A stable, scalable, and problem-free solution
Software needs to be updated regularly in order to maintain security and performance. However, in some cases, it is necessary to stack switches in order to meet the needs of the network. Although Cisco switches are able to stack, other switches are not as simple to stack. I would like the ability to stack with different switch brands.

Experience years of robust features and strong technical support
It is a nice and robust tool where we use HPE Ethernet Switches. It is a lower switch, and we have received good warranty support with HPE switches. The security features of the HPE Ethernet Switches are good. The UI mode is available, and we can easily configure the access list and SNMP. All these configurations can be done here. Users can enable the Layer 3 features.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The fabric of the solution and the management aspect are the solution's most valuable features."
"Its simplicity and web interface were most valuable. I also liked the two-factor authentication."
"The most valuable feature of Extreme VDX is that we have had no problems and the solution's performance is excellent."
"The graphical userface is very good and quite easy to run with."
"The most valuable features of this solution are the interface and configuration. It's very easy to use."
"It's stable. We never have any issues."
"The most valuable product is the unmanaged HP switch."
"I like that HPE's management functions are GUI-based, so it doesn't rely on command lines."
"I have found the most valuable feature is stability."
"The solution performs well for its price."
"The most valuable feature is the IRF."

Cons

"The only problem is that at the moment it's an Extreme product and Extreme is not really pushing it. They have to make up for weak innovation and I'm not sure if they want to do that."
"I would like the ability to stack with different switch brands."
"Its scalability can be better. If possible, it can have Hyper POE. I am not sure if there is a fiber version."
"In the next release, I would like to see them include more features like the Aruba solution, to have more possibilities concerning the software design."
"HPE Ethernet Switches have room for improvement in the initial setup and integration process, especially when incorporating them into an existing infrastructure with competitor products."
"We have had some rare occasions with glitches, so the stability can be improved."
"We would always be happier if the price were reduced."
"It is not very stable."
"The security of the solution always has room for improvement."
"The quality of the service needs improvement."
". There is room for improvement in pricing. One box shouldn't require additional installations. We need a package deal with licenses that are usable for different tasks. Right now, we need a license for every additional feature, which adds up."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It was around $1500 a year. It is cheaper than Cisco but more expensive than Ruckus."
"The licensing cost is yearly, and there aren't any additional costs on top of the standard fee."
"The licensing cost is set up annually or every three years."
"We just bought new switches for $500 last year, and now, the same switch is $800. It's gone up in price in the last 12 months."
"We need to pay when we buy the switch. We pay for a license to use the software, but it is not required."
"The price could be more competitive."
"We have to pay for a yearly license for HPE Ethernet Switches."
"We have to see only the security part when considering licenses because the licenses upgrade."
"The box itself is cheap, but when we have to install new features, it becomes very expensive."
