Veeam Backup & Replication Reviews

We use it for replication purposes. It makes recovery simple and we can also have a dummy recovery in order to show auditors and our superiors that our backup software really works.

In Veeam backup, the most valuable feature for me is the recovery. It allows me to recover almost immediately while I continue fixing the problem of the affected machine.

I would like to see the licensing model improved. They have recently changed the model and have made it more complicated.

I've been using Veeam since 2016. I'm currently on Veeam ONE version 11. The solution is deployed on-prem.

The product doesn't require any specific maintenance. In our company, there are currently 10 people working with Veeam backup.

The solution is stable. The performance is all right. When you are using VMware hypervisor, it sometimes has minor issues, but they are not something to tell home about.

The solution is extremely scalable.

Technical support really went out of the way to assist me. They even came to our offices to help us out with the issue we were experiencing at the time.

We previously used the Symantec product, but it wasn't up to standard. We switched to Veeam because of its ease of use.

It's simple. It's a straightforward process.

Installation was done internally by our team. Deployment took about three hours 

The solution is expensive, but it's value for money.

I would rate this solution 8 out of 10. 

My advice is to watch the admin videos available on the Veeam website.

We primarily use the solution as a backup.

From our view, from HPE, the engineering teams of HPE and Veeam are working together, and we are developing some products. There is a tight integration between Veeam's product, Veeam Backup and Recovery, and HPE storage products.

This is, I can say, a win-win approach. Most of the features that we can use with HPE products are directly integrated with the Veeam. This is very important for the customers to have only one pane of glass to manage the backups and also use the HPE products for the backups.

One thing that is always requested by the customers is to have new functionalities integrated very rapidly into the product. There are always new features that we must integrate. The market is pushing very hard to have new functionalities.

Right now, for example, there is a very high demand for protection against ransomware, and we want to integrate the data immutability features in Veeam and integration with HPE products.

For example, in the case of Veeam, they have many other partners. They have Dell. They have Pure Storage. They have NetApp also. For the engineering of Veeam, it's not very easy to integrate the features of all the third-party partners. I can say that the relationship between Veeam and HPE is very strong. We are working on 10 projects. Half of the backup projects that we have with Veeam most of the time.

There are certain solutions, such as Rubrik and Cohesity, that are little by little, taking market share. Veeam needs to be more aggressive to keep their dominance in the space.

I'm in the storage business for more than 20 years. From the beginning, I used to work with VM backups. It's one of the major projects that I handle on the customer side. I used to work with Veeam as it is the leader on the market for VM backups. I used to work with Veeam.

It's a very nice product. The feedback from the customers is that most of the time, it's very good. We install it, and that's all. It works. It's a great product. The only thing is when we have very important environments, I can say it's a little bit complex.

It's so easy to set up that sometimes the breadth of the product is not very well used by the customers, as there are a lot of features inside. Unfortunately, the customers don't have enough time to see all the features that they can use to improve their backups.

In the data center, with HPE, they have some entities in Veeam. We have gateways. We have proxies. As soon as we have some scalability, to size these entities is not very easy. All the time we must work with a Veeam architect to set up the right environment. It's not so easy regarding scalability. It's mostly for large enterprises. For 80-90% of customers, it's very easy. However, for the 20 remaining percent, it's not very easy. It's not so easy, as there are so many features in Veeam that sometimes they are not very well used.

Two or three years ago, we had an important escalation regarding the Veeam environment. It's not very easy to have access to level three. That said, for 90-95% of the cases, it's okay. Sometimes, when we have a real problem, it's not very good, however, that's a general truth in the IT market.

We have a direct relationship with Veeam pre-sales. Most of the time, when we have a very tough escalation, we can make a request to Veeam directly in France, and they can help us in a very efficient way. We have a very strong partnership.

I've worked with a variety of solutions.

Veeam is very, very good when we have a virtualized environment. It's a major part of the virtualized environment. However, in the data center sometimes some other products like Commvault, for example, or NetBackup, have more features than Veeam. When we have very important environments with bare-metal servers, Commvault is a better solution compared to Veeam in some situations.

