Google Hangouts sometimes consumes significant resources. When comparing it to WhatsApp on desktop for calls, there are instances when Google Hangouts freezes or stops working, but switching to WhatsApp runs smoothly. This might be related to the resources Google Hangouts requires. The service occasionally experiences lag issues where the image gets frozen or the voice transmission becomes interrupted. When these issues occur, possibly due to internet connectivity or other factors, WhatsApp continues to function properly while Google Hangouts does not perform well.

It features low latency, which is crucial because everybody is using VPN to connect to their PCs at work.
Using GoToMeeting in a meeting-sized conference room is kind of a letdown. The camera is supposed to track the speaker and focus on that person so that they can be on the screen. That feature rarely worked. We tested it thoroughly, so maybe it was an issue with the size of the conference room. It may not be suitable for large conference rooms.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"I find that Google Hangouts is very quick and easy to create a meeting, which is its biggest benefit."
"The solution is useful for virtual meetings; I like that we can do voice or video calls, there are screen-sharing capabilities, it is straightforward to set up, very easy to use, stable, scalable, and the pricing is good."
"The solution is easy to use and navigate."
"The initial setup process is straightforward."
"It has efficient recording features."
"The most valuable feature of Google Hangouts is the ability to record the classes that I'm not able to attend, and I can use the class recording to view whatever I missed later."
"Stable communication tool with a good history feature and very easy installation."
"Basically, if you are using G-Suite then you should be using Google Hangouts because it works."
"GoToMeeting is very handy. It's good software. I would definitely recommend it."
"GoToMeeting is a nice program and they have a lot of features."
"GoToMeeting is an awesome product and it worked perfectly fine for us whether we used it through a browser or as a client."
"I have no issues with the performance and no issues with the way it works."
"With GoToMeeting, I like that it works well for seminars and similar events. Finding a platform where multiple people can share their images, split the screen with content, and manage presentations smoothly is uncommon. It allows the presenter to handle questions, answers, and other opinions."
"We can record meetings and share the screen with participants."
"It works, it's reliable."
"It's easy to set up."

Cons

"Collaboration in Google Hangouts has room for improvement compared to Microsoft Teams. On Microsoft Teams, you can share a document directly and work on that document all at once, in real-time, with other team members, which isn't the case with Google Hangouts."
"It would be better to have a feature for recording the meetings in Google Hangouts."
"Can be improved by including a larger library of video filters and adding custom filters."
"I would like to see support for showing virtual backgrounds."
"The user interface is an area with shortcomings and needs improvement."
"Google will not have two identical chat platforms. Google Chat is always a winner because it is compatible with my device."
"You only get 60 minutes of video conferencing."
"We purchased a videoconference system called Zoom. We want to see if Google Hangouts has the ability to integrate our Zoom device to use it with Hangouts and meet directly."
"There may be more features available in, for example, Cisco WebEx."
"We have had issues with stability."
"I would like to see better support for mobile devices."
"It is not so stable."
"The product itself doesn't stand out against other options on the market."
"The sound quality is good but the video quality needs improvement."
"GoToMeeting is too slow, which is why we no longer use it."
"Lacks ease of connectivity, calendar integrations, and third-party app integrations."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"We pay an annual license to use the solution."
"There is an annual subscription to use this solution."
"I don't need to buy Google Hangouts separately because it comes free with Google Workspace, and it is also available for my personal Gmail ID."
"Google Hangouts has reasonable pricing, but I don't use the paid version because I only have a small budget, though you get more features from the paid version."
"We are using the free version of Google Hangouts."
"I think there is a need for payment for licensing, but as students, we didn't have to pay for it when we were using it. Our professors were the ones paying for it since they needed to record the sessions."
"There is no license cost."
"There is a need to make certain payments towards the licensing costs attached to the product and some other tools that are included in the suite offered by Google. Google Hangouts alone as a product is available for free."
"GoToMeeting is a little bit expensive compared to other products."
"Negotiate for discounts."
"It is a little expensive although now, with the competition from Zoom and other products, they have lowered their prices and it is better."
