We use on-premise servers with Lenovo ThinkSystem. We set up Hyper-V and load multiple types of servers including a domain controller, a SQL Server, and application servers.
The solution provides fast servers that are reasonably priced. We set up RAID ten to ensure drive redundancy, leading to minimal failures. Lenovo ThinkSystem has met our expectations in terms of speed and reliability.
The servers are fast and affordable. We set up RAID ten for redundancy, which has ensured minimal failures.
There might be improvements needed in drive throughput as disk speed has been a limitation on Windows servers. Although we upgrade the RAID system, it can still be faster.
I have been using Lenovo ThinkSystem for over ten years.
I have experienced no issues with the stability of Lenovo ThinkSystem. It has been more stable than my previous HP servers.
The only issue with scalability is the amount of drive slots in server cases. If more slots are needed, additional enclosures are required.
The support from Lenovo is reliable.
Positive
I previously used HP servers, which were less stable than Lenovo ThinkSystem.
The initial server build takes a couple of hours, with additional time required for loading the OS depending on the number of servers to be deployed. A typical deployment with three servers takes about six hours.
We work with distributors like Tech Data, Ingram, or DNH. We deal with their Lenovo representative on-site or remotely to create a server build meeting our specifications.

My experience with the Lenovo ThinkSystem DM Series is very good. The pricing is okay, and it's one of the best systems. I rate the overall solution an eight out of ten.
I advise using the tool; it is the best solution. Don't be misled by some people who say this is a Chinese company; this is incorrect. It is not a Chinese company but an international and big company.
Lenovo currently offers many products for AI projects. I hope it becomes the number one distributor for AI next year.

The most valuable feature of the Lenovo ThinkSystem DM Series is its ability to store data well.
Lenovo ThinkSystem DM Series could improve by having a snapshot feature. Additionally, there can be other features added to help restore the data faster.
I have used Lenovo ThinkSystem DM Series within the last 12 months.
The stability of the Lenovo ThinkSystem DM Series is good.
Lenovo ThinkSystem DM Series is a scalable solution.
We have six people using this solution in my company.
The support could improve. They take a lot of time to respond after 6:00 PM. Additionally, we have experienced some conductivity issues from the support.
I have used NetApp and Dell Unity. Dell Unity has more features
The initial setup of the Lenovo ThinkSystem DM Series is easy, it took less than one hour.
I would not recommend Lenovo ThinkSystem DM Series to others. There are better storage systems available, such as NetApp and Dell Unity

I rate Lenovo ThinkSystem DM Series a nine out of ten.

We implement DM Series as a storage solution for healthcare clients and customers in other industries, like auto parts manufacturing. Instead of working directly with the end-customer, we are partnered with a reseller.
I would like Lenovo to add a feature like IBM Easy Tier to DM Series. This is a crucial feature for the customers.
I have been using DM Series for about six years, I think.
I get different feedback from my customers. Some tell me that the performance is good, but it's not as good as IBM.
You can scale the DM series easily. I think it's mostly a solution for mid-sized and larger companies, not small ones. It's an expensive high-end system storage system. Of course, it works just fine for a small company provided that they have enough money.
Lenovo offers good technical support.
The Lenovo DM Series is an excellent storage product, but I think it isn't competitive with other companies like Dell EMC and IBM because IBM products are very cheap and have more features.
The DM Series uses ONTAP software from NetApp, which is complex. You can't run this system if you don't have experience with ONTAP, then you can't install this system. We install the systems for the end customer.
Last year, I did a DM Series installation with my colleague, and this installation was effortless because we had Lenovo support on the phone, so it was easy to get help if we had any problems.
Lenovo offers two software tiers for the DM Series: basic and premium. If you need more features like the MetroCluster, you must buy the premium version. You can stick to the basic software if you don't need MetroCluster or features like asynchronous replication. That makes DM Series a little cheaper.
I rate Lenovo DM Series eight out of 10. My advice is to try it. If you are a NetApp or Dell EMC customer, you have to try DM Series because I think DM Series is a scalable all-in-one system with unified block and file storage and cloud tiering.
We use the solution for our customers who want to put all their records into DM storage.
Deduplication, compression, compaction, and software encryption are valuable features of the solution. The product’s quality of service guarantees the performance of each workload. It is one of the most powerful storage in the market.
A lot of customers do not need all the features in the solution. However, we can only buy the solution as a bundle with all the features.
The solution should change the licensing model and allow customers to choose features based on their requirements.
I have been using the solution for six years.
The solution is stable. I rate the stability a nine out of ten.
The product has almost no limitations. I rate the scalability a ten out of ten.

