Recovery from cyber attacks has become faster and more reliable with strong data isolation and encryption
My impression of the administrative interface of Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery is that it is very user-friendly and pretty intuitive. Regarding the solution's ability to automate data recovery tasks, we have not had to do mass recoveries yet, but we know we can do it with the tool and we do restores out of Networker. Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery is absolutely able to protect our company's critical data. We know how it protects our critical data because we are watching it all the time; it is locking snapshots, protecting and isolating our backups, and we know our backups are there if we need to recover. We are using the recent feature addition for enhancing data encryption. As far as I know, the feature has been good because it encrypts the data. My advice for someone or some company that is considering the solution is to understand the manpower involved because it does require a lot of attention; it does not run by itself. Once it is set up, it does run, but it requires quite a bit of admin. I would rate this product an eight out of ten overall.

Backup operations have become reliable and reporting now simplifies hybrid cloud protection
Veeam Data Platform has Veeam Enterprise Manager as well as Veeam ONE as valuable features, which allow us to generate various kinds of reports that are required for the customer. Instant VM Recovery is a good feature of the high-speed recovery features in Veeam Data Platform, and Continuous Data Protection (CDP) is also a good feature. Ransomware protection is a good feature added in Veeam Data Platform from version 12 onwards, and the ability to create immutable repositories is also a good feature in Veeam. The analytics part of Veeam Data Platform is a good solution because I have worked on various backup technologies such as EMC NetWorker and NetBackup. However, I have not used the analytical parts currently but will check it out. Streamlining processes as well as saving money are benefits that Veeam Data Platform provides for the end user, as it allows for application-aware backups and database backups without the need for various kinds of licenses that other backup software requires. Veeam offers socket-based licenses, instance-based licenses, and capacity-based licenses, which is a great feature.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The biggest return on investment for me when using Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery is that if we had an attack, we would be able to recover in hours instead of weeks or months, which is a lot of risk reduction."
"This product gave us the ability to have a single notification point about global infrastructure."
"Veeam ONE effectively centralizes the view of different tools."
"It's not complex to replicate and back up the system."
"I am not a direct user of this product, but my technical guys tell me that they like the product, and it is easy to use. We don't have any issues with it."
"The encryption password is used to protect the backup files. Even if someone gains access to the backup job or files, they won't be able to utilize them without the password."
"Veeam communicates with the vCenter in VMware, which means it's very smooth and doesn't interrupt production on VMware and you can backup or restore anytime, anywhere."
"It is cost-effective. A lot of times, people pick Veeam because of its price."
"The solution does a good job with VM backups."

Cons

"I would like more visibility into what is going on with the individual backup images and how they are being scanned, so there are some automation and visibility features that could be enhanced."
"Sometimes, it's a little difficult for me to use its user interface. Its scope is very big with a lot of tuning, settings, and so on. If it's difficult for me, it must also be difficult for our customers."
"Integration with other equipment could be improved."
"Pricing-wise, it’s expensive. However, the product is great and does what it says."
"It would be ideal if users could know that their data is backed up and have some security functionality where you can actually use the backup to spin up a new cluster and take it from there."
"In future releases, I would like to see more automation capabilities. It could integrate with automation services to automatically resolve identified issues rather than simply providing instructions to the user."
"It's not that easy to use from the management side."
"The ability to back up physical servers from within the same Product and not as a separate module."
"Near-synchronous, better RPO and RTO snapshot-based takes a lot of space and resources."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"It is highly cost-effective when compared to other solutions."
"If you have Exchange, Oracle, SQL, or a supported SAN, then I suggest getting at least an Enterprise edition. It’ll pay for itself in no time."
"The licensing is the worst part of Veeam Backup Replication because for the more complex situations and it's quite difficult and complex. In particular, when mixing different requirements the licensing model is complex. For example, mixing a virtual machine backup and a file server backup in the same installation can be somewhat difficult and is expensive."
"The price of this product is very good."
"For what it does, the price is acceptable."
"Veeam Data Platform, it's pay-as-you-go. So, the more options you choose, the more consumption you have in monthly billing."
"I rate the pricing a five, depending on the application and environment."
"Veeam ONE is cheaper when you compare it with one of its competitors in the ops space, VMware vRealize Operations. There's a separate department that deals with the licensing, but my company is using CSP licensing, which is the service provider licensing, so my company doesn't fall under the normal volume at the Veeam Universal licensing program. The cost is commit-based and depends on what your point commit is. The point commit works differently, and it's similar to your sales provider license. If you commit to using one thousand five hundred points, you get a certain price. If you commit to using the eight hundred points scheme, you get a certain price. As you grow the point scheme, you get a different price range, so it doesn't matter whether you're using Veeam One, Veeam Availability Suite, Veeam Backup and Replication, Orchestrate, or whatever the product is."
