Provides ease of management and has an easy initial setup process
Primarily, we use the product for network and VLAN segmentation across our hospitality property. It forms the backbone of our network, providing connectivity to devices like TVs, phones, access points, and even electrical switches within guest rooms The product's most valuable feature is the ease…

Centrally managed solution makes it easy to build one configuration and apply it to new devices
We have one or two UniFi switches, but they don't really compete with the Ciscos. It's a nice environment as far as keeping track of things and being able to manage ports, turn off rogue users, and stuff like that. The access points have been pretty convenient compared to Meraki, Lucent, Cisco, or any of the other bigger vendors that I used to deal with for other consulting projects. Ubiquiti is one step above the consumer level. They cost a little bit more, but they just seem to be drop-dead reliable, and they're keeping up with the latest standards. Their latest versions of access points are all Wi-Fi 6, and they don't take very much power when there aren't a lot of users. It's really easy to build one configuration and just apply it to new devices. It's a check mark box: Do I want this to be the staff VLAN, or the public VLAN, or the Voice over IP VLAN, or the security VLAN, or the house wiring VLAN, or the building logistics VLAN? You just check things off and then you make groups, so if you click on it, it applies all the appropriate things automatically. It makes it very easy. This solution is good for the prosumer, small office, medium office, under 500 people range, but probably over 50 people and maybe distributed around five or 10 sites. That's a pretty good sweet spot as far as the price for the equipment and the configurability, and it's just drop-dead reliable. It's been boring, which is what I love because I don't get any calls in the middle of the night that something isn't working.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The switches are very important in our hospitals, which is a critical environment for our patients. They provide time-effective management and meet our needs."
"The solution performs well for its price."
"Stable and scalable."
"We also get a couple of reports about the user or connected devices for prioritization."
"We were able to onboard HPE Ethernet Switches easily to the cloud. It was fast and took only five minutes to complete."
"The best feature of this solution is the lifetime warranty."
"The most valuable feature of the solution is its stability."
"HPE Ethernet Switches are easy to configure."
"The central management is provided by the UniFi management system. You can manage everything from a single interface. The SDN mode that the entire unified system uses is a software-defined network format."
"Because it's a managed switch, I have the ability to set controls and configure traffic priorities, VLAN ports, etc."
"The switches' PoE capabilities have made device deployment very easy."
"The most valuable feature of UniFi Switches is the simple management via the UniFi console."
"I haven't found the cost of the solution to be too high."
"I can see which ports are connected and which ones are disconnected."
"The price of Ubiquiti is worth it because the integration of the switches is seamless. It's like they just talk to each other."
"The solution is very reliable and stable."

Cons

"HPE Ethernet Switches have room for improvement in the initial setup and integration process, especially when incorporating them into an existing infrastructure with competitor products."
"When we have a lot of clients on the system, we lose signal and have to restart our antenna."
"A lower price would be an improvement because we always want to reduce our costs."
"Sometimes, we encounter the need for new technologies, especially when we require higher bandwidth. If we can't find what we need with HPE Ethernet Switches, we explore options from other vendors like Cisco."
"Some users might look for high-speed switching like Cisco or Nexus switches, which can handle larger volumes. HPE's current offerings aren't as robust in that area, but they could improve."
"The solution lacks certain protocols and has a limited warranty."
"VLAN can be improved, but I have to check that with the company expert. I have different switch models, but they don't have all the same interface. I don't know whether lower-level switches don't have the same interface as the better quality ones. I might have two different model types."
"Installation could be made more secure."
"I had some initial problems with the configuration that necessitated contacting technical support."
"New products don't integrate well with their management platform. Sometimes you have to go directly to the box or the switch to do the management."
"The support is pretty much email-based and that's horrible for an enterprise product. I can't call anybody right away."
"Ubiquiti UniFi Switches’s pricing could be less expensive."
"The product needs to improve its pricing."
"In the next release, it would be beneficial to include a face recognition feature for door access control to enhance security and user convenience."
"It's difficult to manage the WiFi on the edge switches in the same console."
"The pricing and scalability could be improved."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"All the solutions have a license for the QSFP. Additionally, there is a one-time license fee to increase the interface speed."
"It is a more expensive solution."
"We have to see only the security part when considering licenses because the licenses upgrade."
"This is not an expensive solution."
"We just bought new switches for $500 last year, and now, the same switch is $800. It's gone up in price in the last 12 months."
"The pricing is very good."
"The price could be more competitive."
"We need to pay when we buy the switch. We pay for a license to use the software, but it is not required."
"Ubiquiti UniFi Switches are more expensive than other competitors."
"Ubiquiti switches are quite affordable and you don't have to pay extra for support."
"The price of the solution is fair compared to others. However, it is expensive."
"I rate the tool's pricing a five out of ten."
"The price should be improved."
"Apart from the basic licensing costs, there are no additional charges attached to the product."
"I feel that the price of this solution is definitely reasonable compared to all of the others."
"UniFi Switches are cost-effective compared to Cisco."