The difficulty of the initial setup depends. For the smaller environments, it's straightforward. It's very easy to set up an environment with one ESX cluster and one backup appliance to back up 100 VMs, for example, 100 or 200 VMs.

However, when we are in the data center, little by little, what we want is it to be present, to be an enterprise product, and when we are in the data center, when we have a lot of environments, bare-metal environments, virtualized environments, specific applications to back up, I can say that it's not so easy.

You must have the expertise to set up this kind of environment. The consulting phase and the preparation phase and the setup phase are very important. As soon as the environment is set up, changing something is not so easy. Many times we had to change the architecture after the initial setup as all the aspects were not been very well optimized for the environment of the customers.

There is not a very easy answer, as it is not only for Veeam. A backup project is a complex project due to the fact that we have some interaction with all the entities of our customers. We must have some workshops with all these entities to have the right solution to propose and to set up.

The licensing of Veeam sometimes is quite complicated, even if they have improved a lot the way that the licensing is working currently.

I'm a consultant. 

We're an integrator. I'm working for HPE. We are integrating only our products. Sometimes we integrate third-party products too, however, most of the time, we try to use our products. That said, it's impossible for my company to be the leader in all the environments. For example, for the backup,s we have some technology, some preferred partners, and Veeam and Commvault are the main partners right now for the backups.

I'd advise potential new users to analyze exactly what they want to do before implementing the solution as it's always better to know exactly what they want to do.

To set up the environment is very easy, however, you must anticipate future problems and think about scalability. You also need to think about how you are going to add more power to the environment. Everyone needs to prepare for the coming years. 

Right now, there are new demands on the market, and Veeam as a leader in backup software must anticipate these needs. Right now, we have some demands regarding the backups of objects, as, little by little, we have a lot of customers using objects as primary storage. 

In terms of anticipating such kinds of demands, Veeam is one of the leaders of the market.

I'd rate the solution at an eight out of ten. It's a great solution.

We are using Veeam Backup Replication for our virtual environments.

The solution protects our system environment which has helped the company.

The most valuable feature is the ease of use.

Veeam Backup Replication could improve by having better integration with the cloud. Additionally, they do not have direct integration to S3 or Azure storage for the backups of the VMs. This feature would be beneficial because we have to go through the scalable repository which I do not like. 

I have been using Veeam Backup Replication for approximately seven years.

Veeam Backup & Replication is stable.

I have found Veeam Backup & Replication scalable. However, you might need to expand your infrastructure. 

The technical support is good.

The installation is straightforward.

The price of Veeam Backup & Replication is reasonable compared to IBM.

If you have virtual environments or databases, Veeam Backup Replication is a good solution. I would recommend it to others.

I rate Veeam Backup & Replication a nine out of ten.

The solution can be used for backing up data such as virtual machines, data servers, and applications.

I have found one of the most valuable features to be the integrity of the backups. It does a great job at taking backups of physical servers and doing replications. The integration with their storage is done well.

I think backing up from physical servers and ransomware security needs some improvements. However, they have improved in the newer release by encrypting the backup server.

In upcoming releases, I do not want the UI to change, this is important for individuals using the solution. If there are many changes then they have to keep learning the UI over and over again making it difficult.

I have been using the solution for approximately five years.

The solution is stable.

In my experience, I have found the solution to be stable. You are able to scale out to repositories well. You can add all servers together as a bundle and use them as a scale-out repository. 

The technical support is great. They have comprehensive FAQ information that can be searched for whatever your needs are.

I have used Veritas in the past and it does a better job at backing up servers.

The installation is simple, it takes less than 15 minutes.

This solution requires a license and the organizations I was involved in were using an enterprise license.

I would recommend using this solution to others.

I rate Veeam Backup Replication a ten out of ten.

We use Veeam Backup Replication for general backup and restore functions.

I like all the backup features in Veeam.

The price can be better.

Technical support was good. The few times that you used them, they were pretty decent.

The initial setup is easy.

It's expensive and costs about 1000 a year.

