Highly scalable, very good technical support, with competitive features
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable features are the ones that control the leaking."
  • "The application itself individuals are getting annoyed with it. They are looking to integrate with ABB applications regardless of whether it is Android or iOS based. We are wanting to shift from this application because of the integration issues we are facing."

What is our primary use case?

Our primary use case is to control the email services for mobile devices and we are controlling that just to avoid leakage of the information for those devices.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable features are the ones that control the leaking.

What needs improvement?

The application itself individuals are getting annoyed with it. They are looking to integrate with ABB applications regardless of whether it is Android or iOS based. We are wanting to shift from this application because of the integration issues we are facing.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with VMware Workspace ONE for the past three years.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We currently have around one thousand end users.

How are customer service and support?

I have spoken with technical support many times. I would rate them an eight on a scale of one to ten.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is moderately complex. On a scale of one to five, I would rate that a five. The deployment time takes about seven months.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The pricing currently is higher than the competition.

What other advice do I have?

It is based on the requirements. If he has Intune and has the Microsoft license already in place, it is based on those requirements, and based on the circumstances. But ultimately it is a good choice, I would not say it is a bad choice. I would rate VMware Workspace ONE an eight on a scale of one to ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Utilization of many application, useful Kiosk mode, and helpful customer support
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable feature depends on the use case of the clients. However, one feature I like is the Kiosk Mode. In the Kiosk Mode in most cases, the clients only can make available one application developed by the solution and permit the employee or the final client to use only this one application for interaction. This provides a security control layer limiting only one application functionally."
  • "There are other solutions that might be better for certain use cases. This is not an all-purpose solution."

What is our primary use case?

The solution has VMware Horizon embedded which allows the utilization of many types of applications. We inform our clients how they can use this tool to convert applications and move them inside any type of device, such as tablets and smartphones.

There is a lot to learn in the process, you need to create a new policy to include mobility and security. The security policy is important when it comes to mobility. You have VMware Workspace ONE with Horizon, to bring the older type of devices, such as bring your own device (BYOD), all consolidated in the same console.

You can make many types of applications available, not only applications developed for mobility or smartphone but any older types of applications can be brought together. We showcase all these features to our clients for them to have an understanding of what can be created by this type of system. Because of the pandemic, the mobility market here in Brazil will soon grow and there is a need for innovating, the purchases of this solution have grown a lot in the last year.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature depends on the use case of the clients. However, one feature I like is the Kiosk Mode. In the Kiosk Mode in most cases, the clients only can make available one application developed by the solution and permit the employee or the final client to use only this one application for interaction. This provides a security control layer limiting only one application functionally.

What needs improvement?

There are other solutions that might be better for certain use cases. This is not an all-purpose solution.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this solution for approximately six years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

VMware provides the use of the cloud which allows the client the ability to create more research inside this environment and can expand quite well.

If the client has an on-premise solution or has an older environment there can be some challenges. I need to understand if more storage, virtual machines, or other types of additions is need to be made to create a higher availability. It is important for the client to share with me the limitations of their operation to allow me to figure out a proper solution to get around their limitations.

How are customer service and technical support?

The technical support is very good. The agent was always helpful and responsive.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have previously used MobileIron and Intune and along with this solution, are the top three. Depending on the use case, one might be better than the other and the main difference is the cost.

How was the initial setup?

The installation and configuring of the solution are easy for a beginner. We help clients with some parts of the environment if needed but mostly the solution is straightforward to understand.

In a standard version, one week is enough to start using the solution, configuring the GUI, and getting through any obstacles that might be encountered. At this point, there can be discussions about the cost. The disadvantage of the older type of license is I need more time to understand the whole installation environment and processes. For example, whether I need to do some integrations or not.

What about the implementation team?

We do the implementation of this solution.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

For most of the projects, we use the standard license but for complex ones, we use the older type of processes, integrations, and licenses inside the solution.

