A suitable choice for unified and efficient infrastructure monitoring across diverse environments providing user-friendly GUI, cost-effectiveness, and versatility
Pros and Cons
  • "Nagios Fusion version 12.8 excels in user-friendly GUI design, cost-effectiveness, and ease of deployment."
  • "In future iterations of this solution, there is a desire for more seamless integration with other monitoring software."

What is our primary use case?

We use it for this specific client, they've deployed multiple instances of it across various locations to facilitate monitoring. To effectively monitor their infrastructure, it seems necessary to implement additional monitoring solutions for all three types of devices they have.

What is most valuable?

Nagios Fusion version 12.8 excels in user-friendly GUI design, cost-effectiveness, and ease of deployment. These factors contribute to a seamless experience for customers, allowing them to efficiently utilize the product's features without encountering challenges or complications.

What needs improvement?

In future iterations of this solution, there is a desire for more seamless integration with other monitoring software.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using it for ten years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

There are occasional bugs that require me to reach out to the support team for resolution.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is highly scalable, I would rate it nine out of ten. There are approximately ten people actively using it.

How are customer service and support?

I am satisfied with its technical support and I would rate it nine out of ten.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

In my experience with monitoring solutions, I've encountered a diverse range of options in the market, including offerings from upper-tier companies like SolarWinds and ManageEngine. I've had clients with smaller environments seeking cost-effective solutions, while others with larger setups require top-of-the-rack and on-the-shelf products.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was straightforward.

What about the implementation team?

Typically, once the infrastructure is upgraded to support Python, the authorization and deployment processes take approximately three weeks, which includes fine-tuning. It is essential to dedicate at least a week to personnel training. I manage approximately ten installations, with about three to four being Nagios on-premises solutions and two utilizing Nagios Fusion.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The pricing is quite reasonable, especially when compared to the broader market. It is versatile and suitable for use by smaller businesses, not exclusively tailored for larger organizations.

What other advice do I have?

Overall, I would rate it eight out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises

Helps to make sure everything runs smoothly and reliably
Pros and Cons
  • "Being open source lets us customize it for our monitoring needs, saving us money."
  • "Adding application performance monitoring to the product alongside infrastructure monitoring would make it a more complete and useful solution."

What is our primary use case?

I use Nagios Fusion to keep an eye on lots of servers and network devices. It tells me when things like memory or CPU usage get too high by sending alerts. I also use it to check if servers are working or not and make sure everything in our IT system is healthy, including network devices. Nagios Fusion helps me make sure everything runs smoothly and reliably.

How has it helped my organization?

What is most valuable?

We find Nagios Fusion's open-source nature most valuable. The software is free, and we only pay for server hosting. Being open source lets us customize it for our monitoring needs, saving us money.

What needs improvement?

There are no major areas for improvement to suggest. However, adding application performance monitoring to the product alongside infrastructure monitoring would make it a more complete and useful solution.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Nagios Fusion for three months.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I would rate the stability a nine out of ten. We haven't faced any issues with Nagios Fusion so far.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I would rate the scalability of the product an eight out of ten. Five people use it at our company.

How was the initial setup?

The setup process for Nagios is more involved compared to simpler solutions like Dynatrace. Since everything was already set up when I joined the company, I haven't had to install any agents or go through the installation process myself. I have mainly used the Nagios dashboard for monitoring without dealing with the setup intricacies.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Dynatrace is very different from Nagios Fusion. It has a lot more features and capabilities, but it's also quite expensive. Due to budget limitations, I had to abandon our POC with Dynatrace for our company.

What other advice do I have?

Overall, I would rate Nagios Fusion a nine out of ten.
