Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"It's got the capabilities of amassing a lot of throughput with remote access and VPNs.""I have access to the web version of Cisco Talos to see the reputation of IP addresses. I find this very helpful. It provides important information for my company to obtain the reputation of IP addresses. The information in Talos is quite complete.""We have not had to deal with stability issues.""The most valuable features of this solution are the integrations and IPS throughput.""There are no issues that we are aware of. It does its job silently in the background.""Firepower has been used for quite a few enterprise clients. Most of our clients are Fortune 500 and Firepower is used to improve their end to end firewall functionality.""The customer service/technical support is very good with this solution.""One of the nice things about Firepower is that you can set it to discover the environment. If that is happening, then Firepower is learning about every device, software operating system, and application running inside or across your environment. Then, you can leverage the discovery intelligence to get Firepower to select the most appropriate intrusion prevention rules to use for your environment rather than picking one of the base policies that might have 50,000 IPS rules in it, which can put a lot of overhead on your firewall. If you choose the recommendations, as long as you update them regularly, you might be able to get your rule set down to only 1,000 or 1,500, which is a significant reduction in a base rule set. This means that the firewall will give you better performance because there are less rules being checked unnecessarily. That is really useful."

"The feature with SonicWall that I have found most valuable is that all the models have the same interface. We don't need to learn different interfaces in the smaller or bigger models.""Ease of management and the VPN integration.""SonicWall TZ is a stable product.""Offers the right amount of control without being incredibly convoluted and frustrating.""It lets me monitor in live time if someone is 'hogging' bandwidth.""We are able to block whatever we want to block by using this product. It provides all required security features, such as content filtering, VPN, in one box. Before switching to SonicWall, we had specified all required features.""The installation is straightforward and took approximately 30 minutes.""The most valuable features are unified threat management which provides security intelligence and the VPN for both site-to-site and remote access."

"Monitoring and reporting are areas that need improvement.""With Sophos, we have not had any incidents this year. The security provided has been good. It has proven to be okay for our needs.""It's a stable solution.""Sophos UTM is the simplest of these products to setup.""We've found the technical support to be helpful.""The three most important features for us are web protection, web server protection, and network protection.""The most valuable feature is ransomware protection.""Sophos SG UTM had all the basic functionality that you needed. It is user-friendly and easy to manage for any integrator."

Cons
"It's mainly the UI and the management parts that need improvement. The most impactful feature when you're using it is the user interface and the user experience.""Cisco makes horrible UIs, so the interface is something that should be improved.""On the VPN side, Firepower could be better. It needs more monitoring on VPNs. Right now, it's not that good. You can set up a VPN in Firepower, but you can't monitor it.""In a future release, it would be ideal if they could offer an open interface to other security products so that we could easily connect to our own open industry standard.""The visibility for VPN is one big part. The policy administration could be improved in terms of customizations and flexibility for changing it to our needs.""They need a VTI. I know it's going to be available in the next software version, which is the 6.7 version. However, the problem with that is that the 6.7 is going to deprecate all the older IKEv1 deployment tunnels. Therefore, the problem is that we have a lot of customers which are using older encryptions. If I do that, update it, it's not going to work for me.""The configuration in Firepower Management Center is very slow. Deployment takes two to three minutes. You spend a lot of time on modifications. Whereas, in FortiGate, you press a button, and it takes one second.""The performance should be improved."

More Cisco Firepower NGFW Firewall Cons →

"It could be made more user friendly.""There is a point I don't like about SonicWall in the past and now. Most of the destinations we look at when we're detecting some user using too much bandwidth or something like that, SonicWall just gave us destination IP address, instead of the full qualified domain name. I think that's the most important part that is still missing. I think that's the most important for us.""Its reporting can be improved. Currently, we cannot directly get the user names. It only shows the IP, which makes it a bit confusing because we need to use the IP to find the user. If we could directly get the name of the user, it would be better.""GUI interface could be improved.""The monitoring is a little bit confusing.""User interface could be improved.""In general, the company needs to think contingently and integrate more security options.""The reporting analytics could be improved, it is very unstable."

More SonicWall TZ Cons →

"The solution needs to do better at covering mobile devices, although they may have an integrated solution for that purpose.""Flexibility in pricing could be improved. It's more rigid in its pricing compared to its competitor: Kaspersky.""Sophos should improve its ability to check something like bandwidth consumption for users or something more real-time.""We need to speed up the support.""There needs to be some improvement in the IPsec VPN. There is implementation only support. I have version one. I'd be most interested in having IP version two from the protocol.""It would be nice if it had basic features, such as DLP (Data Loss Prevention).""We'd like to see them offer their services on mobile devices like tablets. I'm not sure if that's an option or not.""Anti-phishing functionality should be improved."