What other advice do I have?

Apple and Google need to improve the APIs internally to permit VMware access to updates and use this to create granular security policies inside devices, such as smartphones and tablets. A lot of the time we have to use an older approach because Google and Apple do not release these APIs to VMware. However, they release the same APIs for their own solutions, for example, Apple uses their own configuration.

I rate VMware Workspace ONE a nine out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

We currently find it is a stable product. We do not have to worry anymore about our data.
Pros and Cons
  • "No issues with scalability."
  • "Setup is not too complex."

What is our primary use case?

We currently have 50-100 employees, and are growing towards 100 employees. We use some of our devices quite confidentially, and we use AirWatch to protect those devices. We want to separate personal data, and the company data because our employees are using their personal smart phone to access our email. It is just for data the email.

What is most valuable?

I don't have to worry anymore about my data after I used the EMM.

What needs improvement?

I want to see VMware move the management to the cloud. For now, the management is the premise of our server, but we want to move it to the cloud.

For how long have I used the solution?

Less than one year.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Yes, this product is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Our company is still pretty small, so I have no issues with scalability at the moment. I have heard that this VMware product can manage over 20,000 employees. We are not at that stage of need yet.

How was the initial setup?

The premise is that you just have to install the software. We had already programmed the server. It was a bit complex on the setting up of the policy, at first. Once the policy was done, then we had to update. Every so often, we still need to update. It's not too complex.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I have no opinion about the pricing.

What other advice do I have?

VMware is the better solution versus other things that are out there. It is an EMM to help us problem solve issues.

Provides IT with security control over email yet end-users have flexibility in accessing email
Pros and Cons
  • "It's all about securing data with the help of the email client called VMware Boxer. It enables the end-user to carry data in their mobile devices but there is containerization between the personal data and the organization's data. It helps enhance their security while still carrying their own BYOD."
  • "People who want to adopt this solution may be thinking about it from the end-user's perspective, but this solution is also very friendly for the people who manage it. It's administration-friendly."

What is our primary use case?

We use it for containerization and email management, EMM.

How has it helped my organization?

Previously, my end-users would carry their complete email in their Outlook client. After we started using this solution, people started to use our actual email, with the help of the mobile client. It enables people to access their mail from wherever they want, whenever they want, and however they want. It enables users to carry a highly manageable platform and also a highly secure one.

In terms of IT, we can achieve security control, but from the end-user's point of view they have flexibility in how they use their mail.

    What is most valuable?

It's all about securing data with the help of the email client called VMware Boxer. It enables end-users to carry data in their mobile devices but there is containerization between the personal data and the organization's data. It helps enhance their security, while still carrying their own BYOD.

Redundancy, manageability, and lack of complexity, are the typical things which make people choose VMware AirWatch.

For how long have I used the solution?

    One to three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Whatever product you choose in the VMware portfolio, everything is stable and very reliable. It is very controlled and very stable for product usage and in terms of manageability.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We have definitely not had any issues with scalability. It is highly redundant, highly scalable.

    How was the initial setup?

It is very easy to deploy. For the installation and configuration, we had straightforward documentation. With the help of consultants and architects, we developed the right design. They helped us to move forward.

If you ask me, in terms of installation, configuration, management, and monitoring, this solution is far better than others.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

In terms of pricing, this solution is definitely much more expensive compared to other solutions, like MobileIron or MaaS360 or any other product in the market. This solution is more expensive by 30 or 40 percent. That is very hard because, while enterprise companies can afford for this pricing, if you look at the SMB sector, they can't afford this pricing, and they won't adopt this kind of technology.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We did a pilot of MaaS360.

When compared to other mobility solutions:

We think VMware AirWatch stands ahead of the other solutions. Other players can improve their functionalities and features by looking at the features of VMware AirWatch. This product is much more stable, much more compliant, and much more redundant. Also, rolling out the solution is much easier when compared to other products or vendors.

