it's easy to recognize when we need to upgrade our firmware or patch something. It has reduced our resolution time because it can take time to resolve issues if we don't have a network diagram. Auvik's cloud SaaS model saves money because we don't need to maintain devices or pay for overhead on our end.
What is most valuable?
I like that Auvik keeps track of our contracts for the network devices and tells us what updates are needed. Using Auvik is pretty straightforward. We've gone through onboarding a few times there with the representative. It's easy to use if you have a good grasp of network administration.
It has a nice dashboard that rolls a few solutions into one. That integrated platform is crucial because we don't need to navigate multiple dashboards. It's a single pane of glass. Auvik's interface is intuitive and gives you an understanding of what to look for.
What needs improvement?
The discovery of devices in your inventory could be more automated. It doesn't find anything without an SNMP string. If you have an SNMP string, it'll find it for you and keep it in the inventory.
For how long have I used the solution?
We've been using Auvik for about six months.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I rate Auvik 10 out of 10 for stability because we haven't seen any issues.
How are customer service and support?
I rate Auvik support 10 out of 10. We have had ongoing contact with Auvik support. They check in with us periodically to make sure we're doing good. That's pretty consistent.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We started with Auvik.
How was the initial setup?
Setting up Auvik is straightforward. I implemented it by myself with some guidance from the vendor. It was a matter of running a wizard and ensuring we had the right credentials. We used the out-of-the-box configuration. After deploying the collector, our network map started populating instantly, but we allowed 24 hours to ensure the collector had run its full course.
We gave it about 24 hours just to make sure. It started populating almost instantly, but we wanted to make sure that we had everything there and that the collector ran its full course.
What about the implementation team?
We had support from a vendor consultant who helped with the setup and followed up with routine maintenance. The service has been great.
What was our ROI?
Looking up every device to see if it's on contract or renewal takes time. Auvik provides a single pane of glass with all your devices, which saves considerable time. I estimate it's an 80 percent reduction.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Auvik is a good product for the price. The license is reasonable. We took a chance on it and figured it would work for us. It did even more than we expected.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
The closest network mapping solution was SolarWinds, but it couldn't offer the same visibility into firmware updates, contract renewals, etc. SolarWinds was a lot more expensive, too. Price was the deciding factor.
What other advice do I have?
I rate Auvik 10 out of 10. I would recommend it for companies looking for an easy way to get their network mapped and features like device contract management and inventory. Auvik's ease of use and price are the most important factors, especially for small teams.
You should do a proof of concept before you deploy it.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Public Cloud

Tier 2 Support Tech at ArcSource Consulting
Graphical network display helps us stay more organized and up-to-speed on our clients' networks
Pros and Cons
- "It's a single, integrated platform and that is very important because the more tools that you can build into one product suite, the easier it is for your engineering staff to learn it."
- "I don't know that there are any remote tools for directly connecting to workstations through Auvik. If there is, I have not used them, so adding a remote tool would be helpful."
What is our primary use case?
We use it for our small and medium businesses, specifically for data collection. We also use it for network mapping.
How has it helped my organization?
It's super helpful in the sense that you can look at the network and it shows you a graphical representation, so you know exactly how things are connected. It helps us stay more organized and more up-to-speed on what is in our clients' networks.
It helps keep device inventories up to date. The amount of data you get from it, whether it's network maps or the overall client information, helps you to solve tickets. We have two tiers for our tickets and we have a NOC team that assists us as well. That is how we run the business and the simpler tickets can be handled by the junior engineers.
Also, its ability to visualize network mapping and topology works extremely well. It's very comparable to SolarWinds, which is what I used in a previous position.
The whole troubleshooting process is made easier, and automation is part of that troubleshooting. And its automation has made us more available because it's enabling us to cut down on the time that it takes to resolve a help desk ticket.
We have absolutely seen a decrease in MTTR, thanks to the amount of data and the network maps. If an engineer is looking at a particular client location, they're able to ascertain, fairly quickly, where devices are located and how everything is connected. It just makes the whole troubleshooting process much simpler.
