I have been using Veritas Backup Exec for two years.

According to my knowledge, it saves a median of 6.4 hours per week with top savings of up to 10 hours weekly. This efficiency yields massive savings, dropping customer service ticket costs to 0.46 dollars and 4.18 dollars for manual handling tasks as little as four hours.

The biggest takeaway is that Veritas Backup Exec has reached its end of sale. For organizations relying on it today, this signals a critical transition window rather than standard lifecycle maintenance.

Veritas Backup Exec is a mature, capable tool for protecting physical, virtual, and cloud environments. Users frequently highlight concerns with licensing complexity for customer support, and potential adopters should carefully evaluate their total cost of ownership and explore modern alternatives before committing. My overall review rating for this product is 10.

I am the MSSP, partner reseller, and my main use cases include that.

I have a customer in the pharmaceutical industry, a medicine manufacturer, and they are using Veritas Backup Exec.

All the features of Veritas Backup Exec are good.

The storage part and the ease of adding the server to the agent are really nice. It is very easy to add agents, add storage to take backups, and manage schedules.

I am not the right person to mention what has to be improved in Veritas Backup Exec as I think they are working very well for the application.

The licensing remains the same in Veritas Backup Exec. We have to struggle with license deployment every time, so I think they can improve that aspect.

I have been working with Veritas Backup Exec for quite a long time.

There was an issue with the licensing during deployment as the option was not very familiar, but that was resolved. After that, there were no technical issues.

I don't have any complaints regarding stability with Veritas Backup Exec.

It is easy to scale Veritas Backup Exec. It totally depends on the licensing; if you are adding more licenses, you can add more agents; if you are not, you cannot.

The technical support for Veritas Backup Exec is very nice. Whenever we have called them, they have supported us on the same call. They don't ask us to wait for a callback or create a ticket. They support on the same call and close the issue in one call, based on my experience.

My rating for support from Veritas Backup Exec is ten out of ten.

The initial setup process for Veritas Backup Exec was easy.

The initial deployment takes around two to four hours, depending on the agent and the configuration part. You can install it in an hour or two, or it may take additional time. It totally depends on the configuration.

I am working with Veritas Backup Exec, and that is the one I use.

The value of using Veritas Backup Exec across physical and virtual environments is significant.

I had a chance to use Veritas Backup Exec on physical and virtual environments, but not on the cloud.

The benefits from the platform support of Veritas Backup Exec are that it works very nicely for physical and virtual environments.

Veritas Backup Exec is affordable for my customers.

My customers use the solution on-premises and in virtualization.

Securing the data for customers is obviously a significant benefit of Veritas Backup Exec.

I highly recommend using Veritas Backup Exec for backup as it is very easy to use, easy to deploy, and the support is also very nice.

On a scale of 1-10, I rate Veritas Backup Exec a 9.5.

I have been using Backup Exec for over seven years for a customer. It is used to back up data with a simplified interface, stability, performance, and cost-effectiveness. The price is essential for its function, as we do not have another solution. For me, it is a direct copy to type.

I need to use PowerStore and Veritas Backup Exec. It is a direct backup to types, and it is supported by my backup. It offers good performance and stability, and it works properly. I am happy with this program. It is still working on aligning with security requirements and data encryption for Amazon or ATAC. It has a lot of functions and security measures, which ensure our backups are secure.

I probably need to monitor the infrastructure and check the logs to be notified about anomalies. I aim to monitor the functionality and probably find something this year to monitor logs from our backup system and storage and notify us about any unusual activities.

I have used the solution for over seven years.

I received a scalability function for better performance to back up only once on the machine. I waited about one year for this function. Now in the current version, I can run more than one process for backup in one job for more virtual machines.

The customer service is good. It is not urgent, for example, in four hours, but in twenty-four hours, I see good technical engineer support resolving issues. Sometimes it takes 24 or 48 hours, however, I receive a solution every time.

The update process is easy. A few times per year, I update the new version, server, and client. The procedure is easy, short, and requires a short maintenance window. It does not complicate matters and is easy in a few steps.

The price is one of the best. When I compare it with others, it is twice or three times cheaper, however, the functionality is the same.

I considered another for VIN backup. The direct copy function to Backup, VIN does not have this option, but Backup Exec includes it, and it works.

I am happy with this program. It is still working on aligning with security requirements and encrypting data for Amazon or ATAC. 

The overall product rating is five out of ten.

I have used Veritas for managing the backing of business data, completion of critical databases, IT data, and board data. Everything has been covered effectively.

I find Veritas to be quite useful and it fits completely with my business requirements. 

Additionally, Veritas has technical compatibility with my hardware and other systems. Some other backup solutions have issues with compatibility and boot operation. 

Veritas helps me manage business-critical backups effectively and has been pretty useful in keeping the functions comfortable.

Some improvements are needed to enhance flexibility. Veritas is known for managing different technologies. Some technology improvement is needed to manage my basic business continuity plan.

