What is our primary use case?
I worked with Oracle Database on-premises as a developer for seven years at Sopra Banking. Later, I used Oracle Database Cloud Service together with Informatica for application and data integration, specifically with the Informatica IICS platform.
During a project migration, I transferred data from other systems to Oracle, as well as from on-premises Oracle to Oracle Cloud. I used data transfer jobs, APIs, and automated data integration processes for these migrations.
I mainly use relational databases, but we also work with NoSQL and non-relational data. Oracle Cloud is very strong for database management, but it’s not as comprehensive as AWS or Azure. Oracle Cloud is best suited for storing and integrating relational data, while AWS and Azure are more versatile and support more diverse workloads.
For example, with AWS S3, we can store any type of data, including files and non-relational data, which is an area where Oracle Cloud is less flexible.
What is most valuable?
The most valuable feature is security. We use SSL/TLS encryption, SSO authentication, and fine-grained access control for user roles and data permissions.
Automation of data dumps and data storage is also very useful. Oracle Database Cloud Service can handle large data volumes, and its performance at scale is excellent.
We use Oracle Data Pump and GoldenGate to manage data dumps.
Data Guard is another valuable component, providing disaster recovery and high availability.
What needs improvement?
Oracle Database Cloud Service could improve by adding a native iPaaS (integration platform as a service). While machine learning integration is available with Informatica, it’s not yet built into Oracle’s offering.
For how long have I used the solution?
I worked with Oracle Database on-premise as a developer for seven years with Sopra Banking.
Later, I used Oracle Database Cloud Service together with Informatica for application and data integration, specifically with the Informatica IICS platform.
How are customer service and support?
Oracle’s technical support is very good. The documentation is freely available, and there’s also a rich learning platform for users.
How would you rate customer service and support?
What other advice do I have?
I do not use the Global Reach feature.
Regarding metrics and performance, I don’t recall the exact performance metrics, but we use ETL processes to monitor and manage migration performance and data quality.
Oracle Database Cloud Service is strong for data management and storage, as well as for its security features and automation of data dumps and archiving.
Overall, Oracle Database Cloud Service is a solid product. It’s well-suited for financial platforms. Oracle provides both its on-premises and cloud-based suites, and the company continues to evolve, offering more components for data storage, data management, and integration with other tools and SaaS solutions.
I plan to continue using Oracle Database Cloud Service, particularly for managing SaaS tools in financial contexts.
