Identifies additional capacity and automates onboarding
I think HPE GreenLake for Disaster Recovery is doing a good job overall, but there's room for improvement. It should pay more attention to different business models. As a law firm, our requirements differ greatly from those of insurance companies or banks. Our timelines and capacity recovery needs are unique. The solution should create specific verticals focused on contracts that suit our environment. The concept is great, but the execution could be better for the legal vertical. For example, when we need capacity, it usually takes too long to get it. This might be okay for banks or insurance companies, but it's too slow for a law firm. The tool needs to understand how different industries work and what drives our specific requirements.

Has enabled seamless VM management and automated failover while support response needs improvement
For support issues, they help with the issue, but it takes a very long time. The reason is that they engage a very initial resource and then escalate to another level, and during these level escalations, our time is wasted. They do not understand the severity of the issue. They go through step-by-step and then go to the upper level. This may be their SOP, but we require instant support and instant resolution of the problem, so here VMware Live Recovery is lacking. They follow their SOP, but they initially engage very low-level personnel who are not able to answer or resolve the issue, so they escalate or take a very long time to resolve the issue. The main issue is to improve the approach of resolving solutions. I may not be able to suggest new features because in these recent months, I have not been very close to it as we are exploring different solutions.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The most valuable feature of HPE GreenLake for Disaster Recovery for us is its ability to identify when we need additional capacity and automate onboarding. Our law firm's data needs can be unpredictable, so the tool's management of long-term data capacity strategies is crucial. They monitor when we reach around 80 percent capacity and ensure that additional capacity is provided within the required time frame, which is important for us."
"I now have one portal where I can manage my servers, my storage, my networking, and also my data protection and disaster recovery. It is now all integrated into one portal."
"The most valuable features are simplicity and that recovery can take a few seconds."
"The most valuable feature is the simplicity of operations."
"My impression is that the initial setup process is relatively straightforward."
"We had not achieved our RTO before the SRM implementation, but now we have achieved our RTO for DR drill."
"The primary valuable feature is the ability to have automated DR; they have vMotion, which ensures that any changes on the main production site reflect on the application layer on the DR site, which is a very important tool."
"The simplicity of VMware SRM is one of its most important features. SRM console is straightforward to manage. It offers simplicity in monitoring, managing, and deploying, making it a unique value proposition. Additionally, Nutanix solutions also provide a simple GUI, which helps in operational efficiency."
"What I like the most about SRM is the delta sync."
"The UI is very user-friendly and testing is easy."
"The solution offers a rich set of features, well adapted in the market."

Cons

"I would like to have the ability to deploy the appliances and protect some VMs on the cloud."
"In HPE GreenLake for Disaster Recovery, until now, if I remember well, there is only VMware to VMware. Recently, they added Azure, but it does not have the full flexibility yet for it to go from anywhere to anywhere. There is room for improvement."
"I think HPE GreenLake for Disaster Recovery is doing a good job overall, but there's room for improvement. It should pay more attention to different business models. As a law firm, our requirements differ greatly from those of insurance companies or banks. Our timelines and capacity recovery needs are unique."
"Technical support can take some time to respond. We'd like a faster response."
"Not really for use and operation, but a version upgrade is a real problem."
"When starting up the replication and converting it to the virtual machine I had some problems. I had to start the process again and that is inconvenient."
"The configuration process could be improved."
"An improvement for SRM would be better interface compatibility with other products."
"VMware SRM needs to improve its pricing."
"The back sites sometimes are very, very complicated."
"Zerto may be more cost efficient, so I’m not 100% sold, and may not need it at all."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Pricing is straightforward. The thresholds are well documented, so you know exactly where your tiers are. The price is very clear if you decide to go for a certain capacity. The pricing is also clear if you want to move to the next threshold. So that aspect is very straightforward and not an issue."
"It is not cheap, but it is much more cost-efficient compared to Zerto because the entry point of the number of VMs to be protected is lower compared to Zerto. It is more interesting to get started with GreenLake for Disaster Recovery because of the lower entry price point."
"Licensing costs explode after 75 VMs."
"I rate the tool's pricing an eight to nine out of ten."
"The software is expensive. There is a one-time cost involved in purchasing the license."
"The licensing costs are increasing."
"The licensing costs for the product are perpetual in nature. A person needs to buy the license only once there is a need to buy support on a yearly basis. The licensing cost for VMware SRM is expensive."
"VMware SRM is a little bit pricey."
"The pricing is good."
"VMware SRM is quite expensive."
