What is our primary use case?
I started using
Windows Server 2022 in my role to manage a team that works on front-end technologies which is hosted on either Linux or Windows, but my focus is on the front end.
We are using Windows Server 2022 to build applications for customers because our customers need software to be installed. They require automation for business processes, and we use these servers to build those applications.
I have not worked with Microsoft Defender for Endpoint; my team builds applications using front-end technologies such as React JS and Angular JS, and we also build some mobile applications using iOS and Android. We use Windows or Linux to host these applications, and we have mostly moved to cloud services such as AWS.
What is most valuable?
The biggest advantage of Windows Server 2022 for me is the impressive user experience, especially the navigational aspects, which make it easier to navigate. The reliability and availability part is also good.
Security is very critical for me, particularly because most of our customers are banks and financial institutions, and they want security to be embedded in every layer, whether it's the front end, back end, or the database layer. Security is a must.
Hardware Root-of-Trust and firmware protection are very important for maintaining data integrity because data is the critical source for any business, and I ensure that there is security and that the hardware and firmware are reliable, which I get from reliable partners.
What needs improvement?
The performance part of Windows Server 2022 can be improved further because, compared to cloud solutions, its performance lags if it is an in-house server that you have installed. The scalability and performance can still be improved because the response times are slower compared to what I get from cloud.
I am not comparing Windows Server 2022 with any specific tools; instead, I am trying to compare it with the requirements given by the customers. Customers state that there is a certain SLA within which I have to deliver the response, and that impacts customer experience.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been dealing with Windows Server 2022 for more than five to ten years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I would agree that Windows Server 2022 is 99 percent stable and reliable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Windows Server 2022 is scalable. It is not that it is not scalable, but most of the clients prefer
AWS for scalability compared to Microsoft.
How are customer service and support?
My thoughts on Microsoft technical support service are that it is good.
I would give Microsoft technical support an eight out of ten.
How was the initial setup?
The installation and deployment for Windows Server 2022 are straightforward.
What was our ROI?
The ROI I see with the cost of Windows Server 2022 is that maybe the cost is compensated by the security aspects, and I may have to pay a premium for security, which is why most customers may prefer it. Personally, I prefer Linux because of the performance part of it, but customers may prefer Windows Server 2022 due to the high-security controls in place.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
I would say the license for Windows Server 2022 is slightly expensive compared to others in the market.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
I have been dealing with Linux as a similar product to compare with Windows Server 2022.
The main differences I see between Windows Server 2022 and Linux is that Linux is more widely used, and I think it is because of the performance or the cost; most of my clients prefer Linux-hosted servers, so I would prefer Linux over Microsoft.
What other advice do I have?
I have not worked with
Azure Arc.
The deployment model for Windows Server 2022 in my environment is mostly hybrid, specifically private cloud, because financial institutions want high security.
I deal with different cloud providers including Google Cloud, and some clients prefer Azure because of their technologies such as .NET. However, I mostly use AWS and then Azure.
I have more than 15 years of experience with servers and operating systems. I would give Windows Server 2022 a final rating of seven out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Private Cloud
If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?
Amazon Web Services (AWS)