The Lenovo ThinkSystem DM Series is a unified storage system.
The Lenovo ThinkSystem DM Series was very hard to configure. Installation of the product was very hard. These are its areas for improvement.
It would be easier to configure initially if you have direct access to the panel, so if they could remove the APIs for configuration, that would be preferable.
I've been using the Lenovo ThinkSystem DM Series for two years.
The Lenovo ThinkSystem DM Series is a stable storage system.
The Lenovo ThinkSystem DM Series is a scalable product.
The initial configuration for the Lenovo ThinkSystem DM Series was very difficult. The product was very hard to install.

I have experience with all-flash storage arrays. I've used IBM NVMe Series, Dell EMC Unity, HPE, and Juniper.
We're using the Lenovo ThinkSystem DM Series, particularly the DM7000 version.
The Lenovo ThinkSystem DM Series can be deployed on cloud and on-premises.
We are a solution provider and this is one of the products that we implement for our customers.
The price of this solution is good.
Many people do not realize that Lenovo has a storage solution, so better marketing from the vendor is needed.
We have just begun working with the DM Series.
Our customers enjoy the stability that the Lenovo DM Series has.
The scalability is very good. However, if the product is a few years old then expanding storage may be expensive because of a change in the technology.
Our customers for this product are normally medium and large companies. The most recent deployment was for a company with 100 employees.
The initial setup is easy. If you have any familiarity with storage solutions, regardless of the vendor, then you can easily configure this product. The length of time required for deployment depends on the size of the project, although I would estimate the average to be one or two days. For a small amount of storage, it will only take a few hours.
I have worked with several similar products and I find that the decision by the customer is normally made based on the price.
In summary, this is a good product and is one that I recommend.
I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.
We primarily use the solution for our customers. When they have old hardware and infrastructure and need to update them, we set up the Lenovo systems for them.
Lenovo offers a good variaty of Storage Systems. Starts with DS, then DE and the most sophisticated version - DM-Series. When Workload is the question this Storagesystem will help our costumers to solve these issues. In the AllFlash variation of this System Lenovo gives the 1 3 to 1 Promise. Means you buy only the third part of calculated Storage, because the System compresses and deduplicates in a extreme good ratio.
The second part, as Lenovo partners, we always look there strategic routes so we can imagine where the way is going along - also the contact to the technicians and to the Lenovo Partnermanagement gives us the good feeling for their products and their visions - so we can translate them to our customers, who needs not only reliable systems but also a long term vision where the journey will move.
The licensing model needs to be revisited. It needs to be simplified.
When using flash, users need to calculate the correct combination of SSDs to ensure the correct amount is provided to the customer. If a customer, for example, needs 30 terabytes of disc space or flash storage, a lot of testing and calculations need to happen to see if this is possible to get to with just flash storage.
The solution needs to offer more storage tools so clients can scale while the costs can be kept low.
Lenovo DM offers a costing tool, however, it could be simplified a bit more. If it was easier to use, the costing could happen sooner and everything could get to market faster.
We advice our Customers to use the solution for one year now.
We haven't had any problems with the solution. It's quite reliable. We haven't had bugs or glitches. There haven't been crashes.
We've never had issues with scaling the solution. We have customers with 400 users or more, and customers that have 150 users. However, it's not the number of users that decide how the solution scales, it's the workload.
Currently, the initial setup is a bit complex. There's a new DM series in stock. It's a bit difficult to get the proper experience from Lenovo directly in terms of getting to their technicians.
The last time we got in touch with them, the process was getting smoother, however. They're making improvements in the process.
We install the solution for our clients.
It's difficult to calculate pricing on the solution. Lenovo does help us, as a partner, however, there are different types of storage at different price points, and also certain items that are built into the cost already.
Normally, they break down and show you how they get to the final price. Typically, a client will tell you what they need and you run some calculations based on workloads. Once you have a plan that aligns with the customer's needs, you go to Lenovo for pricing, and you need to negotiate with them to try to lessen costs.
Once you have decided on the costs, there are no extras beyond that which a customer would have to pay for. It's all one set negotiated cost.
We're a Lenovo partner.
I'd rate the solution six out of ten.
With Lenovo, there are only two solutions: the DE or DM series. For common workloads, we tend to recommend the DE series as it's the best match for smaller companies. The DM series is more for those with many workloads that need very high performance. In use cases where the Workload needs performance, we advice our Customer to take the advantage of the Lenovo Best in Breed DM-Systems.
We typically advise customers to choose the DM series.
In Germany, we have many small firms and smaller environments. Most people will tell clients they absolutely need flash. However, we don't think that is always the case. It's similar with DM. You can't sell clients with small issues or small storage requirements something that offers flash all the time. It's expensive. You need to think about costs and be strategic to ensure you're meeting your client's needs responsibly.