I have been using Veritas Data Vault for the last five years. 

I find the solution to be stable.

The scalability is good.

Customer service has been good so far. I can relate to giving it an eight out of ten.

Earlier, I used Commvault. Currently, Veritas has replaced Commvault.

The initial setup was pretty smooth.

I had two or three people managing the implementation since the shelf had to be onboarded. Cabling was required, so three people were necessary.

Veritas has been pretty useful for managing functions and keeping everything comfortable.

The setup is a bit expensive at a corporate price and needs to be scaled down.

The way it helps me manage business-critical backups is effective. Overall, it is good so far, and I would rate it eight out of ten. 

Veritas is set to be integrated with AI and new technology to effectively manage backups and identify data duplication.

We are system integrators, and we have end users using different backup software solutions such as NetVault, Veritas, CommVault. If we have any requirements from users looking for Veritas or anything, we will look into it.

The main use cases for Veritas NetBackup appliance are not applicable as we actually use Veritas Backup Exec, which is a different product.

The main use cases for Veritas Backup Exec involve normal file system backups, and they are facing some issues with image backup, particularly in case of a hardware failure of any client systems, regarding how to recover it.

My customers find the normal file system backup features of Veritas Backup Exec effective and valuable.

Veritas Backup Exec is effective for managing backups.

I don't have hands-on experience with Veritas solutions, but I think it's on par with other backup software that we work on. The image backup functionality needs to be examined, because I know a few customers who are using Veritas Backup Exec find it difficult to take a proper image backup and perform image restoration in case of a hardware failure of the client. This process needs to be simplified or properly documented.

I haven't seen any challenges apart from those related to image backup with Veritas Backup Exec.

The disaster recovery capability is linked to the image backup aspect and how we can recover a server in case of disaster. We need to have a proper image backup with a documented restore procedure, as some users were unable to do the image backup restoration due to driver issues or similar challenges.

I don't recommend any improvement because we don't completely utilize the backup software functionality. We only look into particular features such as file system backup or specific database backups. Veritas Backup Exec does more than that, so our limited usage indicates that the product is good enough.

The improvement could be in making the disaster recovery procedure more user friendly.

I don't have any complaints regarding stability.

For scalability, I would rate it a ten.

I rate the platform's scalability as seven out of ten. There may be limitations on backing up or restoring large data sets. Enterprise software typically offers features like multiplexing to handle large amounts of data more efficiently than Backup Exec, primarily designed for smaller environments.

The technical support services are good.

I have used multiple software for data restoration.

The initial setup was straightforward. It's pretty user-friendly, although basic training is necessary. Any person with IT knowledge should be able to set it up. Depending on the hardware, the process could take around one hour to complete.

The product is inexpensive compared to enterprise software.

Our preliminary focus is restoring user folders, or email data backed up to the tapes. It is easy to set up and use for daily processes and a good solution for preserving crucial data.

I recommend it to others and rate it a nine out of ten.

Veritas Backup Exec is used to backup data. We backup databases, FLAC files, and Exchange databases.

The most valuable features of Veritas Backup Exec are the easy-to-use intuitive GUI. It is very easy to understand. I have never lost data and I have been able to recover all the data I need.

Veritas Backup Exec could improve the analytics. If there were some more detail in our scan reports it would be beneficial.

I have been using Veritas Backup Exec for approximately two years.

Veritas Backup Exec is highly stable. It is 99.99 percent stable.

The scalability of Veritas Backup Exec is good. Veritas has physical hardware appliances, and hard disks, you can easily upgrade your backup appliances to have more storage if needed. It is easy to scale.

We have approximately 200 people who use this solution in my organization. We are happy with the usage at this time.

I recommend this solution for large-scale and enterprise companies.

The support from Veritas Backup Exec could improve. The support we receive is offsite, and at times when we have an issue, the person helping may be in a different time zone. This has affected the quality of support.

I rate the support from Veritas Backup Exec a three out of five.

I have previously used Dell, Commvault, and HPE solutions. I have found Veritas Backup Exec is the best out of the solutions I have used.

The initial setup of Veritas Backup Exec is simple. The solution is easy to integrate into systems. You only need to have IP addresses and VLANs and then it is easy to set up.

I rate the price of Veritas Backup Exec a four out of five.

Our company is a construction company. We use the Veritas solution for our own company's work.

We schedule full server backups daily, biweekly, and monthly for our data from different locations. We have some projects, and we schedule backups to our head office. So far, the solution has worked perfectly.

When something goes down, and we need to restore data, the most used case is being able to restore it. Veritas Backup Exec allows you to restore down to the file level. Other solutions sometimes require you to restore the entire backup to get one file. 

So, it's good for saving time. Veritas Backup Exec ensures no corruption. So far, we've found it to be very good and crucial in data recovery.

Data protection for the backup is different because we use Veritas Backup Exec for two things: data protection and disaster recovery.

So, for me the most valuable aspect is being able to restore to the file level. That's the most important. It allows you to go deep until you restore whatever you need. 