On a scale from one to ten, I would give Veeam Backup Replication a nine.

We use Veeam Backup and Replication for image backups.

We use Veeam Explorer for Exchange for single item restores and to restore mailboxes, which is good. With SQL Explorer, you can access SQL, and it's got some good tools that are integrated into the product. 

The Veeam physical backups for Windows is good, but I'm not sure about other operating systems. If you have a lot of central sites and remote sites, you can easily set up the replication and make it easier.

Veeam Backup and Replication is a very good product, but there's room for improvement. For example, if you have to set up multiple servers, there's a lot of work to configure and set up projects. But once it's set up, it's very easy to manage. I think you have to resize it in the data center, and then it's pretty simple. We can integrate the storage, and you can use data resizing and do a lot more.

The reporting feature can also be improved. Version 10 has come up with a better report, but version 9.4 isn't so good. I mean, it doesn't show whether we can allow customization of reports and more.

I have used Veeam Backup and Replication for one year. 

Veeam Backup and Replication is very stable. I haven't faced any problems with it so far.

Their technical support is excellent. Whenever I have contacted Veeam support, they were very good, very helpful, and supportive. Their website is a very good support site as well.

The initial setup is straightforward, and it took us about an hour to deploy.

I'm told that Veeam Backup and Replication is a cost-effective solution, and it's very competitive in terms of pricing. It's cheaper, and it's going to be up ahead of the competitors in terms of pricing by sockets. Compared to other vendors, they're much cheaper, and Veeam is almost everywhere now.

Veeam is very good. 

On a scale from one to ten, I would give Veeam Backup and Replication an eight.

We primarily use the solution for backup and replication.

The whole replication aspect of the solution is excellent because it compresses the data so well. 

The way you get everything on one pane and see the whole environment because you're top is one of the reasons I really like Nutanix.

It would be ideal if users could know that their data is backed up and have some security functionality where you can actually use the backup to spin up a new cluster and take it from there. 

If they can create a virtual environment with the traffic environment that would be beneficial.

The solution is very stable once it's up and running.

The solution is easily scalable if you have to move to a larger site.

Nutanix technical support is excellent. You can't get better. You won't get better.

I used HP, the normal three-tier environment, and I wanted to go to upper coverage, so I switched.

The initial setup is easy.

We handled the implementation ourselves.

We're using the on-premises deployment model.

The solution has some really nice features, but there is a lot of competition in the open-source market. I'd truthfully also prefer an open-source solution as well.

I would rate the solution nine out of ten.

This product has improved the entire RTO and allows us to restore applications and services to customers within a few minutes.

• Microsoft Exchange
• Microsoft SQL
• Backup and restore of vCloud Director Objects
• Direct SAN integration with 3PAR

I like these features because they are helpful in offering additional and detailed disaster recovery services for managed services customers. The direct SAN backup feature perfectly integrates with our 3PAR storage infrastructure. It has significantly reduced the time it takes to backup virtual machines.

The direct SAN backup integration can be perfected by improving the snapshot removal mechanism and process from the storage volumes. This will prevent stale snapshots from accumulating on the data stores, which in turn consumes precious space.

There were no stability issues that I can think of. When the best practices for deploying Veeam Backup and Replication are strictly followed, the system can be stable without any issues.

We didn’t have any problems with scalability at all. It all comes down to how to deploy the Veeam infrastructure. If it is well designed, scaling is no problem.

The technical support is fairly good.

I have used other solutions in the past, but I switched because Veeam just works. It is pretty easy to set up, use, and it has fewer limitations.

The setup is straightforward, depending on how you want to deploy it. The installer can configure everything for you on the same server with all the relevant databases. It will also automatically install any required external software needed for Veeam to operate.

The licensing is based on the number of cores you have in your ESX or Hyper-V environment. That should be taken into consideration when purchasing the Veeam Backup and Replication solution.

I have used TSM, Backup Exec, and Retrospect.

I would recommend IT professionals who run their infrastructure in a predominantly virtual environment to go for the Veeam Backup and Replication solution. It does the job and it is relatively easy to set up.