What is most valuable?
The data collection, as a whole, is valuable.
The reports seem to be really comprehensive as well. There's a lot of information in terms of the make and model of a specific piece of hardware, IP address, subnets that a device is located on, and network map. It's a single, integrated platform and that is very important because the more tools that you can build into one product suite, the easier it is for your engineering staff to learn it.
It's extremely simple to use the monitoring and management functions of Auvik. Anybody with just a general IT background would be able to use it without a problem. This aspect of the solution is extremely important. As we're training new people, it's nice to have tools that are simple to use yet powerful enough to give you insight into your client's network. It would be a great tool for delegating low-level tasks to junior staff because there are so many built-in features and you get so much information out of Auvik.
What needs improvement?
Nothing really stands out in terms of a lack. If you want to be nit-picky, I don't know that there are any remote tools for directly connecting to workstations through Auvik. If there is, I have not used them, so adding a remote tool would be helpful.
For how long have I used the solution?
I started with my current company about three months ago and that's how long I've had experience in Auvik.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It's extremely stable. I haven't had any issues at all. It seems rock-solid.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We have it deployed across at least 30 clients' systems, so it's definitely a scalable solution.
How are customer service and support?
I have not had to call technical support yet because the product is fairly simple and straightforward.
What was our ROI?
The ROI would be high. Although I don't handle any of the billing our company receives, from a technical aspect, there is a lot of value from Auvik. I couldn't tell you how long it took to implement because I wasn't around for that, but the usefulness that I get out of Auvik is obvious.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
I don't know what we pay for Auvik. But whatever the price is, it's worth it because we're getting a lot of value from it for that price.
What other advice do I have?
In terms of technical insight, if you're looking for good insight into your client's environment, Auvik is a great solution.
Auvik has definitely impressed me. It seems like it's very lightweight, yet it gives you a lot of features.

Senior Network Engineer at a tech services company with 11-50 employees
Features a beautiful UI with extensive customization options and provides excellent visibility
Pros and Cons
- "The extensive personalization and customization options are great because it lets me do a lot. I can set up different permission structures, assign various staff members read-only access and others full access, and customize my notifications."
- "A feature I'd like to see is a stat breakdown of our networks at the end of every month, showing package drop rates for each network and so on. For example, this data delivered in an email would be a good feature."
What is our primary use case?
The primary use is for notifications and alerts, but also to get a feel for the network because I can see it all on a map, and it looks nice. We don't only use Auvik.
To paint a picture of our environment, we deploy Auvik for some of our clients, and some of them own multiple facilities, so we have sites for them. Within our company, different individuals have different access levels, some with read-only. We also give some of our clients read-only access so they can see their network if they are curious.
How has it helped my organization?
We are an IT company, so notifications and alerts are essential for us. We can preempt problems because the solution alerts us before the customer even contacts us, so by the time they call, we already have information and an ETA on the fix for them.
Auvik affected our IT team's visibility into remote and distributed networks globally. Everything we do is remote, including initial onsite setups, and we can see how a network looks from the perspective of a nice-looking map. This visibility is important because it helps us see the network more clearly and provides a more physical feel instead of just seeing numbers and settings. Having an actual map of the network components and connections helps significantly.
We have seen time-to-value with Auvik; it's a beneficial product, and we use it daily.
We have seen a reduction in our mean time to resolution (MTTR) because the solution allows us to begin troubleshooting very quickly.
What is most valuable?
The extensive personalization and customization options are great because it lets me do a lot. I can set up different permission structures, assign various staff members read-only access and others full access, and customize my notifications.
Auvik's UI is beautiful.
The solution's monitoring and management functions are relatively straightforward; with ten being the most difficult, I'd rate Auvik three point five or four. This simplicity is important to my organization.
Regarding Auvik helping to visualize the network mapping, that's one of the features I love most about it. It shows the network on such a simple level, with the firewall on top, the switches, types of connections, devices, and so on.
Auvik has excellent integrations with other solutions we use.
What needs improvement?