Veritas can improve the user interface and the information displayed. Sometimes, I need to scroll a lot to get the information. The admin interface could also be improved so I can find all the information there. Most importantly,  Veritas should improve centralized backup. 

When I have Veritas Backup Exec installed in different locations, I need one centralized location where I can review all my backups.  Veritas have this, but it should be improved.

I have been using it for a long time, like ten years. 

It is a stable product. I would rate the stability an eight out of ten. 

It's scalable to our kind of work. We can deploy and install it in other projects or sites as needed, connect, and do our backups. So, it's scalable.

We have three people working on it and two monitoring it. A total of five.

I consider customer service and support very good and very responsive. They understand most of the problems. Even with an unknown problem, they will get back to us in a reasonable time.

The initial setup is super easy. An hour would be enough if we have a lot of things ready. Everything needs to be ready from your side: the server, previous versions, installing the application.

I did not find any integrations between the backup system and others other than Active Directory. Also, the integration between Veritas Backup Exec and other storage devices is easy.

If there is a centralized backup, one or two people will be enough, even with a high number of backup locations. 

If there is no centralized backup, it depends on how many locations and versions of backups you have in your environment. As much as you have, as many people as you need.

Usually, one person is enough to take care of the solution; if it's centralized, and you only have one or two, or even three, installed locations, then one person will be enough. 

But if you have 50-plus locations, then you need a centralized one. For that, one or two people will be enough. More than this? You'll need more people.

I would rate the pricing a seven out of ten, with ten being very expensive. The pricing is good. We have a yearly license. 

The total license cost is around 40,000 dollars. That's with add-ons and the total license.

The application itself is good. Overall, I would rate the solution an eight out of ten. 

If somebody wants a stable solution, reliable for time, and provides file-level restoration, I would recommend to go for it.

We use the backup solution.

The most important feature is the variety of backup applications it supports, including ERP systems and most other programs, such as Microsoft. It allows for simultaneous backups of multiple applications. The second advantage is the strong support provided. You can open tickets and receive prompt responses and assistance if any issues arise.

The solution could improve and adapt to new applications in the market so we can integrate Veritas Backup Exec with them to facilitate backup processes within these applications.

I have been using Veritas Backup Exec for 3 years.

Veritas is suitable for medium-sized companies across various market sectors such as retail, oil and gas, etc. We can receive additional licenses. There is no issue with storage.

I rate the solution’s scalability a 7 or 8 out of 10.

Technical support is good. They provide a good response after opening a ticket.

The initial setup is easy, depending on the market.

Firstly, we need to continue operating with the customer to understand their requirements. For example, they need the retention policy set for their email backups. Most customers prefer a weekly backup schedule and two to three months of retention. This clarification is crucial. However, during installation, it typically takes just one day for setup and configuration

In comparison with other vendors, Veritas is competitively priced.

We have options for disaster recovery. Some customers lack another branch or a secondary site. In such cases, we can install additional backup software at our site, enabling application recovery. This setup facilitates extensive testing at headquarters. You can restore from the secondary site or utilize cloud services. The backup jobs can be directed to cloud platforms like Microsoft Azure or Amazon Computers.

We have a partnership with Dell EMC. Dell EMC offers a backup appliance, and we can integrate Backup Exec into the backup software. However, we still need a Veritas backup appliance. The duplication ratio is 4x, but in terms of data demand, it's up to 36. Most backup software already has certification, but it's limited to 4-6x identification issues. However, in the case of a backup appliance, it's running up to 36 applications. If the customer doesn't have backup storage or backup protection for three servers, we can use duplication from Backup Exec.

SAP HANA Is limited in its capabilities. I recommend going with NetApp. NetApp is designed for enterprise applications like SAP HANA. It does backup and is well positioned for small and medium companies like Microsoft, including SharePoint and file servers. Customers have certifications like Microsoft 365 and Salesforce on the cloud.

Overall, I rate the solution a 9 out of 10.

Our primary use case for the product is managing backups for our centralized data center and distributed storage systems. 

The platform has significantly improved our backup and recovery processes by efficiently managing data protection and supporting tape drives. It has also provided reliable data recovery solutions.

The most valuable features include its efficient data backup to tape drives and excellent support system. It provides quick and effective responses to issues and has a robust support structure that assists with application concerns and technical problems.

One area for improvement is Veritas's pricing, which is higher than Veeam. Additionally, Veeam offers volume-based licensing, which is more cost-effective than Veritas's code-based licensing. Hence, reducing costs could make it more competitive.

We have been using Veritas Backup Exec for our backup solution for approximately one year.

The product is stable. 

The product is scalable. It accommodates growing data needs and can effectively handle large volumes of data. 

The customer service and support from Veritas have been excellent. They provide prompt responses and effective solutions to any issues encountered.

If cost is not a major concern and advanced support is needed, Veritas remains a strong choice. However, for those seeking a more affordable solution with competitive features, Veeam may be a better option.
