Comprehensive integration and user-friendly dashboard enhance data protection workflows
PowerProtect Data Manager lacks the tape-out functionality, which is important for organizations relying on it for offsite backup. While PowerProtect Data Manager offers a workaround, it's not always accepted, notably by sectors like banking. Additionally, I would like PowerProtect Data Manager to provide microservices and container backup for modern applications.

Simplified interface with good performance but needs monitoring
I need to use PowerStore and Veritas Backup Exec. It is a direct backup to types, and it is supported by my backup. It offers good performance and stability, and it works properly. I am happy with this program. It is still working on aligning with security requirements and data encryption for Amazon or ATAC. It has a lot of functions and security measures, which ensure our backups are secure.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"I would say flexibility is the most important feature of the product. The performance and speed are the best on the market."
"One notable feature is its robust backup support for Kubernetes and container environments. Additionally, PPDM stands out for its ease of deployment and management compared to other backup solutions. It is highly user-friendly, allowing users to quickly learn and implement backup and restore processes within a week. PPDM represents the next generation of backup software and is comparable to offerings from other vendors. Furthermore, PPDM prioritizes security with various access controls, such as user and database access controls. Its deployment tool is also known for its simplicity."
"It's the perfect solution for virtual and container directives. The data reduction feature works well, and we haven't had any issues."
"Dell PowerProtect Data Manager helps to reduce the amount of data being transferred and stored."
"The management part of Dell PowerProtect Data Manager has improved significantly."
"The most valuable feature of the solution is its integrated approach."
"The solution adequately handles data storage."
"Dell PowerProtect Data Manager is a comprehensive backup software that integrates with Dell backup storage to enhance data protection."
"It's quite stable, and so far, we have had no technical issues with Veritas Backup Exec."
"It is a good backup tool."
"The product allows for versatile storage options, enabling users to store data on disk storage, NAS storage, or tape libraries."
"Backup Exec 2012 R2 is a very good product for the Windows file system and SQL backups. It is very user-friendly, but the next version Backup Exec 2014 that is released and the other next versions of Backup Exec product is not so friendly."
"This is a very flexible product, which allows you to back up not only the physical environment but also the cloud environment."
"The product provides automated and faster data backup and recovery compared to other vendors."
"It is easy to set up and use for daily processes and a good solution for preserving crucial data."
"The one thing for the last 12 months which has been very good for Veritas was the instance-based license. This means that you're able to license per instance, not only per physical server."

Cons

"The tool's scalability has certain shortcomings, making it an area where improvements are required."
"They should include a feature similar to S3 bucket."
"PPDM requires further development. It is primarily integrated with DevOps systems."
"The main issue that needs improvement is the support system. When I raise a ticket, it sometimes takes a while to get a response."
"There is always room for improvement. The compression ratio should be improved as well as the efficiency."
"As a new product, there are some things that still need to improve a bit as it matures."
"The interface is too complex."
"A lot of improvement is required in Dell's first level of support."
"The backup is not robust enough when you have a lot of technology."
"There still a lot of room for improvement in synthetic technologies, especially when targeted to deduplication media."
"We've experienced some performance issues with Backup Exec. The backup jobs take too long to complete."
"The solution could improve by having better documentation."
"I wish that they have an outlet for the other products from Veritas built into the Backup Exec product. For example, Backup Exec does only server backup. Currently, it is possible to read the backup of one other product, but if they can add more products so that you can just go into the dashboard of these other products by clicking on a button within the Backup Exec product, it would be great."
"Firstly, the GUI for 2014 is mostly confusing, i.e., if you need to add any additional technical features, then it doesn't require a change to the GUI."
"Veritas Backup Exec's support services could be faster."
"We need to have duplication and better compression."

"The product is offered at a very competitive price in the market."
"We offer monthly or yearly subscriptions. The price could be cheaper."
"Licensing depends on the part of the backup you're using. If you have SQL backup, then you must have a SQL license. If you have normal data backup, you would require a license for that."
"Its price is a bit high. There is only the standard fee. There is no additional fee."
"The pricing is good."
"The pricing can be improved."
"The price of Veritas Backup Exec could be reduced and we pay annually for the license. However, compared to other solutions, such as Veeam, it is less expensive."
"There is an evaluation license available to test this solution."
"The solution could be more cost-effective."
"I rate the product's pricing a six out of ten."
