One of my clients has a requirement; they want to integrate metadata into the process, which means, for example, if I just want to implement a new field into my database, that field needs to be reflected throughout, let's say, 200 mappings. This highlights the need for a data-driven approach. My experience with technical support from Informatica is quite interesting; I would rate it as nine out of ten for Informatica PowerCenter kind of products or the Informatica integration products, because my team can do some hands-on using their free licenses or one-month kind of products. However, for products Master Data Management or related to MDM or Data Governance, there is no way by which we can directly practice, and my team struggles at that point.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"This application has allowed my teams of developers to transfer data quickly and easily from SQL databases into Oracle databases."
"Customer service is really good."
"Best profiling tool available, scalability, automatic linking between data and business glossary, parallel framework, accurate probabilistic matching, scientific justification of matching"
"These days I would choose it by default as compared to any other product."
"The product is scalable and excellent for enterprise-level organizations."
"It comes with lot of features and is a one-stop-shop solution for integration, data modeling, and data governance. Everything can be built under one particular umbrella. If any issues come up, then there won't be any blame game saying that it could be an integration issue or an MDM hub issue because it's wholly owned by Informatica. That's the biggest advantage of Informatica MDM over that of any other tools that are available on the market."
"Initial setup was fairly easy."
"For the kind of application we have built and run on this tool, it has been very stable and has given consistent performance."
"The most valuable feature is data discovery. This is the most exciting feature for all of the banks."
"The best thing about Informatica Axon is that it integrates with the Electronic Data Capture and the Axon system."
"I do a quite a lot of data transformations, and the fact that I can do them without changing any of my SQL queries from the code, using the inbuilt tools, is very helpful."
"The most valuable feature of Informatica Axon has been the data marketplace."

Cons

"It’s good for experienced users and not for novices."
"It's difficult to get the overall knowledge if you are coming from java or similar engages."
"There is a longer deployment time, it is a complex cost model, and has a longer learning curve as it is meant for complex cleansing."
"The documentation is not very straightforward and a little difficult to navigate."
"Perhaps the web services need to improve because when you create a new data file and add some changes, we must edit it and create a web service transformation again."
"In certain domains, I am looking for material-level match features that are not customizable. The current solution requires code-writing and tweaking, while other solutions offer material-level matches."
"The product could be improved in the area of architecture and technology. All the parts are old."
"The cloud version of Axon is far behind the on-prem, and many of my clients want to go fully to the cloud. However, Axon has to be an on-prem installation. I would like to see their cloud products catch up with their on-prem capabilities."
"The tool should provide a unified user interface to manage the data objects."
"Its look and feel needs improvement. It has a lousy look and feel."
"This is a costly solution."
"Pre-sales technical support is much better than post-sales technical support."

"We saw an ROI. We have been able to get data from various sources and consolidate it into a data lake, which is helping us in data analytics."
"Informatica Axon is a costly solution. I rate Informatica Axon a four out of ten for its pricing."
"A yearly subscription is paid based on the number of people using the solution. Price-wise, it falls under the medium range since it is neither very costly nor too cheap."
"The solution is very expensive."
"The pricing structure is good, but having to pay for extra drivers to be used in an ICS environment makes me a little nervous."
"it's expensive, but if you're looking for a stable solution, Informatica MDM is a good one to choose."
"The price is comparable."