What other advice do I have?

This is a reliable solution, not like other vendors which may be good in some areas but lack in other areas. When compared to other products, AirWatch is highly scalable, redundant, reliable, and easily manageable. People who want to adopt this solution may be thinking about it from the end-user's perspective, but this solution is also very friendly for the people who manage it. It's administration-friendly.

Easy to use, works well, and is worth the money
    Pros and Cons
    • "It was easy to use."
    • "There could be ease of integration within the environment. I didn't have any issues when using it, but the integration part was a bit difficult for the other team."

What is our primary use case?

We used it for the backup and restore. If you have some sort of data that you've lost, you can restore from a previous snapshot.

How has it helped my organization?

It was an excellent product. It was very good for recovering lost files and folders for customers.

    What is most valuable?

It was easy to use. I don't really remember it very well. I used it for a short time frame, but it was fairly easy to use. It was fairly streamlined and worked well to some extent for backup.

    What needs improvement?

There could be ease of integration within the environment. I didn't have any issues when using it, but the integration part was a bit difficult for the other team.

For how long have I used the solution?

I used it in my previous position for about a year and a half. I believe it was the latest version.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I'd rate it an eight out of ten in terms of stability.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It's scalable. There were probably over a thousand machines.

How are customer service and support?

I have not used their support.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We didn't use any other solution.

    How was the initial setup?

I didn't set it up. It was set up by a different team for the customer. I was only responsible for managing the backup and recovering the files. Its implementation took about six months period.

In terms of maintenance, it was just myself. There wasn't much maintenance to do apart from getting the latest version and ensuring it was applied to all machines.

    What was our ROI?

It was definitely worth the money. It was an excellent product.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

There was a commercial team that dealt with that. My guess is that its licensing was yearly. There was probably no fee in addition to the standard licensing fee.

What other advice do I have?

I'd recommend it. I'd rate it an eight out of ten.

Very good device management and good integration with third parties
    Pros and Cons
    • "Good device management and good integration with third parties."
    • "Lacks a modern enterprise mobility management platform."

What is our primary use case?

We deploy this solution for enterprise-size organizations. We are VMware partners and resellers. I am the CEO of a system integration company.

    What is most valuable?

Valuable features of this solution are the device management and the good integration with third parties. The product has improved steadily over the years.

    What needs improvement?

I'd like to see a more Microsoft-oriented product with a modern enterprise mobility management platform fully integrated with a Windows ecosystem and the capability to natively integrate with SCCM for a common management for a hybrid workspace. The solution lacks a specific environment such as Windows. I would also like to see a more specific customization for each single platform, such as macOS, Apple devices, and the like. It would make the product more competitive.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using this solution for over five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

    The solution is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

    The solution is scalable.

How are customer service and support?

The technical support is usually quite good once you escalate past the first level.

    How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is an easy process. It's more complex than if it were a cloud solution but comparing the platform with some other on-premise solutions it's quite easy.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Licensing costs are similar to other products and I believe the cost is reasonable.

What other advice do I have?

The solution is good, particularly the latest version. I would recommend moving to the Cloud version, because I believe there is a VMware offset version of the product.

I rate this solution eight out of 10.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

    On-premises

User-friendly, scalable, and stable digital platform for app delivery and management
    Pros and Cons
    • "App delivery and management platform that's user-friendly, with a good interface. Easy to scale, easy to set up, with good stability."
    • "Integration with Microsoft needs improvement. There are some dependencies with Microsoft that aren't 100% yet, for example: compliance synchronization."

What is our primary use case?

VMware Workspace ONE is used mainly for mobile device management.

    What is most valuable?

What I found most valuable in VMware Workspace ONE is that it's user-friendly. It has a good interface for users to get access to applications and files. It's also a good source of feedback between IT and users.

    What needs improvement?

