Has enabled uninterrupted access to educational platforms and simplified storage management
Dell EqualLogic PS series is easily scalable, and we can add extra boxes and storage. It was easy to deploy during COVID. Deploying Dell EqualLogic PS series is straightforward, with no complexity involved. Dell EqualLogic PS series is a good product. We did not experience any failures in the last six to seven years, and it is still running as our storage for offline data. There are snapshot capabilities in data protection available, but we did not use that feature because it consumes much space. We have only 150 terabytes of space and simply use it to create volumes without utilizing it for snapshots. We use thin provisioning in Dell EqualLogic PS series, but I did not explore that feature further.

Hyper-converged storage has improved performance and now supports high redundancy for our VMs
Nutanix Cloud Infrastructure (NCI) was transparent because we were on a regular infrastructure before. We went on NCI and were able to improve performance, but it did not really change how things worked. The performance was really better for applications and access times to the data. I regularly looked at the analytics to see what was going on in my servers and what it was saying to optimize performance. It was pretty interesting because it could analyze and give insights on how to get things working better. In the latest versions, the Prism interface has been replaced by Prism Central. This requires another machine to be deployed to manage the servers.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It has been extremely reliable and very easy to upgrade and expand."
"I am satisfied with it; it works very fine for our purpose, and its performance is enough for our needs."
"The product is very stable."
"It is a stable solution. Stability-wise, I rate the solution a ten out of ten."
"If you have one datacenter fail, the VMs will start to run inside the other data center."
"Equallogic PS series arrays are the best suited storage platform for mid to high level enterprises."
"The solution can scale."
"The solution has been extremely consistent over the years, we've had absolutely no issues with the product at all, and it's lasted a long time without causing any problems."
"With the whole rack becoming a 2U Box, we had a smaller data center footprint and power consumption, and compute and storage became one, so it became easier to manage."
"Maintenance is not required for Nutanix Cloud Infrastructure"
"The technical support was great they were very helpful."
"Scaling is very easy and no limitations are set."
"The beauty of this product is that it is very intelligent in controlling the data set and metadata."
"The solution is very stable. We haven't had any issues."
"Nutanix provides a level of scalability and flexibility that you don't get with any other solution on the market."
"Nutanix Acropolis AOS is affordable, it has good value."

Cons

"We are having some issues right now where some of the database operations are recovering and we find there are so many IOPS that EqualLogic fans cannot handle it."
"Dell EqualLogic PS series could improve the performance because in our hybrid configuration the read speed is faster than the write speed."
"The searchable online documentation is missing."
"Dell EqualLogic PS series could improve by providing fiber channel connectivity. Fiber channel connectivity is not supported, which is a requirement of advanced applications, such as SAP HANA. SAP HANA recommends fiber channel connectivity, but the Dell EqualLogic PS series is only an ISCSI data storage."
"Do not go for EQL. It will be out of production in a few years."
"It is at the end of support and no longer supported. We have to move our VMware to another storage platform, and we have decided to use Dell PowerStore. We like Dell's products, and it is a new platform with a lot of features."
"6510 and 6610 have two iSCSI connections in each controller. Why do 6110xxx members have only one, and why do the same members have the possibility of having an active iSCSI interface in the passive controller? It could make a lot of noise with a failover."
"I can't buy any more solutions provided by EqualLogic...Since I can't buy it anymore, I don't receive any updates on the solution. Also, this is the last year in which one can buy support for the solution."
"If we can have certified compatibility with other companies, such as Oracle, then it would let us know that they function correctly together."
"If you're willing to spend on hyper-convergence technologies be prepared to pay more and be locked down to a specific hardware vendor."
"Nutanix Acropolis AOS is new technology in a competitive market. Pricing is too high for a new product and requires better discounts to be able to compete with IBM, Dell EMC, and HP."
"Nutanix Cloud Infrastructure's cloud platform management software could be improved so that I can manage my load between the cloud and on-premises."
"Cloud integration, automation and orchestration need improvement."
"Pricing and varieties of options could be better."
"The processing power is OK, but for the future it needs to be better."
"It's lacking in some features but overcompensating in others."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Initial packages include all upgrades and services."
"Dell EqualLogic PS series can improve its scale-out feature. Sometimes the customer has a limited budget for storage expansion. When they want to expand their capacity, they need to buy a complete controller plus storage capacity, which sometimes is out of their budget. If Dell EqualLogic PS series support could scale up the environment in which only hard drive extension controllers should be supported, then customers can expand within a lower budget."
"There are annual maintenance costs beyond the original licensing period."
"Licensing is pretty straightforward."
"It is a fair price."
"Price-wise, the solution is cheap. I rate it a three on a scale of one to ten, where one is very cheap, and ten is very expensive."
"It seemed expensive at first, but the durability lowered the cost of ownership dramatically over time."
"I don't think I would say that the product is less expensive...The product's price is not an issue for our company, considering the relationship we have with Dell and the customer support we receive."
"When compared to the competitors, the price is reasonable."
"The setup cost, pricing, and licensing are very competitive and TCO is very low compared to three-tier solutions."
"My advice is to get the ultimate license, as it is worth it."
"This product is less expensive than some of the competing HCI solutions."
"Nutanix price is high because it bundles all the components into single deals rather than allowing you to select the features that you want/will use."
"The initial cost is affordable but the renewal fees are high."
"The software only licensing model is priced normally, but the licensing model that comes with hardware is priced very high. You can choose to pay the license yearly, or you can pay every three years, or every five years."
"Its licensing model is easy, but the bad thing is that we need to pay for the whole capacity at once. With VMware vSAN, we only have to pay for the capacity that we are using, which is not the case with Nutanix. So, we have more overhead for the licensing cost with Nutanix."
