FusionAuth offers several valuable features that stand out to me: control, development flexibility, deployment flexibility, and extensibility. Unlike competitors, it allows me to host it anywhere. I can deploy locally via Docker or on Kubernetes, so I am using a hybrid approach. Another valuable feature is that there is no cap on scaling. Many CIAM providers use a pricing model that starts cheap and then spikes drastically based on monthly active users, but FusionAuth's pricing does not penalize growth—you pay on feature, not per user. The deployment flexibility has helped my team from an engineering perspective and directly solves some of our biggest infrastructure challenges. If an enterprise client requires all their auth data to remain within a specific AWS region, we can support that without changing our application code. FusionAuth has positively impacted my organization by providing significant engineering cost savings. Building and maintaining a secure, compliant authentication system is difficult and requires a dedicated engineering team. This solution helps us with both time savings and cost savings since we are a fast-paced startup. Additionally, it has led to improvement in developer velocity, as when authentication is decoupled, our development teams can ship features significantly faster while meeting strict enterprise compliance. Regarding specific outcomes or metrics, I can say our developer velocity has nearly doubled, as our engineering focuses more on developing features rather than dedicating resources to authentication systems. In terms of financial impact, there has been a 150% improvement.

Although I am a fan of Okta Platform overall, there are areas where it could improve security outcomes and reduce admin friction. My top improvement areas include the system log and analytics upgrade, which are great for point troubleshooting, but trending and root cause analysis across large tenants still require exporting to SIEM. Verbose queries and long-range retention costs can add up. Additionally, while certificate rotations are better than most, the process is still manual for busy portfolios, especially concerning multi-SP SAML certificate rotations and app metadata drift. Two more buckets of potential improvements for Okta Platform involve user experience and security. There is the issue of push fatigue and prompt sprawl, where users receive multiple prompts across different apps and sessions. I arrived at the rating of eight because the core controls are strong and reliable, but a few operational UX and UI gaps prevent it from being rated higher. The reasons for not giving it a nine or ten include ongoing issues concerning safety and change safety, the complexity of group rules and mappings, and the lack of robustness in policy management. Additionally, there remains a need for more manual involvement than necessary, especially for large portfolios and dual certificate rotation, along with proactive SP data metadata validation.

Pros

"Regarding specific outcomes or metrics, I can say our developer velocity has nearly doubled, as our engineering focuses more on developing features rather than dedicating resources to authentication systems."
"The support for YubiKey is really good because you don't actually have to type in your username and password."
"There is no password hash saved on the cloud, which is the part that I like the most."
"If your use case is multi-cloud data centers and hybrid cloud architecture, Okta is a solution to go to."
"Okta is a very compliant solution, and it is easy to deploy."
"The main benefits Okta Customer Identity provides to users include single point of login for all applications and single authentication, which saves time and reduces frustration."
"We find the solution to be stable."
"The tool provides a single place of contact for managing users. We only need to manage users in Okta Workforce Identity, eliminating the need to duplicate efforts across different systems. For example, if a user needs to be decommissioned, we don't have to go through all the systems and cloud services; we delete the user in one place. This process is automated with our HR system for both organizations, simplifying user lifecycle management."
"Okta Platform has impacted my organization positively by providing much better security, as it implements the best patterns for security."

Cons

"FusionAuth could improve its UI customization for the admin console and enhance the documentation to make it more user-friendly."
"Maybe the interface could use some work but, for the most part, the tool is pretty cool."
"The initial setup, for new users, is a bit difficult."
"Okta Platform does not recognize when I have already verified myself once on my HubSpot login across multiple tabs."
"Whenever I write Cypress test cases, we encounter problems with logging in through Okta."
"The initial setup could be easier to do."
"We've not had any problems with Okta."
"A room for improvement in Okta Workforce Identity is its price. It could be cheaper."
"There is room for Okta Customer Identity to improve by increasing the reliability for the server end, creating more directories, and focusing on internal users rather than external or contract-based ones."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"Pricing might be high, but it comes down when the number of people using the product goes up."
"The solution’s pricing needs to be reasonable. You are dealing with a lot of components and the pricing is component-based."
"It is costly for large companies."
"The price of Okta Workforce Identity is reasonable."
"Though I don't know about the licensing model of the product, I wouldn't be surprised if Okta offers a per user license subscription model."
"The pricing for Okta Workforce Identity could still be improved or made cheaper. It costs from 50 to 100 euros a year per user. Okta Workforce Identity has different packages you can choose from, and my previous company had all of them, particularly the full Okta suite."
"Price-wise, Okta Workforce Identity is a cheap solution. The overall cost depends on the license since you can negotiate with Okta or any of Okta's partners only if you opt for many licenses."
"This is an expensive solution but the security makes it worthwhile."