A room for improvement for this product is its integration with Microsoft. It could be better, though most of it is there. There are some dependencies with Microsoft that aren't 100% yet, for example: compliance synchronization. It's something VMware is probably working on, but that's what's missing currently.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been working with VMware Workspace ONE for six years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

VMware Workspace ONE is a stable solution.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

VMware Workspace ONE is scalable. When they're in the cloud, scaling will be handled by VMware, but for on-premises environments, it's easy to scale up if you need more resources for servers.

How are customer service and support?

VMware technical support is good. It depends on what trouble we get, but if there's a known fix, they're able to fix it fast. If there's a fix that needs to be created, they will focus on it and prioritize it.

    How was the initial setup?

The initial setup for this solution is straightforward, especially because I've done this for six years. If you know what you're doing, setting it up is easy.

    What about the implementation team?

This solution was implemented in-house. I could probably have done everything, but I don't have time to do everything myself, so we work as a team and share tasks between us. We don't need VMware tech support for the deployment, not unless we find some bugs.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

VMware Workspace ONE has a yearly license. You pay upfront for one year. You have to buy licenses for one year at a time.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

    I evaluated Microsoft Enterprise Mobility.

What other advice do I have?

I work as a consultant, so I'm working with VMware Workspace ONE for my customers. I work with several different versions of this solution, but mostly with the latest version, and it will also depend on the requirement. Deployment is both on-premises and on cloud.

Completing the deployment for a cloud configuration of VMware Workspace ONE depends on how much you want to do, but a good, basic configuration could take three to five days.

We work with different customers, so this solution scales from a few hundred to several thousand users. I'm working mainly with iOS, Android, and macOS. They also have colleagues that handle the Windows desktop configurations.

The number of people needed for a VMware Workspace ONE deployment varies. I can't do everything alone, but if you are running it on-premises, the company should have resources, including handling vacations and sickness. There should be available resources for its deployment.

I'm giving VMware Workspace ONE a score of eight out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

    Hybrid Cloud

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

It's more mature than competitors and better integrated as a whole solution
    Pros and Cons
    • "Workspace ONE adds a lot of value compared to Microsoft because Microsoft is a late entry into the market, and they're still developing their product from an end-user perspective. Workspace ONE has a slight edge because of AirWatch. VMware has developed its product over a longer period of time, so they have better integrations as a whole solution."
    • "Windows 10 management is there, but VMware only recently developed that part, and it's not fully mature. Patch management and other integrations are there as well as the application-pushing part, command line, mandatory commands, etc. Some out-of-the-box solutions should be available to better integrate a broader range of applications and handle application push. That's the roadmap we should look at."

What is our primary use case?

We deploy Workspace ONE for our customers for Windows, Mac, and modern desktop Windows 10 management. It also provides MDM capability and application push for their mobile devices. That's the use case we are focusing on — application push and patch management. That's the modern management we are doing right now.

    What is most valuable?

Workspace ONE adds a lot of value compared to Microsoft because Microsoft is a late entry into the market, and they're still developing their product from an end-user perspective. Workspace ONE has a slight edge because of AirWatch. VMware has developed its product over a longer period of time, so they have better integrations as a whole solution.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using VMware Workspace ONE for ourselves as well as for our customers for nearly five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

WorkspaceONE's stability is excellent. I haven't seen any issues in the last four years— no major disasters.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We are managing around 30,000 endpoints and devices, so it's a highly scalable solution. We're recommending our customers renew the solution. We might grow 5 to 10 percent in the next year.

How are customer service and support?

VMware tech support is professional. There are delays sometimes, but it's good overall.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

A long time ago, I was using Blackberry.

    How was the initial setup?

Workspace ONE is relatively easy to install. A few things are complicated from a high availability perspective. Otherwise, it's straightforward. Total deployment took one week. One person can deploy and manage the solution.

What other advice do I have?

I rate Workspace ONE nine out of 10. Users are working from home all over the world, so companies need to consider things from a security perspective and the segregation of personal use from office work.
