Collaboration has improved through simplified document access and controlled sharing
SharePoint is definitely used to keep a record of our files and data. The capability is quite good because it is time-saving. I have used it only four or five times, but it has been very helpful to keep all my information in a consolidated manner. The search feature is one of the most beneficial factors that we use to filter out the latest data or the latest file as per our convenience and use case. When you have a large repository, this feature is particularly valuable. Role-based access control has been helpful while developing the knowledge platform. The roles were defined clearly, which made it easy for the four or five of us to work simultaneously and collaborate on our project in a similar manner.

Easy to store information and maintan workflow but we use QlikView for reporting because built in reporting is poor.
Workflow Reorganized the workflow for purchase invoice. My customer uses version 6, I haven't seen the new one. If it hasn't yet been upgraded in the new version, I feel that the interface can be improved to be more windows like. Since 2008 We didn't have any deployment issues. While version 5…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"From my perspective as a developer I would say that the most valuable features are the wide variety of data source connections, completeness of features, and strong query possibilities (customisation, SQL, MDX, macros)."
"SharePoint is a big product with many features including customization flexibilities."
"SharePoint has streamlined our documentation management process by allowing us to automate several functions."
"We used to employ Oracle UCM, but we replaced it because of the features provided in SharePoint along with the customizations, flexibility and ease of creating websites, workflows, pages and applications."
"The most valuable feature of SharePoint is its user interface, which is very easy to use."
"The complete granularity of being able to apply permissions at collection, site, library, list, folder, and doc set levels give ultimate flexibility."
"This solution has helped us with the categorization, organization, management, discovery, and delivery of program and project related information."
"The most valuable aspect of SharePoint is its integration with Teams. T"
"We didn't experience any issues with the initial setup, it was easy."

Cons

"In Brazil and India, I thought technical support was really poor."
"The product could be more intuitive both from an administrative point of view and from an end user point of view."
"There's a challenge with desktop applications synchronizing with online documents in real-time. If someone is working on a document in the desktop version of Excel, for example, and someone else is editing the same document online, the changes won't sync immediately. That's the only real challenge we've encountered."
"Needs improvement on the user interface."
"Synchronization of files in OneDrive can take some time which can ‘annoy’ some users."
"As usual, Microsoft’s licensing structures don’t really seem to fit the needs of their products."
"Better wiki offerings."
"The web parts in SharePoint could be more intuitive for end users."
"Customer Service: 5/10. The supplier is slow to answer but now it's better with a self employed consultant."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Any extended support from Microsoft is expensive."
"It is very expensive."
"They are about an eight in comparison to other similar products."
"As usual, Microsoft’s licensing structures don’t really seem to fit the needs of their products. This leads to always paying for a project you will never use fully or always be adding to."
"The platform has medium pricing."
"Licensing can be by server or by seat."
"The cost is expensive, but worthwhile."
"The licensing model for SharePoint Online is based on per user, and it is monthly. The price of the solution overall is good."

Jive vs Sharepoint vs Drupal Commons
At Mediacurrent we often get requests to compare Drupal to other platforms used for intranet sites and social business platforms (like https://dev.twitter.com/ for example). This is often referred to as “Social Business Software”, which has grown in popularity in recent years. I decided to do a…
