Axway AMPLIFY Managed File Transfer Reviews

We use the application to transfer and exchange data files between customers and vendors.

AMPLIFY has all the essential features for managing file transfer.

We are using Axway AMPLIFY Managed File Transfer for managed file transfer, specifically for moving files from one system to another, across different entities globally, such as from New Zealand to Australia, Thailand, Japan, etc.

It is used for transporting gigabytes of data and supports the standard SFTP protocol among others.

It gives a good amount of storage capacity for a reasonable price and supports a lot of different protocols.

I use the solution in my company for regular file transfer as well as encryption and description of files. It is used as a platform providing users the facility for uploading and downloading files. The tool is mainly used as a postman for picking and dropping files to multiple locations and doing some transformation if required.

When it comes to the tool's scalability, I cannot say that everything can be done in the best version. There is always a scope for improvement. The tool can try to make it a little bit more flexible so that we can easily invoke the APIs, and in such a way, it can be made a little bit better. In general, everything is fine with respect to the tool's scalability.

My company has encountered some challenges. The tool does not allow the explicit port for some of the protocols, like FTP. We are still selling the tool to some of our clients. I feel they should allow us to do some testing for the SMB-related protocols or Windows path-related protocols, which we are not allowing, making it difficult for us to identify the issue with respect to those SMB protocols as well as Amazon S3's protocols. I believe it is an area that needs to be fixed so that it will help the end customer do those types of tests without the help of another external tool. As of now, I can remember only these two scenarios where improvements are needed.

We deploy Axway Amplify to a server hosted on AWS, but it isn't a cloud SaaS solution. We use it for large-scale file transfers. Our client had multiple vendors with whom they exchanged payroll and shipment-related files. We use Amplify externally to exchange files with vendors and internally on our 500 servers, which talk to each other using the files. All the file transfers transfer for that client went through this application, including the encryption, file check, etc.

Before implementing Axway, we were doing script-based point-to-point file transfers using a shell script. That means if a file has to go from server A to server B, we have to open a network port within those two servers. It got kind of messy as the number of servers and the file transfer requirements grew. 

Axway consolidated all of our communications into one platform, simplifying network and port management. Now, all we have to do is open one port to this application, and we can remove all the firewall rules on that port. It's much more straightforward to manage from a security perspective. We used to rely on an archaic FTP solution, but Axway features SFTP, so it was an improvement security-wise. 

If I want to have a file here and I want to get it to someone, then we can use file transfer to encrypt the file from my location to the new location. It’s a managed file transfer. It’s a secure line. We can transfer one file or hundreds of files. We can also receive encrypted files. It’s always checking to see if the files we send or receive are 100% safe.

There's some programming you can use however you like. There are different loaders, from user passwords to connections to different levels of databases and you can use it from Oracle, Windows, you name it. It’s very flexible.

I will have to go at a very high level in my description because I use it for my clients. It is used to transfer files, especially those of big size.

It is an easy-to-use and stable product.

We use the platform as a gateway for data exchange between internal and external applications.

The product is simple for encrypting data transfer of all the assets in our system. The key advantage is to provide a robust DMZ environment.
