Presents all information in one place and automates some of our manual processes
This product is used by more than 50 colleges in our state and it is purchased by the government. The system office does the testing and pushes out the patches to us, so everything has been testing. Even if there is any customization that needs to be done, it happens before it comes to us. As such, I haven't had to contact technical support myself.

Requires extensive customization and fails to meet manufacturing needs
My overall experience with Epicor ERP is extremely bad. I just finished a call with the team, and the experience is really unsatisfactory. I will not recommend it to anyone. There's extensive customization required for Epicor ERP, and the standard process is not suitable. Though it is meant for manufacturing, it is not performing the manufacturing job effectively. Regarding the installation process, the implementation is not the problem as the installation is fine. The issue lies with configuration. Although it's supposed to be configurable, it requires customization for everything we need to do. When comparing to JD Edwards and in-house applications, a process that takes one minute in those systems takes ten minutes in Epicor ERP because users have to navigate through different screens constantly. If a user forgets to switch to one screen, the process remains incomplete, making end-user training extremely difficult. There's no automation and workflow feature that can be used without customization. Everything requires changes, making it similar to developing a new platform from scratch. Initially, we anticipated some benefits from using Epicor ERP, but based on the current outcome, it has been completely unsuccessful. The main issue is that everything requires customization rather than configuration. Unless they change their whole approach from customization to configuration, this product should not be used anywhere.

The amazing, robust framework with unlimited scalability earns its #1 status
The solution is not ready for the current e-commerce environment. Its was built for large enterprises who need to predictably optimize their human, material, and financial resources. ERP has evolved and businesses are changing. There are not many large corporations. Most are small enterprises with the capabilities of large enterprises through networking and platform integration. Some companies promote products but get things done with other enterprises as a network. Companies do not want to create new capacity but want to leverage existing capacity with innovative products. They do not want to spend resources on duplicating capacity or facilities. I do not think any ERP product is ready to support this environment so ERPs as a whole might end up being used for back-office functions only. It is not easy to evolve an ERP product because its intent is to integrate functions and processes within an organization. Whereas, in the new business model, processes are not limited to one's own enterprise but cut across different enterprises. There is no enterprise solution as this point in time for the current e-commerce environment so companies must integrate with many solutions.

Pros

"I like that all of the student information is in one place."
"The ability to deploy a generic implementation without advanced customization."
"Epicor ERP is very technical friendly, if you want to do any customization, it's very easy."
"I find the job management features of Epicor ERP most useful, especially for material planning. The ERP gives a perfect overview of many aspects. The scheduling is also helpful. It lets us see what we're planning and try different scenarios. For real-time analytics, I use it mostly for planning and "what if" scenarios."
"There's good flexibility within the inbuilt tools such as alerts, business process management, dashboards, and screen customization."
"Epicor ERP is an easy-to-use solution."
"Epicor ERP has harmonized our processes and provides significant visibility in reporting."

"Real-time results make for faster decision making."
"The most valuable features of SAP ERP are that its robust, user-friendly, and secure."
"Its customer support is highly rated, and the technical support provided by SAP is considered very good."
"It is easier to migrate to SAP ERP from a legacy system. We have different products for data services, and it is easier to migrate to SAP ERP as compared to other solutions. Stability is one of the main features of SAP. What makes SAP ERP better than others is that SAP has taken into consideration the business processes of different industries, such as manufacturing. They have done the research, and they know what are the best practices. They have already implemented these best practices in SAP ERP, which are readily available for a client. Clients can also customize it based on their individual needs."
"The most valuable features are the ease of installation and the MM functionality."
"If you are well versed in SAP, the initial setup is pretty simple."
"It meets our requirements for what we need it to do in the manufacturing industry."
"The accounting module's record and report process is closely integrated with almost every other process."
"I have found all the modules related to finance valuable, such as account management and HR. The entire suite is very useful."

Cons

"The functionality for monitoring satisfactory academic progress has room for improvement."
"The main challenge with implementing Epicor ERP is finding the right partners, especially in Europe."
"The support rates at 50% because most of the time the support team needs to relearn the processes, especially when a new person is assigned."
"A number of bugs in 9.05 were only fixed in 10."
"Right now, it doesn't really have a good cloud story."
"In the newer version of Epicor ERP, it's very difficult to find out that tracing."
"Epicor didn't care about user level and software applications. So, it's not so user-friendly for nontechnical people."
"The tool should provide a better user interface."
"There are some glitches in Epicor ERP."
"I think we have not seen any tangible benefits from SAP ERP."
"It needs a more complete guidance with complete processes. Right now, it only has single transactions."
"SAP is not making a big effort to make it easy to integrate solutions from other vendors. It's not easy at all... Integration is what they can do better."
"The flexibility in using the software could improve. I am from a product background and I've been testing a lot of applications, for example, Informatics. The UI, features, and cloud version could improve."
"The product is less intuitive and cumbersome for certain tasks."
"SAP ERP could improve by having better integration with other platforms."
"The problem with SAP is that whenever there is a modification, or if a new field needs to be added, they charge tens of thousands, hundreds, or even two hundred thousand dollars. That is not anything in which I am really interested. For instance, consider a single-use case. I have to enter the root causes for a certain operation or failure. That option does not exist anywhere in SAP, not in manufacturing, not in logistics, not in anything. It is completely missing. The root cause analysis is very common across industries, yet SAP does not offer this option. A line field or a metaparticle, for example, was delayed. If you have the choice to input the warehouse operator or if the person who submitted the document has the opportunity to enter, this has been postponed for N, X, Y, or Z reasons."
"The UI could use improvement."

"The initial cost may be a bit high, but the maintenance cost is lower."

"I rate the product's price a seven on a scale of one to ten, where one is cheap, and ten is expensive. SAP ERP is a costly tool."

"SAP ERP is an expensive tool."
"The licensing costs are slightly on the higher side. They need to make it more competitive."