A feature I'd like to see is a stat breakdown of our networks at the end of every month, showing package drop rates for each network and so on. For example, this data delivered in an email would be a good feature.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using the solution for four to five months.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Ten out of ten, we've never had an issue with the solution's stability.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Auvik is highly scalable.
How are customer service and support?
I've never needed to contact technical support.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup was straightforward, largely thanks to Auvik's knowledge base. They provided an excellent knowledge base, exact instructions, and courses, which made the process very simple.
Deployment of the solution to a site requires one staff member, and the process includes the following:
- Installing the connector on a local device.
- Getting it signed in with the SMPP protocol.
- Creating the sites and the multi-site.
Following the deployment, we monitor notifications; no other maintenance is necessary.
What about the implementation team?
Auvik assisted us with the initial deployment.
What other advice do I have?
I rate the solution ten out of ten. We don't use it to control every aspect of the network, but I'm satisfied with what we use it for.
Auvik is the solution for those looking to monitor their networks. It's incredible; my advice is to go for it.

Technical Consultant at a computer software company with 201-500 employees
Easy to set up and provides intuitive visualization, but needs ability to communicate with non-SNMP devices
Pros and Cons
- "I found the ease of setup to be a helpful feature. The appliance was quite quick to get running. The fact that Auvik is a cloud-based solution, as opposed to an on-prem solution, meant there was one less thing to worry about. I didn't have to configure another device or provision a server and support it myself."
- "I require the monitoring of Linux devices and it doesn't support them. Although we've done a trial, we're not going to carry on with it. We've already gone with another product. Also, seeing the topology is quite useful, but it's not really suitable for a large enterprise."
What is our primary use case?
It is used for network monitoring.
How has it helped my organization?
Auvik hasn't really improved things for us. We tried Auvik, but it didn't meet our needs.
What is most valuable?
I found the ease of setup to be a helpful feature. The appliance was quite quick to get running. The fact that Auvik is a cloud-based solution, as opposed to an on-prem solution, meant there was one less thing to worry about. I didn't have to configure another device or provision a server and support it myself. It was easier having it supported by someone else.
The interface is also quite nice. Another part that is very easy to use is the monitoring and management functions. Ease of use is awesome.
The overall intuitiveness of the visualization was very good.
What needs improvement?
I require the monitoring of Linux devices and it doesn't support them. Although we've done a trial, we're not going to carry on with it. We've already gone with another product.
Also, seeing the topology is quite useful, but it's not really suitable for a large enterprise.
It also wasn't able to inventory everything. We're using Lansweeper, which pulls the serial of every single IP device, but Auvik only seemed to be interested in SNMP. It didn't care about non-SNMP devices. The solution needs to move past just having SNMP. If it could have other ways, like an agent, that would make things easier. The lack of being able to communicate with non-SNMP devices was the issue.
For how long have I used the solution?
I used Auvik as a trial for a couple of weeks.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It was very stable. There were no outages that I was aware of.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Because it's cloud-based, it scales almost infinitely.
How are customer service and support?
I didn't need to contact their technical support. The documentation was quite good. It was quite easy to get going.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Our current product was out-of-support, so we were looking for alternatives.
How was the initial setup?
The initial deployment was very easy. We used the VMware template. It took under an hour after the collector was implemented for the network to start to populate. The actual deployment took about 20 minutes.
We deployed it in a test network. Obviously, we were not going to let an unknown product loose on the entire enterprise network.
It was just me involved in the deployment and there was no maintenance required.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
If you're a small company, Auvik is probably quite reasonable. But we've got 500 servers, so pricing suddenly became a lot more of an issue. There needs to be better bulk pricing for it.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We evaluated Nagios and Spiceworks as well. We decided to try out Auvik because we were looking around and wanted to try everything we could.
What other advice do I have?
Make sure that all your devices are SNMP-capable before implementing it.
Auvik was quite good at what it did, which is monitoring SNMP devices, but it didn't have enough there to monitor an IP generic device. If it wasn't SNMP, it didn't really work. It needs more agents and more monitoring methods.
