We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The most valuable aspect is the added protection of having a cloud-based backup service. It provides redundancy in case of data loss.""For starters, this is one of few databases that allow us to backup MySQL databases, most others only support Microsoft SQL. This solution also has a very user-friendly interface accessed through a web browser. Additionally, backups can be easily configured through N-able Backup.""The ease of use and the console are great.""Because the package includes cloud storage, we don't need to worry about hosting it inside. That was very important to us. And because the vendor has data centers worldwide, our reps in Europe and other places can get to what they need quickly and easily.""The ability to back up, restore, and do different types of testing for the preventative maintenance has really increased our importance to these clients because they see the value in how fast we can get them back up and running. We're saving them money in that way.""It's their cloud, it's their storage. I don't have to buy a space on Amazon or Google's cloud and then use their software to push it. That works well for me. This way, I don't have to worry about another option or the opportunity that there might be a credential leak.""The user interface is the most valuable. It gives us the ability to check everything. With more than 100 endpoints running that software, I like the ability to quickly check that everything is working correctly. That's one of the biggest selling points."

"It is a scalable product.""The backup potential of the solution is very good. It's protected us in the past very well and allowed us to get up and running after an attack with minimal loss.""It has good stability. Its interface is very good, responsive, and easy for restoring data. I use it for backup, encryption, and restore operations, and it works. I am using many agents from VM to LMDP. I also use an agent for SQL Server, which has advanced options because it is the Enterprise version.""It's quite stable, and so far, we have had no technical issues with Veritas Backup Exec.""This solution is not complex and you do not have to be too technical to use it.""The most valuable features of Veritas Backup Exec are the easy-to-use intuitive GUI. It is very easy to understand. I have never lost data and I have been able to recover all the data I need.""Veritas is good for small environments.""Veritas Backup Exec is easily managed."

Cons
"This solution is not very good for image restores, mainly just files. The solution also does not allow you to enable or disable backups. Sometimes, our users will connect via mobile device and it will use their data to perform the backup. If they were able to enable and disable the backup, they would not have this issue.""For the MSP side, they could have more of a "security user" that can go in and only see certain clients. If you give somebody access as a technician, they can see all the clients.""The recovery side, the restore side, could be a little more optimized.""A disaster recovery console would be an improvement for the product.""One area I don't like has to do with the agent that goes on the system... if a system stays offline for some length of time, say for a week or so, I may have to go back in and reinstall the agent to get it back in business. I don't know what's causing that.""I have some issues with the agent failing on workstations. I've had to completely uninstall several of them, delete everything, and start over to get them to work.""A feature I'd like to see would be a more customizable admin console."

"We've experienced some performance issues with Backup Exec. The backup jobs take too long to complete.""There needs to be an integration process of the endpoint devices so that we don't have to redo everything for different products.""Veritas Backup Exec could improve the analytics. If there were some more detail in our scan reports it would be beneficial.""The backup is not robust enough when you have a lot of technology.""I would like to improve their ability to back up the cloud environment. Additionally, it would be nice to have simpler UI.""There is no training provided, and their technicians are unaware of the features available.""I would like to be able to create a restore task that can be scheduled so that the same restore action will be performed automatically.""We need to have duplication and better compression."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "There is no per node cost, at least not the way I am doing it. I am on bulk. New customers can be set up on a trial, where they can get things all squared away, then they can switch over to being a billed customer."
  • "I believe that the price is very reasonable in comparison to other options. It is cheaper than both Redstor and Acronis and, since we are now using our own on-premise cloud, there is absolutely no comparison since we have unlimited storage rather than paying per gigabyte used for their onsite storage. We are currently able to backup fifty computers for the same price that we use to backup five computers."
  • "The only option I would like to see is an adjustable scale. Right now we have 250 seats and we're not using all of them. It would be nice to be able to save that little bit of money by being able to buy just what we need."
  • "Cove only takes the data you have on the physical server. I can back that up for long periods of time, and I don't accrue high charges to have the data in the cloud. It stays at one rate. This allows me to forecast payment for the next one or two years and show clients their estimated growth."
  • "The price isn't extreme, but I'd love to pay less."
  • "The pricing is very competitive and it's well worth the price."
  • More N-able Cove Data Protection Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "This product is priced for smaller customers."
  • "There is an evaluation license available to test this solution."
  • "The pricing can be improved."
  • "Licensing depends on the part of the backup you're using. If you have SQL backup, then you must have a SQL license. If you have normal data backup, you would require a license for that."
  • "It is not an expensive product."
  • "The solution could be more cost-effective."
  • "The price is reasonable for the features it offers."
  • "The price of Veritas Backup Exec could be reduced and we pay annually for the license. However, compared to other solutions, such as Veeam, it is less expensive."

    Reviews from Real Users

Below are some reviews and helpful feedback written by Veritas Backup Exec users.

An IT Network Analyst at a manufacturing company says, “The backup potential of the solution is very good. It's protected us in the past very well and allowed us to get up and running after an attack with minimal loss. As far as if we need to restore a file, the solution absolutely has improved the way our organization functions. It saves us a lot of time. We're backing up all of our servers with it.”

PeerSpot user Masoud G., Senior Network Administrator at MapnaBE, mentions, “I prefer to use a tape library and Veritas Backup Exec is fully compatible with different tape libraries. So I prefer this software. It also has easy user and file recovery.”

Kayode O., Chief Technology Officer at a tech company, explains, “This solution creates a differential backup to reduce storage requirements. This solution is not complex and you do not have to be too technical to use it. Veritas offers granular restore, which is an option that many other solutions do not have. It allows you to restore, for example, a single SharePoint document, rather than an entire site.”

Rowland G., Product Brand Manager at Epsidon Technology Distribution, states, “The one thing for the last 12 months which has been very good for Veritas was the instance-based license. This means that you're able to license per instance, not only per physical server. And also, the incremental backup which they introduced for virtual servers, where it makes it much quicker to restore, it just automatically is able to mount it back to the original backup. This makes it much quicker when you're doing the restore.”
